Chapter 227
King Braedon POV
There were only a handful of us that went after Blair. If the new maid was in fact Brynn, then I didn't anticipate there being any problems in taking her down. She might be an Alpha wolf but she had struck me as being pretty weak the last time I had met her and I had no reason to believe she had gotten any stronger since then. Even if she was a manipulative and cunning b***h. My senses were on high alert and I scanned the surrounding forest with keen eyes, as we carefully made our way past my own territory onto what was technically classified as neutral territory. I should have anticipated that Brynn would take Blair out here, where my father had once managed to escape me. But this time was different, this time my mate was in danger and I was not about to let her or Brynn slip through my fingers once again. The stakes were too high and I was terrified not only for Blair but for my pups sake as well.
My paws thudded lightly on the ground. I felt a tearing pain rip through my abdomen and winced. It had come out of nowhere. I glanced around frantically, looking for something that had injured me but there was nothing. It was not my injury, I realized with a sudden flash of panic. It was Blair's and my panic began to grow, even as we steadily closed in on her location. There was only one explanation for that kind of injury or pain, and I felt my wolf become angry and concerned, his rage almost overwhelming us both.
Mate is in labor with our pups. She's vulnerable. We must get to her Braedon, before it's too late. She can't shift and she can't run in this state he thundered.
I know Lucian. We're not far from her now, but if we rush, we'll divulge our location and give ourselves away. Blair is strong and capable. She knows we wouldn't just abandon her. It's hard, but we need to be patient a little while longer.
Our mate is in pain Braedon! His voice was sharp and filled with anxiety she's all alone and being held by the woman who had kidnapped her. She might be strong and brave, but this would be enough for even the most brave of women to lose control of themselves.
Just a little longer Lucian. This is killing me inside as well. Don't you think I'm concerned about our pups and our mate? Don't you think I'm worried too? I demanded harshly, as we continued to walk I'm terrified for Blair but if I make a mistake it could result in her death and the death of our pups. Are you willing to take that risk | growled at him, willing him to see sense, in what felt like an impossible situation.
With that, my wolf fell silent. He more than anyone knew the risks of barging in and startling them both. We couldn't afford to lose Blair or the pups. Even if every pain I felt was excruciating. I could almost imagine the terror that Blair must be feeling at this moment, helpless to do anything but give birth at the hands of her captor. I could feel my rage increasing, seeing red and gritting my teeth as I fought back the overwhelming urge to lose control and run, run to my mate, and kill whoever got in my way. That would just get her and possibly myself killed. I had to be rational, and logical. I needed to be careful.
We saw the cave and stopped. We sniffed. James was behind us in his wolf form and Sierra was there as well as her father Alpha Johnathon who had been desperate to help find his daughter and who hoped to convince Brynn to let Blair go. I had been hesitant but perhaps Alpha Johnathon's presence might be enough to shock her long enough to get the advantage over her. Visit Job ni b .com to read the complete chapters for free. I could smell my mate's intoxicating scent and knew that it was coming from inside the cave. A scream, bloodcurdling and chilling came from within and I tensed, instinctively knowing it was Blair's. It was filled with pain. My tail swished with anger. I would do anything to secure her safety, even give my own life if it came to that. Blair was my priority and my pups.
I shifted back to my human form and the others did the same behind me, their bones cracking and adjusting loudly. I suspected there might not be enough room inside the cave for my large wolf form. I waved at the others to follow in a single file behind me. "Careful and be silent" I whispered urgently as they nodded, their eyes going towards the entrance of the cave, the darkness almost pitch black.
It was lucky that we had our shifter eyesight to help us navigate the darkness. A normal human being would not be able to see two feet in front of them, let alone to the back of the cave. I led the way, feeling the hard rocks beneath my feet, my hand trailing along the hardness of the walls. The way inside was steep. Blair and Brynn were further in than I had imagined. More screams erupted and I winced, feeling pain inside my chest. I breathed heavily, my hands clenching into fists. I had never felt so helpless before or weak. My lower lip was bleeding from where I had continuously bit it. I could feel everyone's eyes behind me as they looked on in sympathy. Sierra looked pissed, ready to kick Brynn's a*s. I was hoping that we could convince Brynn to release Blair without the need to kill her. I was vehemently aware that Alpha Johnathon was present and I was abhorrent to kill another family member in front of his eyes, although the man was well aware that it might come to that. If anything the man was aware of his daughter's terrible actions and understood that Brynn would not be seeing the light of day again once she was safely secured, but also wanted the chance to say a final goodbye to the daughter that he felt he had failed in some aspect, while saving the other that he had treated so cruelly throughout her childhood. He was hoping to make amends. I suspected it was not going to go as he wished.
