The Rebellious Omega

Chapter 214

King Braedon POV

Sandy, the omega, looked confused but gave a nod. The man stood and bowed his head, before graciously exiting, following Sandy politely. James let out an exhale, folding his arms across his chest and regarding me with a raised brow. "Something about that man, isn't right" James muttered "I don't know what it is, but my intuition is screaming at me to keep a close eye on him."

I tapped my fingers on the desk, mulling it over "So it's not just me then. Have a warrior have eyes on him at all times. There's something about him I don't trust" I told James who nodded looking serious "I don't believe for a second that he's only here to travel to another pack. The way he's dressed, the dirt, and his complexion, it's almost like he wanted to hide his real identity or the way he looks from being divulged. Did he seem somewhat familiar to you James?"

James paused "Now that you mention it, there was something very familiar about him, but I don't know what. His voice? His looks? The way he walks? It's driving me nuts. I also don't want the bastard anywhere near Sarah" he growled, looking pointedly at me "and I'm willing to bet you don't want him near Blair."

I shook my head. "I couldn't sense a powerful aura, like one of an Alpha, but it's like his wolf was being pushed back. Like he was keeping it subdued. Perhaps his wolf is merely that of a warrior but it gives me the creeps. What about the maid?" I asked James. "According to the housekeeper, she's ordinary and like any other servant that's asked about work here. She carefully checked her over, to ensure she didn't match any descriptions of those we were looking for and the maid was grateful to be given work in the castle. I can get her for you if you would like?" he offered.

I sighed and shook my head "It's probably coincidental they arrived at the same time. I doubt somebody like that man would even give a maid or an omega the time of day. He seems too arrogant" I said wryly.

James readily agreed. I looked at the papers on the desk awaiting my signatures and began to quickly go through them while James informed me of anything that required me to sign off such as the current work being done on the second floor, due to a bathroom's pipe having burst.

"Done" I exhaled, standing up and stretching "I'm going to go and walk the grounds for a bit. Could you check on Blair for me?" I asked him "She's supposed to be resting and I don't want her disturbed. You could also check on Sarah" I suggested, making James's eyes brighten. "No problem" he agreed.

I chuckled and headed out of the study, making my way slowly out of the pack house and onto the grounds. It was dark, the stars twinkling brightly in the sky. I inhaled the fresh air, feeling the chilly wind against my skin. It was rejuvenating.

I began to walk the grounds, checking in with my patrol. All of them were accounted for and nobody had strayed from their posts. I was pleased. I kept an ear out for rogues and an eye out for the warrior Nate and the new maid but saw neither as I walked around the pack house. It was peaceful outside and I was about to walk back in when I felt somebody's eyes on me. Someone was watching me. My eyes narrowed and I glanced around subtly, not giving away that I knew. I scanned my surroundings but saw nobody. Wherever they were they had hidden themselves well, but my instincts were well honed and I could sense them nearby. I kept my calm, continuing to walk as normal. If they were going to attack, they were going to do it before I reached the pack house I surmised. As I passed beneath some trees I heard the sound of a snarl. It was the only warning I got and I shifted automatically, my clothes tearing and ripping, as I turned to face my foe. Another black wolf stepped out from the shadows. My eyes widened in disbelief. I sniffed, but there was no scent. The intruder had masked it. It wasn't Blair's wolf, But it wasn't Brynn's either. I knew that much. I growled, planting my paws on the ground as the other wolf gave me a rakish grin, its eyes dark and narrowed on me. Its tail swished and it raised its head, its eyes challenging me.

Who was this wolf? How had it managed to slip past my patrol so easily? We studied each other. The wolf looked unafraid but it also looked familiar. My mind struggled with the image, it flashing into my mind over and over again as the wolf c****d its head, its eyes cunning. It snorted, looking amused and finally, it felt like I had put the pieces together as I stared at it in outrage, unable to believe that he had the audacity to ever step foot on these lands again. I had made it clear the last time, that his life would be forfeit if he ever came back. Yet here he stood, proudly, his eyes narrowed and fixated on me, his body tensed to attack. My anger rose. My fury grew.

He grinned, his tongue licking his lips. He was deliberately taunting me. It had been over five years since I had laid eyes on this bastard or his wolf. His wolf was large, but mine was larger. I didn't understand why he had come back and why now of all times. What was going on in his head? What did he hope to achieve with this? My roar was ferocious, making the leaves on the trees shudder and fall to the ground nearby, my own wolf defiant and growing angrier by the second. This man had caused devastation and chaos in my life. He had wrecked and ruined everything good in it. For the first time, I found myself wishing I had ended him when I had the chance, regardless if he was on neutral territory or not.

My father's eyes shone as he watched me, both our wolves beginning to circle each other. He gave me a mocking grin. I snarled. Blair was safely in the pack house, but I could sense James coming from behind me, also in wolf form. The patrol was aware of the intruder, but I told them to remain at their posts.

My main priority was Blair's and Sarah's safety. James reached us and was told to stay back, my head remaining forward, my gaze on my father, waiting for him to make his move. Five long years of wondering where he was, hoping he'd died and now he stood before me. I felt rage sweep over me.

If he thought he was going to kill me and take this pack back from me, then he had another thing coming. I would never let this bastard get anywhere near my sister or my mate. If I died, defending this pack and my mate and pups, then I was going to ensure I took this evil bastard with me if it was the last thing I did on this earth.

Another ferocious roar and a snarl from my father and then he made his move, my wolf automatically moving to defend himself as we clashed, this time dueling to the death and only one or none of us was going to survive this time.
