Chapter 211
Blair POV
Braedon looked at Sierra askance as she set up the new security system she had rigged up in the nursery. Whatever he had been expecting her to do, clearly it wasn't this. "Isn't this cool?" she asked him excitedly as his mouth dropped open in shock "I have all these cameras set up, from a pinhole camera in this toy stuffed animal here" She picked up an innocent-looking stuffed bear and showed him the tiny camera in the front of it "to the larger ones in the corner. There are absolutely no blind spots in this room whatsoever" she boasted while I tried really hard not to laugh at Braedon's expression on his face "and not only do you have access to the cameras in order to surveil, but so do I" she added wickedly, brandishing a tablet at us "I can check in whenever I want and keep a close watch on the babies." "Wonderful," Braedon said still gaping and trying to gather what little composure he had left "But how exactly does the room know when somebody that doesn't belong in here tries to enter?" he asked lamely looking confused. "That's the beauty of it," Sierra said enthusiastically waving her hands around in her excitement." I thought of that already" she added smugly.
She led us to the doors. "I still have to set them up, but there will be fingerprint pads on each of these doors that will require you to put your finger against them before you enter for the system to recognize. You will have to determine who you trust so I can enter them, but of course, I've already taken the liberty of adding mine" Sierra said calmly winking at the both of us and looking at ease.
"Of course," I said with a giggle.
I shouldn't have expected anything less from Sierra.
Braedon still looked like he'd been run over by a truck, a large one named Sierra.
"What happens if somebody tries to enter or manages to get inside and it's not one of the people the system trusts?" Braedon asked suspiciously.
Sierra's eyes began to gleam dangerously. She looked mad and rather frightening. I inhaled, while Braedon looked slightly terrified. "A silent alarm will go off, immediately alerting your cell phone and mine that somebody has entered the room. There are several microphones present. You will be able to speak to the intruder directly, or I will" she added, looking around with her hands on her hips, a deep expression of satisfaction on her face.
I began to feel pity for anybody foolish enough to consider entering this room. The poor bastards would never see what was coming for them.
Braedon eyed her suspiciously "And that's all? That's everything you're setting up?" he demanded with a side glance.
He continued to scan the room as though he didn't believe her, expecting a trap door or some sort of booby trap to appear at any second.
Sierra blinked her eyes at him feigning innocence "Of course. I had to take the safety of the children into account as well you dufus. They aren't old enough to be able to hold a weapon but as they grow older, the security system will get more complex and I will train them to safely take out the intruder themselves" she said casually.
Naturally. Sierra was taking into consideration the future of the children as well as the present. I had to hand it to her. She was thinking of everything. She was taking her duties of being responsible for security very seriously.
Braedon looked as though he wished he hadn't asked the question. I was fighting back my laughter. To be honest it could have been much worse. I was quite certain it could have been more bloodthirsty and complex. I'd had visions of lasers tearing intruders to shreds and much more. In Sierra's case, this was quite tame in comparison. I found myself being thankful that she had held back.
"It's very well done Sierra, thank you for your hard work" I complimented her, causing her to beam proudly.
She had done an excellent job. I didn't think our babies could be any safer than they were in Sierra's hands.
She eyed me "We should think about doing your room as well," she said thoughtfully "seeing as you and Braedon could also be in danger."
Braedon spluttered "Oh hell no, you aren't putting microphones in our room or cameras of any kind. Just how sensitive are those microphones?" he asked suddenly, a frown on his face as a sudden realization dawned..
Sierra pretended not to hear him, calmly examining her nails an oblivious expression on her face.
"I'm certain the microphones can be turned off when required and turned back on" I assured him, glancing at Sierra suspiciously "Right Sierra?" I asked pointedly.
"Oh yeah, of course," she said looking at me innocently.
I glanced around the room, frowning. Something looked odd, almost out of place. Braedon was frowning as well. "Something is different about this room" I muttered, tapping my chin.
Sierra's face brightened "I wondered how long that would take you," she said grinning with glee.
She took me over to the bookcase and pulled a book out. It slid to the side, revealing a door into the adjoining room. "I rigged it up. Another way to leave and I was going to take the room next door. It works both ways. I can use it to enter the room. The intruder will never know it's a secret door" she said excitedly. "You're going to sleep next door to the nursery?" I said astonished.
Braedon looked like this was news to him as well. Sierra had not cleared this with him. I tried to stifle my laughter. Braedon looked as though he had been struck dumb. The thought of being next door to Sierra was causing him to shudder and a horrified expression was slowly covering his face.
"Yeah, and Josie has the room next door to mine. You're going to need help with the twins, especially when you're tired and overwhelmed" Sierra said casually "So of course we're going to sleep up here to lend you a hand. That's what friends are for" she exclaimed, looking at me like I was being silly.
