Chapter 137
Blair POV
I came out of the bathroom, holding the test in my hand, while Sierra casually looked at her watch, my hands shaking. "How long did it say?" she asked calmly. "Three minutes" I answered trembling violently.
Three minutes seemed like a lifetime as I sat on my bed, Josie on one side of me, Sierra crouching on the other side, peering down at the test with wide eyes. I swallowed hard, feeling as though I was on the brink of tears. Sierra looked like she was at peace while Josie was frowning, looking deep in concentration. The ticking on Sierra's watch was driving me insane, the only noise in an otherwise silent room.
My eyes were closed. I breathed shallowly, forcing myself to concentrate on anything but the test, which proved to be almost impossible. Sierra coughed loudly, forcing me to glance at her. "Times up," she said blithely, snatching the test from my hand as my eyes shot open and I stared at her in indignation "Stop being such a wuss and look at it" she advised laughing.
I stared at the test. Two pink lines were on it. Two. Holy hell. I gulped. Sierra smirked. "You're pregnant, honey, just like I suspected, but we can go to the hospital and get a blood test if you really need extra confirmation," she teased.
I remained mute. Josie glared at Sierra "Let her come to terms with it first Sierra" she said shaking her head and looking at the other woman with anger "She's just found out that her whole life is about to change!" she practically shouted "Jesus."Enjoying the book? I put my hands up before it turned into an all-out girl's fight "Hey, it's okay, Sierra didn't mean anything by it" I said soothingly to Josie, trying to calm her down. "What do I do now?" I asked blankly dumbfounded and heard my wolf snort in my head, sounding highly amused.
Seriously, what do you think you do? You tell your mate nitwit. Aren't you happy that we're having a pup? She sounded incensed.
Great, now I'd pissed off my wolf. I groaned. I didn't mean it that way, it's just that I'm worried about Braedon's reaction. We have been using protection after all, except for that one time I amended quickly.
I knew shifters got pregnant quicker than humans but still, I wasn't prepared to already be dealing with morning sickness. Unless, did one of the condoms maybe break?
I sighed. Braedon will be so excited when we tell him Dusk said blithely trust me, every Alpha wants an heir, and an Alpha King especially desires one. You will be a fantastic mother to our pup. Just wait and see she said excitedly.
I didn't answer. I didn't exactly have happy memories of a mother to fall back on. Sierra tapped me on the shoulder. "Earth to Blair," she said with laughter in her voice "Are you there?" she asked and I glanced at her sheepishly. "Sorry, was just thinking," I said blankly, and panicking if I was being honest.
"Well, I happen to know that Braedon is currently in his study. Why don't you go and tell him that you're ahem, knocked up and have a bun in the oven" she exclaimed excitedly.
I threw a pillow at her, wishing I had something harder in reach. She hit me with it laughing. Josie interrupted "Maybe you should keep it to yourself. After all the first trimester is the most dangerous" she advised and Sierra stared at her looking pissed. "What kind of crap is that? Are you trying to frighten her Josie?" she asked annoyed.
"No" she mumbled and hung her head "Sorry Blair, I just wanted you to be aware of the facts," she said forlornly, glancing at me apologetically.
"It's okay but I think this time Sierra is right. I'm going to tell him, but I want to tell him in a fun way" I said biting my lip. "I don't want to just barge in and announce it."
I'd probably give the poor guy a heart attack if I did it that way.
Sierra chuckled "That's much better. See, now you're thinking like the Blair I love and know."
I tapped my chin "But what exactly am I going to do? I guess I could wrap the pregnancy test" I said out loud, mulling it
over.
Sierra snorted "That's too lame," she said disapprovingly "I say you take the bull by the horns and thoroughly make that man so damn distracted that when you tell him, he'll be in such a good mood, it won't matter what you say" she advised.
Her eyes were sparkling and there was a smile on her face that I didn't quite trust if I was honest with myself. I knew that look all too well and it always spelled out trouble. Josie looked uncomfortable. "I'm not feeling well" she mumbled, her head bowed down low. "Do you need something, maybe some water?" I offered but she shook her head and stood up abruptly.
"I just need to go lie down. I'm happy for you Blair" she said with a watery smile "Sorry about this" she added quietly and then headed out the door as I stared after her, wondering if I had upset her in some way.
"I wonder what the hell that's all about" Sierra quipped, as I looked at her helplessly before she gave a shrug, dismissing Josie and her strange acting from our minds.
"So dollcakes" she drawled "about this so-called wrapping idea," she said mischievously.
I eyed her suspiciously. She coughed and then straightened up, smiling widely at me. I wasn't sure I was going to like her idea. She looked like a cat that had gotten the cream. She was practically bouncing up and down on the bed, clapping her hands together. "Why do I have the feeling that your mind has gone in a different direction to mine?" I asked her doubtfully.
She looked like the devil that had come for me.
She giggled "Oh because I have the best idea ever. You're going to thank me for this" she advised.
Thank her or curse her, I wondered absent-mindedly. She stood up and headed to my closet, opening the doors and beginning to rifle through the hangers while I watched, curious as to what she might be looking for. She had a look of determination on her face which only heightened my fear as she pushed clothes to the side at a rapid pace.
