Chapter 15
Our visit to the king the next day was necessary to get the warriors we needed. After Devas told him his plan, the king was very worried, but he knew he didn't want to forbid us to save my amicus. He was just worried. King Elior agreed, but on condition that only volunteers could come. He didn't want to force anyone to come. And I couldn't blame him...because the place where my amicus was being held was obviously terrible.
While Devas and Avery were talking to the king, Bael waited outside the mansion, obviously not wanting to run into Ava. But unlike him, I really wanted to see Ava. When I got to her room she was lying on the bed staring out the window. Her eyes were red from crying and her beautiful face was pale. Noticing me she turned to me as I sat on her bed and I took her in My arms. It didn't take words or big talk, the only thing I wanted to show her is that I'm here for her. And she hugged me and cried while holding me tighter. She knew I was there and that was important to me. She is not alone in her pain we were all there for her.
"If you're ready, you can always talk to me about it." I said softly to her while stroking her hair.
Ava just nodded and when Avery came I knew she would be better. He was her brother and knew her better than any of us. After spending a few hours with her, Avery said we must see my brother. The warriors he trained were the best in Antaris, and we must look for volunteers there.
"Maybe you can come with me?" Avery asked his sister.
But she just shook her head and softly replied "I have something to do...after that I'll come to you."
This Ava we had to leave in bed wasn't the young woman I had met. She was broken and sad, her eyes didn't shine anymore and I missed her happy nature. But she assured us that everything will be fine and we should go. So we went to my brother on the Island Bellatorum where we were already expected. Aidan and Inna greeted us warmly when we arrived and I was happy to see them both again. Devas and Bael went to the training camp to see the fighters the trained. And Avery and I greeted our friends who were waiting for us.
While Avery was talking to Aidan about our plan, I took the time to talk to Jade about Ava.
"I don't know what reason Bael could have for not wanting Ava. Soulmates can't be without each other that's why it's so painful for Ava. But Bael doesn't seem affected by it," I said to Jade.
"Oh you are wrong my dear Iris. He is in agony and the sorrow in his heart is painful, but he masks it for all. He is a trickster...but I see more than he can hide." Jade said while watching Bael.
"Can you find out the reason? Maybe we can help them?" I asked Jade.
As she focused on his thoughts, Bael turned to us and stared at Jade.
"You know, you shouldn't do that. There's nothing here that should be important to you!" Bael's voice said in my head.
And obviously in Jade's head too because she looked at me wide-eyed.
"Son of a .."Jade was angry and looked at him poisonously.
Bael turned back to the training the warriors were giving, uninterested in our attempts to help him.
" How did he do that?" I asked Jade.
"Well he's a trickster my dear..But a better question is why can't I read your mind anymore?" Jade asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Well, I learned it from Devas." I replied proudly to which she just rolled her eyes and laughed.
"So no more embarrassing thoughts?" she asked laughing.
We spent a few more hours planning and discussing our rescue mission. After that, Aidan called all the warriors together and explained where we want to go and what the mission is.
"I will not force any of you to go. Only those who want to come voluntarily should step forward now." said Aidan to the warriors.
Noah, Elian, and Alvar were the first to step in front, and behind them were Keijou, Mana, and Inna.
Aidan nodded and stood next to his Inna while Jade stood next to Noah. Five more warriors joined them and I looked at Devas who was discussing something with Bael. He looked over at me and nodded his head as a sign of his satisfaction with the group that was going to serve with us.
We had to practice together to be prepared and after the first day of training we sat together in the evening. I was taught how to transfer my power to weapons. Devas did it with his shield and Aidan with a sword, Avery used bows and arrows. Each had a weapon that was enhanced by their power. I tried all weapons but found the sword the easiest to use. We all sat around the campfire and ate. The campfire kept us warm and the sound of the ocean was soothing as we all rested. Everyone was talking and laughing as if they couldn't possibly get hurt or even killed in a few days.
"Are you alright, my love?" asked Avery worried.
"I'm fine love, I'm just a little worried." I replied as he kissed my forehead.
"There's nothing to worry about. We have Bael he's going to take us in there unnoticed. Right?" asked Avery Bael.
But Bael didn't even hear the question. His eyes were focused into the darkness, he was observing something none of us could see. When the others noticed that something was coming in our direction, they stood up and took up a fighting position.
"Put down your weapons! Now!" I heard Bael call out.
His voice was deep and the demonic side of him seemed intense.
And through the darkness, Ava came our way.
"I'm not interested in an elf!" Devas said in Bael's voice to tease him.
Bael glared at him and left the group towards the House to go to his room.
"Yeah, run away, that'll help." Jade called after him.
"I hope I'm not disturbing you." Ava asked with a small smile.
"Nonsense we're glad you're here to support us." Avery said as he hugged his sister.
"I'm not here to support you. I'm coming with you." answered Ava.
And before anyone could say no, Ava sat in the circle next to Devas and started talking to him about the mission.
"Do you think that's a good idea?" Avery asked me.
I didn't know...I didn't even know if it was a good idea for anyone to enter Hell's Island. But when I saw Ava laughing with Devas I knew she needed it. So I assured Avery that it was the best thing for her to do. To be with us.
We spent the next few days focused on training. I controlled my power and I was very good with the weapon. I was proud and so was Avery. He showed me every day by cheering me on and showering me with affection after every fight. Bael was training at the other end of the world, far from Ava. But his eyes searched her countless times throughout the day. Every hug she shared with a warrior after battle he watched with furrowed eyebrows.
"Well? How's training going?" Devas asked while following Bael's gaze.
" GOOD!" replied Bael, continuing his sword blows at one of the combatants.
"I don't think Ava has hugged that boy yet. So be gentle." said Devas with a mocking laugh.
I had to stop myself from laughing after Bael looked our way. Devas raised his hands as if in surrender and continued the training with me.
Ava ignored Bael and he seemed to find this even harder than her absence. He watched her as she practiced in her tracksuit. His eyes were fixed on her and he couldn't hide it.
"Ava looks hot!" Devas said with a smirk.
"You shouldn't challenge him," Avery said in a singsong tone.
Devas laughed out loud and looked at Bael who was glaring at him. I looked at Ava who was watching all of this and her smirk just let me know this was all her plan. Slay girl!
We were ready for our rescue mission. The king visited us the night before we left to wish us luck and gave us all new weapons forged by elves. He hugged his children and showed us all that he is very proud of us and ready if anything goes wrong. Everyone was in their rooms getting ready for tomorrow. And so were Avery and me too. I was standing in the bathroom in front of the mirror telling myself courage...because I wanted to finish something with Avery before we left.
