Chapter 43
Getting Jaxson to the suite took a while, but was faster compared to if Adam hadn’t helped. They got him up to the master bedroom that they had spent a mere half a night in together. “My Prince, can I stay a moment?” Adam asked politely.
“Of course. I fear a guard will have to be present at all times, anyway.”
“Very true, my Prince.”
“What was that about Laura?” Jaxson queried, settling into the plush bed.
“Prefer to relay it to you when I do Jess. I can’t be bothered to repeat myself.”
Jaxson sniggered quietly.
“Sorry… I didn’t mean for it to come-”
“Don’t worry. Adam, get me some water, yeah?”
“Course.” Adam looked concerned a moment before disappearing through the door.
Chris shuffled until he were next to his mate. “I don’t like seeing you like this. Do you think marking would help?”
Jaxson slumped until his head rested on Chris’ shoulder. “I don’t know… but…” He rubbed a finger over his canine over his flesh. “I can’t.”
“What do you mean you-?!” Chris began in alarm before recognition slumped him back into the pillows. “Oh… yeah.” The notion was uncomfortable that Jaxson didn’t have his wolf in any capacity. Chris’ wolf had come back almost thirty-six hours before. It hadn’t been a long process at all.
Having a Royal wolf had its perks.
“Would it help If I mark you?… I mean, I’ll be able to heal your wounds.”
“I don’t have any wounds. While yes, I want your mark… I want to do it together.”
Chris deflated a little against him, resting his head on the other male’s. He understood, of course he did. He just worried they were waiting too long, they hadn’t and they both got kidnapped, preventing it… now? They were being stalled by wolfsbane.
He didn’t like it. He wanted to make it official.
“We will. I promise. I don’t want to feel like this while we do. We’re making a commitment, a promise.” Jaxson’s arm slid over Chris’ stomach.
“I know you’re right. I feel impatient.”
“That’s fine. Soon. Promise you.”
Chris waited for Adam to come back and take his leave when Jaxson fell asleep, before Chris stripped to his underwear, feeling the need for skin. Jaxson’s skin. He slipped under the duvet, tangling his legs with Jaxson as he slept. He linked Jesse, explaining he couldn’t leave Jaxson and relaid what happened with Laura.
Once the link was finished, he nuzzled into Jaxson happily, not caring he was fast asleep. “Chris? Are you OK?” Klara’s link came through.
“I’m fine. Sorry I’ve not been to see you.”
“It’s not always up to you. You’ve been busy. I heard Jaxson was found?” Klara asked kindly. She sounded bright, not as tired and sickly as she had been. Maybe all the herbal teas were doing her good.
“Yeah, he’s sleeping.” Chris came out of the link enough to look at him, he’d rolled onto his side, facing the door. His quiet snores reverberated around the room.
Klara’s link brought him back into his head. “Do you need anything? I do need to see your suite.”
Usually, he would accept. State, of course she could visit. The compliance was on the tip of his tongue “No. We’re fine. I’ll come see you when Jaxson’s better.”
“No problem. Just link if you need anything. Always here.”
“Thanks. I won’t need anything.” If Jaxson needed anything, Chris would get it. He realised he probably sounded rude though. “Love you.”
“Love you too. I am here for you.”
“I know.”
Chris slid out of bed, Jaxson hadn’t roused which was unsurprising. He padded downstairs, going into the kitchen he found it fully stocked. Jaxson would probably need something to eat once he woke, keep his metabolism going to burn the wolfsbane. He shoved an array of cured meat, cheese, fruit and bread on a platter, jumping when he heard a thud above him. Grabbing the crockery, he raced upstairs to find Jaxson grasping the doorframe, his face pale, fearful.
“Jaxson?” Chris queried carefully, not wanting to spook him, but also wanting to alert him he was there.
“You weren’t there… you… I thought…” he panted in hysteria.
Chris set the plate on the decorative table in the hall before grasping Jaxson around the waist. “I’m here. I didn’t go anywhere.”
“I thought they took you…” Jaxson slumped, his panic receding as he gripped him tightly around the waist, pressing his face firmly into Chris’ neck.
“Shh. I’m sorry. I’m fine. We’re safe,” Chris soothed. “You need to go back to bed. I brought you food.” He helped Jaxson back into the room, settling him in bed. “I’ll just get the platter, you can see me,” he soothed, feeling the thump of anxiety in his chest as he stepped away.
Settling back into bed with the selection of food, he offered it to Jaxson. “I’m not hungry.”
“No… but you need to burn the wolfsbane, please?”
Sighing, he complied, taking a chunk of cheese from the plate. “Sorry… I didn’t mean to panic,” he whispered before cramming the food into his mouth.
“I understand. Don’t apologise.”
Jaxson shifted the plate from Chris’ lap, his strength seeming to be returning. Setting it on the bedside table, he gripped Chris and manhandled him to lay down. He could only chuckle, allowing the large male to do as he wished. He soon found Jaxson splayed over him, an arm, leg and half his chest pinning him to the wool mattress. Jaxson’s nose went back to Chris’ neck, nuzzling and inhaling deeply. “Have to go through me to get you,” he muttered into his skin.
“No one is coming, there are two guards stationed at the door. Two more further down the corridor.”
“Gotta go through me,” he rumbled sleepily.
