Chapter 18
Stephan ushered him through a door, announcing, “He’s with me.” When a burly male tried to stop them. “He wanted ID, but you don’t need it,” Stephan told him arrogantly.
All these words he had no idea what they meant.
They walked up a set of stairs, music was getting louder and louder, he recognised the music but when they were halfway up the steps, it was already the loudest he’d ever heard. Once they reached a large dark room with multicoloured lighting dotted around the room, it was deafening. Chris had to refrain from putting his hands over his ears.
He saw lots of, well, obviously humans. Lots of males, some females and some very tall females… taller than werewolf females who he believed were taller than human females. (Except for Klara, she was just tiny).
Stephan guided him to a bar, “What you having? On me.”
Chris thought to all the human films he’d watched, he wasn’t one hundred percent their drinks were the same. “Beer?”
“Two beers!”
The drinks arrived quickly and he gulped half the beer down in one, looking around the room. He wanted to call it a bar, but he wasn’t sure if that was accurate, it didn’t look like one he’d seen in any film before.
Two males were kissing in a corner, other groups were chatting over the loud music. “OH! Haven’t seen you here before!” a female voice announced, making Chris turn, a female with long blonde hair leant on the bar within an inch of him.
A hand landed on his upper thigh, “He’s with me, Sandy.”
Chris looked down at Stephan’s hand and slid it off, he wasn’t comfortable with the human touching him.
“Why don’t you come meet everyone… what was your name again?” Sandy asked.
“Oh, Chris,” he shouted over the music.
“OK, Chris, no need to shout.”
His eyebrows twitched in a frown, he thought human’s hearing wasn’t very good?
“Sorry,” he replied at a more normal volume.
“No problem, honey, anyway, we’re just over there.” Sandy pointed to a large group in the corner, talking loudly.
He sunk his teeth into his bottom lip, Stephan had been kind enough to help him earlier, and as he glanced to the blonde he didn’t look too happy with the idea of Chris moving from his spot.
“Thank you, Sandy, I think I am well here.”
“Suit yourself.” Sandy shrugged and sauntered back over to the group she’d gestured at earlier.
“So.” His hand was back on Chris’ leg, “What music do you like?”
“Erm… this kind?” He gestured to the air, referring to the music being played. He didn’t have an ear for human music like his sister.
“Ah, you came on the right night then, every Thursday is Eighties night.”
“Seems that I did. What do you like?”
“Just about everything. I’m very eclectic.”
“Very good.”
“You’re an odd one.”
Chris blushed in embarrassment, “Sorry.”
“No! It’s not a bad thing. I like it. You’re innocent.”
“Thank you?”
Drinks kept appearing, as soon as he’d finished one, another would be in his hand, this wasn’t too unusual, for him anyway. The rate of his consumption didn’t really match Stephan’s, “You may need to slow down there,” Stephan announced.
“Why?” The beer was having no effect on him, although this one had a slightly odd bitter taste to it, but he thought maybe the beer was different to what he had been drinking. It made him slow down though, not enjoying this new flavour.
“Chris! Oh my god, I haven’t seen you in forever!” a voice that sounded like a man putting on a female voice sounded to his right before he was encapsulated in a big hug. “He put something in your drink, put it down,” the voice spoke quietly in his ear.
Put what in his drink?
He put the drink down, however. Hearing the warning in the voice. He was released so he could see someone who certainly looked like a male, in female’s clothing…. Like Mrs Doubtfire, except for this individual seemed to express a love of blue, from the topaz eyeshadow to the matching sequined dress. “I didn’t even recognise you until Sandy said your name! Come on, you have to meet everyone!” Chris was tugged from his seat, he was so bewildered he let it happen, if he wanted to stop it he could have.
“I’m Shae, by the way. How much of that drink did you have?” Shae asked as they pulled Chris into their side.
“Not much.” He’d only had a few sips.
“Oh well, doll, we’ll look after you, just sit, sit.” He was pushed in between two men on a pink leather sofa. “Start feeling dizzy or woozy, you tell us,” Shae announced, sitting opposite. “This is Oscar and Archie.” They each raised their hand at their name, Oscar having dark sandy coloured hair, while Archie’s was longer than Chris’ and Silver.
He was introduced to all those around, humans definitely came with more variety than wolves such as strange hair colours. He noticed he was by far the largest individual sat around. While his physique was on the small side for a wolf, he was by far one of the broadest. Wade would have taken up the full sofa if he were there… even Jaxson would have taken up most-
He stopped himself, he wasn’t thinking about him. He’d never see him ever again.
“So, Chris, where you from?” one of the small males, Tristen, asked.
“Oh, far from here, you wouldn’t have heard of it.”
“You don’t sound that foreign.”
“Sandy, you can’t say that!” the male next to her admonished, squeezing her knee.
“Well, he doesn’t!”
“You from America? Amish? Swear I can hear a twang.”
“Err, yeah.” America was where most of the films were from, that was reasonable. he didn’t know what Amish meant though. “Where’s Stephan?”
“Oh don’t worry about him! He spiked your drink, arsehole.”
“Spiked?”
“Yeah, I’d guess roofies, he’s such a sleaze. You don’t want nothing to do with him!” Oscar announced.
He guessed roofies was bad.
