The Point of Fate

Chapter Chapter Twenty

Sick...that’s what I felt right now. Sick to my stomach. I had just killed my brother and my best friend only a few hours ago. I was now sitting at a table in the middle of a five star resturaunt waiting for Jared to get back. He had gotten a phone call just a few minutes ago and had excused himself from the table. I stared down at the menu unable to choose anything. My stomach churned at the thought of anything being digested. I felt claustrophobic. I could hardly breathe. Images of them flashed through my mind causing my head to hurt. I couldn’t do this. I tried to talk to Naula, but he had blocked her. I glanced up and saw Jared making his way back. I sat back straight and smiled at him. He smiled.

“So what are you going to have?” He asked.

“I...I’m not really not hungry.” I said and looked down at the table.

I felt him tense and I knew he was on edge. “Pick something small then.” He said.

“Okay, yeah, that sounds like a good idea.” I said looking back up at him.

He smiled and nodded. I took a sip of water and looked around. I needed to think. How was I going to stop him from killing Nate? I...I could kill him. But then I would die as well. Maybe not though. I had an idea. I just needed to get a wooden steak. I heard my name, but it didn’t register. but then it was louder.

“Louie.”

I looked up and saw Jared with a stern look on his face and then saw the petite blond waitress staring at me.

“What would you like miss?” She asked.

“I’ll have the lemon chicken, thank you and no sides please.”

“Okay, your food should be ready shortly.”

“Thank you.” Jared said and she walked away. “What’s troubling you?”

“Nothing. I’m going to go to the ladies room, I’ll be back.” I said and stood up.

I walked away quickly and let out a sigh of relief when I made it away. There should be a steak under my bed...but I needed to tell Nate what was going on. I snuck around and stopped a waiter.

“Excuse me, do you have a phone I can use?”

He showed me the land line and I called Nate. It rung twice before he picked up.

“Hello?” he asked

“Nate. It’s me, Louie.” I said. “Listen, I don’t have long. I need you to do me a favor.”

After the call, I hurried back over to the table. Our food was already there and Jared was waiting.

“Sorry, there was a line.”

He looked as though he didn’t believe but shook it off. We ate our dinner and then left the restaurant. He took me back to the house, which smelled of old blood and dead bodies. I knew they were still in the living room but I ignored it. I needed to get a stake. I started to walk up the stairs when he grabbed my arm.

“Where are you going?” He asked.

“I just wanted to change into something more comfortable...is that okay?” I asked quietly.

“Yes.” He said letting go of my arm.

I felt his eyes on me as I walked up the stairs. I went into the room and changed quickly into a t-shirt and jeans. I looked around in the closet and in the drawers and found nothing, but then I found a white steak under the bed. It was petrified wood with silver woven throughout it. I could feel its energy through my fingers and I stared at it. I knew I couldn’t kill him yet, I had to wait until the war began, which knowing Jared he was probably pushing it along. I put the steak back and went downstairs. He was slowly pacing back and forth while talking on the phone. I stopped and sat halfway down the stairs and watched him. He smiled and hung up the phone.

“Well darlin, it seems the war between wolves and vampires is going to happen a lot sooner than planned.” He said walking up to me.

“Why?” I asked.

“It seems as though a few wolves were slaughtered by a vampire near the lake and the bodies were found sometime today. The remaining Alphas of the area have declared war and we are meeting in the clearing on Hollow Mountain. And you my dear, are our secret weapon.” He said stroking my hair. “Those pathetic mutts will never see it coming.”

I smiled. “Good.”

“That’s my girl.” He said and kissed me.

I felt disgusted. I wanted to throw up. He walked passed me and up the rest of the stairs.

“I’ll be right back.” He said and went into the room.

I stared at the blood soaked floor and forced my eyes to not wander up to see who the blood belonged to. I shut off my emotions that would give me away and waited for Jared. He came back down the stairs and sat next to me.

“So when does the battle begin?” I asked looking at him.

“Tomorrow.” He said smirking. “And guess what you are going to do?”

“What?” I asked smirking.

“You are going to kill Nate.” He said.

“With pleasure.” I said smiling.

“Good.” He said and kissed me. “Because you are mine and mine alone.”
