The Pigeon Pair Saves The Marriage by Janice Gold

Chapter 41

Chapter 41

Although Edith was competitive, she knew her limits.

For now, Bald Ross couldn’t be wholly alienated, as the project needed his team.

Edith similed. “Forget about being at my beck and call, but let Reed Appraisal take care of all the documentation for the artifacts unearthed in this project.”

It seemed she was giving Bald Ross a way out, but this job was no different from slaving.

The variety of artifacts, the complexity of documentation, the mental strain, and the lack of salary made it a daunting task.

Bald Ross was reluctant but dared not refuse.

If he disagreed, he would completely offend the Peterson Group.

Bald Ross conceded in frustration, “Alright, it’s settled then. Mr. Peterson can be the witness.”

He might have to spend the next half year here, with losses of at least one million dollars.

It would be better to have him be at Edith’s beck and call!

Gideon saw that the matter was resolved and left first.

“Hey…” Edith wanted to call him back, but he walked away too quickly.

“Such big steps,” she muttered.

Charlie approached with admiration, saying, “Edith, you’re amazing!”

His words interrupted Edith’s thoughts.

Edith waved her hand and said casually, “It was nothing. Let’s say I’m just the best in

town.”

This statement sounded rather infuriating, but it didn’t seem so annoying coming from

her.

Edith instructed Charlie to put the clay statue away for safekeeping.

Back in her office, she suddenly received two messages on her phone.

One was a notification of her monthly salary being deposited, and the other was a deposit notification.

Chapter 41

Edith’s eyes widened as she stared at her phone and counted again. “Wait… Six million?”

She exclaimed in shock.

How did her account suddenly have an additional six million dollars?

Edith thought someone had mistakenly made a transfer, but then she saw the account it. came from.

It was Gideon!

Why would Gideon give her the money? Was it for restoring the clay statue?

That didn’t make sense… That was her job.

Or was it compensation for making her angry yesterday?

Edith shook her head. The possibility of that was almost zero.

She had to find out!

Edith tried calling, but no one answered. She then called Ray, who didn’t pick up the phone either but sent a message two minutes later.

[Mr. Peterson is in a meeting and can’t take calls. He delayed the meeting by three. hours just to support you.]

There was a need to build a museum for this batch of artifacts, so Gideon had been incredibly busy lately, with countless meetings.

Edith was lost in thought again, realizing that Gideon had come to the lab today after pushing aside his work just to support her.

She muttered in frustration, “What on earth is he trying to do… He deliberately angered me yesterday, yet today he stood up for me. His change in attitude is too sudden!”

Edith’s question remained unanswered, and she couldn’t focus on her work throughout. the morning.

After the lunch break, Victor asked Charlie to deliver this week’s work company since Gideon had left too quickly in the morning to do so.

Edith stood up reflexively and said, “I’ll go!”

Both of them looked at her in unison, filled with confusion.

They wondered why Edith, who usually couldn’t bear to be with Gideon, was now so proactive.

Swallowing nervously, Edith tried to explain, “I… I was about to leave, so it’s on the way!”

“Okay,” Victor said without further questions, handing the document to her

This wasn’t Edith’s first visit to the Peterson Group’s headquarters. The receptionist. recognized her and let her through without delay.

“Mrs… Ms. Jones, what brings you here?” Remembering the call in the morning, Ray added, “Are you here to see Mr. Peterson? He’s in a meeting. You may have to wait at while.

Holding the document, Edith cleared her throat and said, “I’m here to deliver a work report.”

“Oh! Thank you for coming all this way. Just give it to me,” Ray said, reaching out to take the document.

Edith, hiding the document behind her back and avoiding his gaze, made up an excuse.

There’s an issue with this week’s work. I need to discuss it with Mr. Peterson.”

Ray quickly caught on to her intent and couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Wanting to see Gideon wasn’t something to be embarrassed about. Why come up with these excuses?

‘You guys are so shy!‘ he thought.

Ray led her to the office and made some coffee.

“Please wait a moment. I have some other work to attend to,” Ray said before leaving.

Worried that she might get bored, Ray brought some magazines before leaving.

Edith randomly picked a magazine and started flipping through it.

Just as she was about to switch to another one, the door was pulled open from the outside, bringing in a gust of cold air.

Edith stood up.

Gideon had just been in a meeting. ‘Why is he so furious?’ Edith thought. His face was dark with anger, and he exuded a palpable chillness that kept others at bay.

Gideon carelessly threw some documents on the desk, loosened his dark tie, and finally turned his gaze toward the sofa.

Having spent two hours scolding people, he was in no mood to speak now.

Chapter 41

Edith took the initiative, placing the report on the desk. “I came to deliver the work report and to discuss a few issues with you.”

Relying on her talent to improvise, she asked several seemingly reasonable questions.

Gideon drank some water to soothe his throat and responded to each question.

After the question–and–answer session, Edith remained standing, not leaving just yet.

Gideon looked at her again. “Is there something else?”

There is something.” Edith took a deep breath, opened her phone, showed him the transaction details, and asked, “Why did you transfer money to me?”

Gideon took another sip of water.

Did she come all the way here for such a trivial matter?

He had thought Edith was in some kind of trouble again.

Leaning back in his chair, Gideon spoke indifferently. “Someone opened a betting pool on whether you or Ross would win the bet. Your odds are 1 to 20.”

Eighty percent of the people betted on Bald Ross, and only the smarter ones favored Edith. They bet small, and it was only for fun.

Everyone seemed to think that Edith was bound to lose this bet.

They didn’t doubt her skills, but they felt that clay statue was too difficult to be restored and nobody wanted to risk their money.

“Why are my odds so high?” Edith asked, annoyed.

She was, after all, a renowned restorer abroad. How could her reputation have fallen so low upon returning to the country?

Gideon looked at her, puzzled. “Why are you so concerned about that?”

“So, you bet on Bald Ross? No, that’s not right either. Betting on him would be a loss…” Edith mumbled to herself, unable to comprehend.

She couldn’t see the answer even when it was right in front of her.

Because Gideon had doubted her abilities last time, showing no trust in her, Edith just couldn’t relate it to herself.

With a facepalm, Gideon had to be more explicit. “I bet 200 thousand dollars on you. That money I transferred to you was the winning amount.”

Hearing this figure, Edith was speechless with astonishment.

“My goodness, 200 thousand dollars? You really don’t care about money!” she exclaimed.

Edith hadn’t expected Gideon to have such a strong gambler’s spirit, casually betting 200 thousand dollars.

After thinking it over, she still felt something was off. “But considering the odds, the amount shouldn’t be six million dollars, right?”

And why would Gideon give her the money he won?

It was just too strange.

Seeing her counting on her fingers, looking dumb, Gideon suddenly let out a low chuckle.
