Chapter 12
Time went by, and I wondered what Denise was doing. I realized that trying to explain that a ghost told her that her sister was kidnapped would be hard, if not next to impossible. How else would she tell them she knew where I was? That was probably the reason she had come alone, anyone else would think she had lost her mind once she told them how she found out where I was. Olivia’s uncle walked past me and gave me a dirty look.
“I don’t know who that girl was, but she ain’t coming back. Not after she saw me break that gun like that. You better not get any ideas about getting free of here. As you can see I am much stronger than you.”
I gulped, but was glad he didn’t decide to do something about the fact someone saw me. They could call the police, but I guessed he didn’t think of that. He might be strong, but it seemed like he wasn’t the smartest person around.
Outside I heard the whirring of police sirens. Yes! Denise had contacted them, and soon I would be out of there. I was so relieved, but it looked like things weren’t over quite yet. The man put a knife under my chin, grunting as he looked out the window seeing them come up to his door and burst in.
“They might get me for killing you, but at least they won’t know everything I did. Hopefully this time you will stay dead!”
I stared at the knife as the police held a gun towards his head. I was so afraid I was going to be killed, I let out a panicked scream which was muffled by the gag I had in the mouth. I prayed that the police wouldn’t let him hurt me. I wished Olivia would appear so he would see that I was not her, but she wasn’t anywhere to be seen. She could save me, where was she? What a time for her to go missing I thought listening as the police man spoke.
“Drop the weapon!”
The man spat, glaring at the police while the knife started to dig into my skin. It really hurt! I hoped they would hurry up and do something before he slit my throat.
“I don’t care what you do; I am going to kill her!”
The police man let out a shot, straight in a vital spot and he slumped over and the knife grazed over me tearing into my skin. I saw the blood trickle down, and closed my eyes not wanting to see that. The policeman came over to me and started to undo my bonds, and remove my gag. I stretched out, if it wasn’t for Olivia help wouldn’t of come so soon, yet if it wasn’t for Olivia not coming around my life wouldn’t of been threatened. But I couldn’t be too mad at her; she must have had a good reason not to appear.
“Thank you…” I paused looking at the man. “Is he alright? He should be punished for what he has done, but I don’t know if he should be killed.”
A groan from the fallen heap of a man said that he was still alive, just badly hurt. I wondered what Olivia had seen that made him willing to kill me. I touched my wounds and winced slightly, shivering at what could have happened.
“No problem miss, you might want to stop at the hospital to get your wounds treated though.”
Was the wound bad enough she needed to go to the hospital, or would just a bandage do? She better go there since the policeman suggested it, he might have noticed that she needed some stitches. She headed in that direction and sat in the waiting room of her doctor’s office going over to the receptionist to tell her that she was there. After that was done, she sat down with a magazine waiting to be called on.
When the doctor saw her, he looked over the wound and clucked his tongue,
“Looks like you’re going to need a few stitches, now this will sting a little stay still.”
The doctor took out a large needle, which I was assuming contained pain meds and started to inject it into my skin then soon after began laying in the stitches. Even with the medicine, it hurt pretty badly. I was glad that he didn’t ask any questions or seem to think I was being abused in any way. Well he did know my family, so he pretty much had an idea that they wouldn’t abuse me.
After he was done, I waved as I headed out and looked over the instructions to take care of the stitches. I wasn’t looking forward to having them taken out when the time came. If they hurt as much coming out as they do coming in.
I started to head home wanting to talk to Olivia, remembering that I had dropped the book. Hopefully nobody else had picked it up. Though she had spoken me without the book before, I was curious of why she didn’t come and talk to me now. Nobody else was around at the moment. I stopped by the sidewalk of my house, looking around in the leaves trying to find the book. After a while of looking I found it and sighed with relief hugging it close to me.I slowly opened the book and what I saw surprised me. A light shone on the book, and the figure of Olivia started floating up towards the clouds. I reached out, yelling as she disappeared.
“Hey where are you going? You have a lot of things to explain!”
But now she was gone without a trace, I guess with the uncle who killed her now in jail she was finally at peace. But now what was going to happen to me?
Now Laura was going to think she was crazy for thinking I saw her sister, since I had no proof of her anymore. I sighed as I walked home, feeling quite empty inside without Olivia around. I was going to miss her, but she was in a better place now.
I sat on a chair, needing rest. What had happened was quite an ordeal. Denise rushed inside the house and gave me a big hug. Tackling me and obviously glad to see I was alright.
“Ayita! I’m so glad to see your alright! I was worried I messed everything up with the stunt I pulled.”
I shook my head, pushing her off me needing my space for the moment. Everything that happened kind of sunk in. I realized I could of gotten killed by that madman and what she had done could of really gone sour.
“Denise, I don’t know what possessed you to go after him with a squirt gun of all things! Why didn’t you call the police in the first place?”
Denise frowned, seeming to rue her decision to do that.
“How was I supposed to explain to the police that a ghost told me where you were?”
I couldn’t help but laugh, she did have a point there.
“Still it doesn’t explain the squirt gun”
She shrugged a little bit with a strange look on her face, I could tell she couldn’t really give her reason for choosing to do that.
“It was a last minute decision”
I sighed, stretching out looking blank at the wall I was angry at her, but other things were dragging on my mind. I couldn’t believe it was all over with now. There were so many questions that didn’t get answered too. I wish I could talk to Olivia, but I guess that time is worth waiting for. I didn’t want to die and go where she was right now. I still had my date with Greg to think about!
I have to say that my life is better thanks to Olivia, I gathered up the courage to make friends when I didn’t before.
