The perfect timing

Chapter 9

Trying to hide my shock about his latest words, I looked everywhere, but him and asked with a noticeable fake laugh. “What are you talking about?”

But Reece only narrowed his eyes at me and answered. “I talk about the fact, that you are able to do something that isn’t normal and nobody except of you can do.”

“But if you don’t want to admit it, then that’s fine with me, because the both of us know,” he pointed with his hand between the two of us. “That I’m telling the truth.”

I gulped at his words. It was better to not say anything now, instead of trying to convince him otherwise, because he had already set his mind. As Reece then noticed that I wasn’t going to give him a proper answer to his statement, he pursed his lips and stared at me, waiting if I would change my mind. But I remained silent.

“Fine,” he huffed out at my behavior and was about to grab my hand again, though, wasn’t able to. Not because I snatched my hand away from his grip, but more because he wasn’t able to move.

I groaned audibly. Not again and not now. Time stopping now, would only confirm his idea that I had indeed an extraordinary ability, if he would notice anything. And he must have at the first time, because it was the only logical explanation, why he knew about my power.

And as suddenly as my power had appeared it also vanished and Reece was about to finish his move and tried to grab my hand, but instead he only took a hold of air.

His eyes met mine, and I stared innocently at him, trying to hide the fact that I used my power accidently. But again he only narrowed his eyes at me.

“I’m capable to walk on my own, thanks,” I told him and also narrowed my eyes at him.

“Fine,” he answered gritting his teeth and added. “Now follow me,” and after that he walked away.

Annoyed that he left me behind, I hurried after him until we were walking next to each other. This boy was damn frustrating.

“Where are we going?” I asked after a while of silently walking because the curiosity got the best of me.

“You will see any moment, because we are almost there,” he replied in a monotone voice, not even sparing me a second glance and looking straight ahead.

By now we had been walking a good ten minutes and had reached the richer part of the city. All the houses were larger and more expensive looking, than in the part, where I was for example living. There were also a few big companies along the road. We then stopped, probably in front of the biggest among them.

“Matthew enterprise,” I read and my eyes widened in realization. This must be the company of Reece parents. And I thought his home was already amazing, but it was nothing compared to this building. I couldn’t even believe my own eyes.

This was something you called filthy rich.

“Now come on,” Reece told me, stepping into the building without another glance at the large front, which I couldn’t understand.

But he was probably used to this kind of stuff, growing up with money and a lifestyle few could effort.

Inside the building I didn’t know where to look first, everything looked so sterile, but at the same time really modern. The interior designer had done a great job and I would have rather wanted to take a closer look at everything than to follow Reece.

I followed the guy as he approached a woman in her early twenties, sitting at a black wooden desk and working on her computer.

She immediately looked up when she heard our footsteps approaching and smiled brightly at the sight of Reece. Either she was a thrilled to go receptionist, or she was glad to see him. I assumed the second point when I saw the way she blushed at the smile Reece gave her in greeting.

You could describe the woman in two words. Utterly beautiful. She had long straight brown hair, that reached her navel and hazel brown eyes, which complimented her olive skin tone. Adding to that she was wearing a beautiful and classy blue dress, which fitted her perfectly and showed her slim figure in the right light.

With her looks she was the kind of woman, no one wanted to compete with. And the kind who put your self esteem to the ground.

“How can I help you Reece?” she asked still smiling and with a smooth voice.

Reece got straight to the point and said. “We need to get down Courtney.”

But his words only confused me. Down? What was he talking about? Had this building a basement and if why did he want to go there, I asked myself glancing beneath me for. But there was nothing to see.

Courtney then looked behind him, apparently noticing me for the first time and her eyes widened at my appearance. Was she also aware of my power?

Courtney nodded eagerly at his words and opened a few drawers until she found a completely black card and handed it to Reece.

“Thanks,” he said and turned towards me, but I was still staring at the card in his left hand.

After I finally took my eyes off of it, I looked up at Reece, who was already watching me. With his head he mentioned me to follow him, which I did, because I wanted to know what this was all about.

The both of us then walked towards a normal looking elevator and as Reece pushed a button, the door opened immediately. After we got inside the door closed and instead of pushing one of the five buttons, he took the card from earlier out of his pocket and pulled it through a slit, I hadn’t noticed until now.

The elevator moved down and the guy finally spoke.

“Okay, this is probably going to shock you a bit, but don’t run away at the first sight of something abnormal,” he told me in a serious voice and I nodded in hesitation.

Satisfied that I didn’t argue with him he continued.

“My mother is going to explain everything to you in detail, but for now you have to know...” he started, but I interrupted him.

“Your mother?” I asked disbelieving.

What had his mother to do with everything?

“Yes, my mother,” he explained. “The one who gave birth to me,” he added, and I glared at his smirk.

Now was not the time to try to be funny, I thought annoyed, but didn’t say a word. I just wanted him to go on.

“As I was saying my mother will explain everything and you only have to know that the people, but mostly teenager we are going to meet every second, are like you. They all have superpowers,” he added, watching every move of mine.

Could he be telling the truth? Teenagers like me? Surprisingly I believed every word that Reece just told me, but I wasn’t sure if it was, because I wanted him to tell the truth or because I truly believed him.

Then the elevator stopped, and I waited impatiently for the doors to open. And as they opened I wasn’t prepared for the sight in front of me.

A few feet away from us, Kitty and Eric were standing engrossed in a heated conversation and as they heard the doors opening, they looked up curiously. Our gazes met, and we looked at each other in surprise. Only one question was in that moment on my mind. Did they have superpowers too?
