Chapter 30
“What now?” I then asked Reece, still looking at the unconscious Haley. I really hoped she would stay like this for another while. But we couldn’t be sure, so we had to hurry up.
“I’m going to call my mother and they can take of this situation,” he answered me, while mentioning at the baseball teams and the audience.
“And we are getting this girl to the M.E before she wakes up and makes a scene again,” Reece added as Eric and Kitty walked towards us.
“Good job Kitty,” Reece told his sister, when she halted just a few steps in front of him and tackled him into a hug. I didn’t notice when I told Kitty about my plan, but now looking at her and how she was engulfing her brother and holding tight onto him, I saw that she must have been afraid the whole time. Now I was even more happy that everything worked out.
“You did an amazing job too,” I said to Eric, and he gave me a surprising side hug, which I returned immediately.
“So did you partner,” he told me and I grinned at the partner part. We were really a good team, and I was happy that I got him as a partner.
After that everything happened in a hurry, while Reece called his mother and explained everything to her, the rest of us made sure that Haley didn’t wake up. Luckily she didn’t, and we only needed to keep a close eye on her. The sad thing was while I was watching her, I just saw a fragile looking girl. But I knew better. She was dangerous and would use the next moment to attack if she was able to.
In less than 10 minutes Juliette and a few others arrived at school and she immediately told us and one of her workers to take Haley to the M.E. Nobody protested and soon I found myself in the big building again. There they brought the girl into a room, which had the feeling of a prison cell. The room only had a small bed in the corner and I asked myself if this really was a cell for criminals. She was locked in there and couldn’t get out. In my mind I should have been relived, but I wasn’t and I didn’t really knew why. Something about this situation felt so odd.
“Celia,” Reece approached me after a while and I turned around towards him. He had changed into new clothes because the one he was wearing before had blood and dirt on it from the fight with Haley. Everybody else was also resting or getting something to eat though I couldn’t. I hadn’t left my spot, and I was still standing next to Haley’s cell. I could see the girl through the room because there was a part that was only made of glass. I didn’t even knew that the M.E had so many secret rooms.
“Yes?” I asked Reece and his face fell a bit at my words. Even in my own ears I could hear my exhaustion.
“You don’t have to stay here, you know. If she wakes up, they will inform us.”
I sighed at his words. “I know, but I just can’t leave,” I told Reece, rubbing my eyes.
“Well, at least eat something.” The boy offered me a sandwich which I didn’t notice he was holding and gestured towards the little sofa on one sight of the room.
Because I didn’t want to argue with him right now, I mumbled a thank you and did what he told me. I must have been really hungry because I ate the sandwich in less than a few minutes. After that a silence followed, both of us in their own world. Though Reece didn’t stay quiet for long.
“I also wanted to tell you that you were brilliant back then coming up with that plan,” the boy next to me began. For a moment I stopped looking at the girl to look properly at him. He was already watching me and I didn’t know what to made out of that. Secretly I was flattered and happy that he praised my work.
I was about to answer him and thank him when he shut me down with his finger. “I’m not finished yet,” he spoke with a soft smile and I raised my eyebrows at his soft tone. So I just shut up and listened to what he had to say.
“I really wanted to say sorry for ignoring you the last few days and how I acted at the baseball game and in general.
That was all he said. And one part of me was really happy that he apologized, but another wanted him to say something else. I wanted him to talk about our almost kiss and not just forget about it like it never happened. But it seemed like Reece had another opinion on that.
“So do you forgive me?” he asked when I didn’t say anything. For a moment I weighed my options. I could just say yes, because he really meant it or I could talk about last time, with the possibility it would be awkward again between us. In the end I went for the later because there was already too much drama in my life.
“I forgive you Reece.” I tried to make my voice as cheerful as I could and hoped he wouldn’t notice, but again I didn’t need to, because we got interrupted. This seemed to became a habit of people, always interrupting Reece and me.
“Oh how sweet,” another voice let out in a mocking tone and my gaze hardened as I saw Haley now sitting at the bed with a disgusted face.
“You are awake,” Reece said matter of factually and the girl sat up properly.
“Yeah for a while now and I even had to listen to you two. Love is so disgusting,” she added and threw her hands up. At the words love I took a breath in. She was just trying to get under our skin I told myself and tried to be as calm as ever.
Reece on the other side didn’t hide his anger. He balled his hands into a fist and more to my surprise I took one into mine. “Ignore her, she just wants to make you angry,” I told him and he calmed down at my words and I took my hand immediately back after that. What am I thinking? I just told myself that this needs to stop and the next thing I do is touching him. But it was like I couldn’t stop myself, like his hand belonged into mine. Stop thinking about that Celia. What is now wrong with me? I groaned mentally.
Next Reece took something out of his pocket, which looked like a kind of walkie talkie and said to whoever on the other side that Haley was awake. Surprisingly Haley was quiet after that and just smiled wickedly. She was up to no good and now I actually preferred her being knocked out.
And not a minute later they walked through the door. At the lead Juliette, followed by her daughter and Eric, who looked a lot better now after they had cleaned up his wounds, then Slade with a determined face and last to my surprise Wyatt followed.
“Look at that, you all came for me,” Haley had to say, getting up from the bed and getting as close to us as the window would allow. She was grinning right now and if she didn’t have such an evil smirk on her face, I would have called her beautiful with her delicate features.
“And there even is the boy who let me in last time,” she added with a cackle.
Wyatt stiffened at her words and gave her the best glare he could muster. “Don’t talk to me,” he told her harshly, nevertheless she didn’t stop.
“Why Wyatt? Do I get under your skin?”
“I said shut up,” he growled and now Juliette began to speak.
“I wouldn’t be so confident girl. I didn’t forget what you did last time to me,” she said and her voice could cut ice. It was sharp and angry and even Haley had to take a step back at that. But the shock was quickly forgotten, and she went back to her bed ignoring us.
“What is going to happen with her?” I asked nobody in particular and Slade answered me.
“We will keep her in this room for a while where she can’t use her power and then we will decide what we are going to do next.”
“Of course we are going to find out more about her intentions,” Juliette added and gave me a short glance. Nancy. I nodded at that. The girl deserved to be trapped in this room and she needed to stay there as along as it would take to get information about how to wake up Nancy.
“But there is one thing I don’t get,” Wyatt suddenly said and everybody turned towards him, curious about what he had to say.
“And what would that be?” Recce asked with a slightly annoyed tone in his voice. He really couldn’t stop showing how much he hated him, not even for one question.
But Wyatt didn’t face by Reece just continued talking, voicing out his thoughts.
“Well we all know now, that she can hypnotize people with a look into their eyes. Though Kitty and Eric told us that the whole stadium fall asleep through her words. And I just ask myself how did she do that?”
Suddenly there was it again. This nagging as well as creepy feeling and his words gave me chills. He was right. How was is possible for her to do that?
Every pair of eyes was then focused on the girl and she was just smiling at us. Smiling like she knew something we didn’t.
And then everything happened in only seconds. One moment we were standing and in the next everybody went roughly to the ground. There was a disturbing loud explosion right next to us and nobody was prepared. The whole neighborhood must have heard it. Unfortunately I hit my head hard on the floor and for a moment everything went blurry, but I still could see the damage that was made.
Someone had blew a part from the room Haley was staying in. Glass had burst into millions of pieces and the walls were crumpling down more and more. The others were spread throughout the room and I saw that Reece had a big piece of glass in his arm that didn’t burst immediately into pieces. Eric had protectively put his arms around Kitty in the last moment, Juliette and Wyatt were still shielding their body from more damage and Slade was lying unconscious in one corner of the room. I wanted to stand up and help them especially Reece because he was clearly in pain by the noises he tried to keep in with no success. But something stopped me or more a voice. A soothing one, however it made my skin crawl.
“Because it wasn’t Haley. I made the audience unconscious.”
