Chapter 27
I woke up to something or someone putting some kind of pressure on my face. It didn’t hurt at all; it was a kind of stroking feeling. But when I woke up fully I saw what was happening. Ares was sitting on my chest and liking with his tongue all over my face and in the background I heard chuckling.
“Ares,” I exclaimed after realization hit me and I tried to whip his drool of my face, though, know it was sticking onto my hands. But Ares didn’t let me put him away from me and happily began to jump onto my lap where he settled down just like that.
By now load laughter was filling the room and my eyes scanned the room for the noise. Kitty was still next to me chuckling at the sight of me and Reece was doing the same thing from his place next to his sister’s door.
“Thanks for helping me out there guys,” I told them sarcastically and they both just grinned at me in response.
“You know you will never get this chance again, to see somebody licking your face like that happily. He is probably the only male in this world, who wants to touch you.” Reece said with a grin on his face. I knew he was joking, but it was way too early for that.
“You didn’t seem to mind last time when you touched my face,” I answered with a smirk and Kitty suddenly screamed, “Burn.”
“Hahahah,” Reece answered. “Your so funny.”
“I know, I know,” I said absently waving my hand. Absently, because one I was still tired, even when Ares woke me up and second because my last dream occupied in my mind. Or could I even call it a dream? My mother was alive and the bracelet I was wearing maybe could help me find her. But how was I going to do this?
“Earth to Celia, are you there?” Kitty asked me waving one hand directly in front of my face and I shook my head to clear my mind.
“Yes, of course, I was just spacing out,” I told her with what I was hoping was a reassuring smile.
“You sure?” Reece asked stepping closer so that he was known standing next to the bed.
“Yes,” I answered jumping out of the bed in one swift movement. But I forgot that Ares was still sitting on my lap and somehow I didn’t notice that I was feeling weak. What came out was me stumbling and I would have hit the ground if it wasn’t for Reece, who caught me in the last moment.
“Woahh,” he said holding me stately on my waist to support me. “Careful there.”
“Sorry and sorry Ares,” I said when I tried to get my balance back. Nevertheless it didn’t work, and I slumped back into Reece arms.
“Is she okay?” I heard Kitty asking with worry and then I felt Reece putting his hand on my forehead.
“No, she has a fewer,” he said with a frown. And then he just swept me off my feet and put me back onto the bed while Kitty put a blanket over me.
“I can call the doctor,” she immediately offered, and I was about to protest, but Reece already had told her that it was a good idea.
“I don’t need a doctor,” I said to him. “I don’t even remember the last time I was ill,” I admitted. And it was true, the last time I had been seeing a doctor was probably at my birth. How odd I only seemed to realize right now.
“Of course you don’t remember,” Reece answered me reassuringly. “We super humans rarely get ill.”
“And don’t worry she is getting Slade, he is our superhuman doctor, if you want to call it that.”
“Really?” I only muttered, now feeling the aching of my body and the burning of my forehead. What was happening to me? And why know? First the thing with my mother and suddenly I get ill and Reece tells me that this is a raw thing for us super humans?
“Yes, don’t worry, you are going to be fine.
From my side, I suddenly felt a move dipping into the bed and felt that Ares was cuddling next to me. At the sight I smiled.
“We are watching over you,” Reece promised pointing at Ares and my smile widened, though now I couldn’t ignore the pain I was in and fully stretched my body out.
His words were reassuring and like he told me neither Reece nor Ares left my side until Slade arrived. He had a professional look when he appeared though was still smiling when he greeted me.
In one hand he was holding a briefcase, what really lead me to think that he was kind of a doctor.
“So how are you feeling?” he asked me, positioning himself next to me onto the bed. “Oh and by the way could you leave the room you two?” Slade asked in a nice way and the siblings did what they had been told. But before Reece left the room, he mentioned me to look to my left where Ares was still watching me. And like he promised one of them was watching over me the whole time, which made my smile.
“I guess I felt better,” I told him and he chuckled at my response.
“They told you that I’m the doctor of the super humans and not just a professor?” the man then questioned me.
“They did, but Reece also said that we don’t get ill often. Is everything alright with me?” I asked worried.
Instead of answered me Slade got something out of his briefcase and told me to sit down properly. It was a little machine, which he scanned my body with and then he felt my forehead like Reece did. A few minutes later he smiled at me kindly. After a few normal questions, like where my body hurt and how I felt, he asked me, “Have you been in a lot of stress lately?”
I hesitated before answering.
“Kind of. It is a lot going on in my life,“ I then answered him truthfully and he patted my hand.
“This is probably the reason for your fewer. Your mind is stressed out and so is your body. That happens to the best of us.” You are alright and there is nothing seriously going on with you. You just need a break and the fewer will going down on his own.”
“Good to hear,” I said and then thanked him for his help.
“Don’t mention it and call me, if you aren’t feeling well again,” he said seriously, and I nodded.
“By the way you have amazing guardians,” Slade smiled knowingly, and I looked at him weirdly. The one next to you and the one who is standing next to the door.”
“I’m I right Reece?” he called out and Reece opened the door in the next moment with a sheepish smile. But then the boy noticed how he was acting and a smirk settled onto hisface.
“Of course.” Only you Reece I thought.
In the end I was commanded to stay in bed the whole time, while my two “guardians”, where watching over me and making sure that I drank enough and rest. Kitty was against her whining commanded by Reece still to go to school, which she didn’t do without a little fight. But in the end she listened to her brother. He told her it was enough and okay if he skipped school for a day, but for her it was a whole new level.
I didn’t need to hid my surprise about Reece staying with me because he clearly was aware of that.
“I just don’t won‘t leave you alone at home, because I’m sure your aunt will be at work the whole day. And it sucks being ill and by themselves,” he reasoned. “It has nothing to do with being you,” he added and I answered with a slight smile, a “of course it doesn’t,” and “I would never think of another reason.”
It was actually really enjoyable to spend the day with Reece and Ares when I wasn’t sleeping to get a good rest. My body was healing fast and by noon my temperature had faded away by itself, like Slade had told me.
But how nice and calm it could be at first, it wouldn’t be my life if nothing extraordinary would have happened that day.
I was still laying in bed, Ares tucked into my sight and even Reece was sitting cross-legend now next to me. We just talked about how he got the idea of getting Ares for Kitty’s birthday when she stormed into the room breathlessly, choking out, “I couldn’t stop them.”
Neither me nor Reece knew what she was talking about. Though Reece immediately positioned himself in front of us if something was going to attack us. However this wasn’t necessarily, because in the next moment I knew what Kitty was talking about.
Aiden stormed into the room with a determined face and ready to kill someone, hot on his heels was Liam with a quiet similar expression on his face, though less angry. To my surprise even Eric was there running behind them, but more to stop them instead of helping them.
“What are you guys doing here?” I immediately asked them and when Aiden saw my face, he became more relaxed, but was still on edge.
“We came for you,” Liam breathed out, like he just run a marathon.
“Why?” I asked in wonder.
“Because Aiden thought he kidnapped you,” Liam answered before my best friend even had the chance to answer and pointed at Reece.
“Are you serious?” Reece and I exclaimed at the same time and then looked at Aiden.
“Well, he could have,” my best friend pointed out, and I wanted to smack my head.
“This is ridiculous and by the way who gave you the permission to just enter my house?” he asked with a not so nice undertone.
“I did, because I wanted to make sure that my best friend is alright,” Aiden answered with the same tone Reece had used on him and also glared at him.
Reece didn’t like someone talking like that to him and also glared back angrily.
“Guys, guys,” I tried to stop them from being ridiculous and maybe starting a fight, but someone else was a step ahead of me.
Ares suddenly jumped from his previous place and landed gracefully in front of Aiden. He then sniffed a few times at Aiden before he happily barked at him and wanted to be stroked by him.
At the sight of the little dog Aiden immediately got weak. He loved dogs and always wished to have one. He then patted the dog and laughed when he began to lick his face. Reece on the other side had quiet the opposite reaction.
He mumbled grumpily, “Ares you are supposed to attack them and not to befriend them.”
I had to snicker at his words and Reece gave me also a glare, but I just ignored it.
And this is how the seven of us ended all ended together in Kitty’s bedroom eating takeout together. After of course I had told Aiden and Liam why I had been staying at the Matthews in the first place. Then that I got a fewer and Reece was just being the nice guy and kept me company. Also they told us how they followed Kitty back to her home because she had told them that I was being ill and was staying at hers. Aiden didn’t believe this and so made Liam come with him to check on me. In the end my best friend just was a good one and was making sure that nobody was harming me and that I was on my own will here.
Liam was currently sitting on Kitty’s comfortable carpet on the ground right next to her giant bed, Kitty and Eric were sitting next to each other on one side of the bed, ignoring the glare Reece was giving them, Ares was again tucked to my side and Aiden and Reece were sitting on either side next to me. It was quiet a funny side.
The good thing about their company was not only them, because I liked everyone of them but also because they distracted me from thinking too much. About my mother, Nancy, Haley and everything else that would have been occupying my mind. It was true what Slade had said, I was stressed out and nothing was better than having a good sleep and their friends around them.
