The perfect timing

Chapter 23

No one was saying anything; they were just staring at the girl, some with open mouths and some with confusion written on their faces, until Juliette made her way towards the girl, just stopping a few feet away from her.

“Who are you and how did you get in?” she asked with an icy voice, which never lacked authority and seriousness.

The girl just laughed at her words and then gestured at Wyatt. “You know that was actually the easy part,” she told her, smiling mischievously. “He let me in.”

Everyone was now looking at Wyatt, whose face was now white as a ghost and he was repeatedly shaking his head from side to side, like he was having a bad dream.

“No, that is not true, I never let you in,” he answered immediately.

Now everyone’s head snapped back towards the girl. It was like we were watching a drama, waiting for something to occur. But what was I thinking, this was the girl, I had been looking for. I didn’t want to hide behind Reece, I wanted her to tell me how I could help Nancy and then let her pay for everything she had done. So I stepped out of my hiding place and situated myself next to Reece. He wasn’t so happy about my decision and gave me a disapproving look, but I just ignored it.

“You did darling. You just don’t remember it,” she said coolly and then her eyes focused on me. She must have noticed my movement.

“There she is, the girl, why I’m here in the first place,” she cackled and just walked away from Juliette like it was nothing.

But it was still Juliette we were talking about and she didn’t let people just walk away from her like that. Her hand immediately pulled the girl back and now other people got into action as well. Some super humans formed a circle around the girl and others went forward to help Reece mother. However something strange happened in the next moment.

“Stop where you are,” a strange voice suddenly echoed through the room and the voice surprisingly belonged to Juliette.

Everyone was confused now and a guy who worked here as a trainer asked, “But why?”

“Just listen to what I’m saying,” the woman answered him. “Stay away!”

I could see that many didn’t want to listen to her and still help her, but they did what she had told them and they kept their distance. And that was also the moment everything made sense to me. She was manipulating her and when I just followed my instincts and run towards Juliette and making eye contact with her, I knew I was right. She was using her powers on her, like she did with Nancy and that guy we saw in her room. Juliette’s eyes had changed color, and it seemed like she was in a trance.

“Amazing isn’t it?” the girl who was now standing in front of me said. But before I could answer her arms were wrapping themselves around me and not to hug me. They were Juliette’s arms, and she was crashing my bones with her grip.

“Don’t move or I will make her to some bone crashing,” the girl then called out to someone behind me. I tried to take a peek to who she was talking too, though Juliette’s grip tightened around me.

“Let her go,” I heard Reece voice answer her and in the background people were starting to whisper different things. “What is Juliette doing and what wants this girl?” Others answered, “she is controlling her, look at her eyes.” These conversations were among the young super humans. The adults were slowly but steady coming closely, but the girl warned them again and everyone stopped what they were doing.

I was in a conflict myself. I was sure that I could get myself free out of the grip, like they trained me to do. Nevertheless that meant I could hurt Juliette, and it wasn’t her fault that she was trying to harm me. So I just stayed in my position for a while and tried to start a conversation with her, so the others could come up with a plan.

“Why are you her?” I asked grinding my teeth because with every movement of mine the hold got tighter.

Now I had her full attention, and she was grinning at me. “Well, Celia I’m here to talk to you.”

“And you couldn’t do it without such a show?” I asked her bitterly, and she thought about my words for a moment.

“No, where would be the fun in that?”

“You are sick,” I spitted out, and she laughed loudly at my words. Fortunately Juliette’s arms stopped tightening around me and I think she even put less effort in holding onto me. Maybe my plan was working.

“I have been called many things, so don’t think you words are hurting me sweetheart,” the girl told me and her eyes narrowed.

“I’m just here ...” she wasn’t able to finish her sentence, because suddenly her movement stopped and her mouth hung open ready to finish her words.

The time was standing still and I think I have been never this happy before for my power to just appear. But what startled me was a voice directly behind me.

“What is happening?” I immediately turned around and also got out of Juliette’s grip to come face to face with Reece. He was trapped in my power like Aiden had been.

“My power, this is what is happening,” I answered and his eyes became big and wandered around the room. Everyone wasn’t moving and caught in their movement.

“Incredible,” he whispered, and I had to nod at that. He was right; my power never had a better timing to appear.

“Buy why I’am not trapped like everybody else?” he questioned and I bit my lip slightly. That was a really good question.

“I don’t know, though we have to use our chance. I don’t know when my power will stop and everything is going back to normal,” I informed Reece, and he nodded in understanding.

“We have to do something about your mother, she is controlled by her.”

“I know. Okay here is the plan,” he told me and then slung his arms around his mother from behind. “I will knock her out when your power stops and you...” like the girl Reece couldn’t finish his sentence, before everything shifted again, and I just did what I thought would be the best thing, I put myself in front of Reece and his mother.

“To tell you that...” the girl was about to finish her sentence, though when she noticed that something had changed she closed her mouth. Her head moved from side to side looking from Reece who had just like he told me knocked out his own mother with some kind of squeeze and me blocking them away from her.

“How did you do that?” she asked in surprise, but it must have clicked in her head and she actually laughed out. She really was a crazy person. “Your power I remember them telling me about it.

I wanted to ask her who “them” was, but I didn’t have a chance, because in the next moment a little dog appeared next to me barking and snarling at the girl. Like someone had bitten her she stumbled away and I think she looked for a moment frightened. But then she put herself together and gritted her teeth.

“This is not the last time we meet each other,” she told me before she just run away and out of the building before someone could stop her. “And by the way my name is Haley.”

After that I was tackled into a hug with Reece by his sister. “Are you alright Celia?” she asked me in concern and I told her that I was fine. “And what about mum?” she asked Reece, and he nodded that everything was going to be okay with her.

Now everyone was slowly processing what had just happened and was asking me if I was alright. The adults were now in control again and were trying to find out how Haley had got into the building. Someone also brought Juliette into the infirmary and was going to check if she was fine. Others found themselves in little groups and were talking about what had happened and if I heard right, I was one of the main topics. Amazing.

“Whose dog is this by the way?” Kitty then asked, and I had to look down. The dog was still sitting next to me; he or she just stopped barking. If I thought about it, he or she was actually the hero of this day, because I was sure he/she made Haley run away. Why? I don’t know. Maybe she was afraid of dogs even if I couldn’t imagine someone like her being afraid of this little puppy. So I bend down and began to stroke his/her fur. The little one barked happily at me and I smiled at that.

“I don’t know, but thank you little puppy,” I said to him or her.

“Actually,” Reece then began, and I looked up at him, waiting for his next words. He was scratching his neck and now looking at his sister, who had also started to stroke the dog.

“Happy birthday Kitty.”
