The perfect timing

Chapter 14

As I then walked out of the room, leaving Slade behind, I was greeted by five pairs of eyes staring at me with curiosity. Kitty, Eric and Wyatt had also stopped arguing by now and were watching every move of mine.

“So?” Kitty asked, stretching the o and walking a few steps closer towards me.

“What did you talk about in there?” She fired her next question at me and just continued talking, not even taking a breath.

“We weren’t able to listen to your conversation. We only could see your lips moving,” she added with a slight pout and I chuckled at her expression. She looked even younger and her cheeks were red from rambling on without taking a breath.

This girl never failed to make me smile, even with the strangest things.

“Well,” I started and recalled the scene with Slade in my head. “First he told me some basic facts and after that we talked about my power. He gave me many stuff to think about,” I added.

“I’m sure he did,” Juliette suddenly interfered and walked towards me, putting one hand on my shoulder and squeezing it lightly.

“I’m going to talk to him now,” she announced letting go of me. “The four of you should show Celia the training room to make her familiar with it,” the woman told her kids, Eric and Wyatt and then just walked away like casually.

It seemed like a habit of hers to command people around and after that just leave them.

As Juliette then was talking with Slade, Wyatt insisted, “But first you have to tell us about your power!”

Kitty nodded eagerly about his request and even Eric had the same opinion.

“I’m also curious about your power,” he commented and even pouted like a puppy, which made me laugh. It also reminded me of their guess and their argument earlier.

“Guys, she doesn’t need to tell you anything if she doesn’t want to,” Reece suddenly interrupted and I looked at the guy, who had been quiet all the time. He openly stared back at me, though it was hard to read his facial expression.

“No, it’s fine Reece. I want to tell you,” I said giving him a short appreciated smile.

Then I averted my gaze from him and turned my attention towards the rest of them, who were waiting for my answer impatiently.

“I’m able to freeze time around me and in the meantime I’m the only one who is able to move around,” I explained and watched everybody carefully.

For a moment nobody of them said anything, but then Wyatt whistled and said,” That is even better than walking through walls.”

“Impressive,” Eric commented my power with the same words I had used to describe his.

Kitty only nodded in approval and I saw fascination in her eyes shining. Even Reece seemed impressed, but like I said before it was sometimes really hard to read him.

“Can you show us your power?” Kitty then wanted to know and I froze at her words. She must have noticed my discomfort and immediately added, “But you don’t have to.”

Now I felt kind of bad and answered more in a whisper, though they were still able to hear me.

“No, it’s not that. I just can’t control my power,” I admitted slightly embarrassed.

“Don’t worry about that,” Eric commented, smiling at me.

“You only need practice and in no time you are able to do it,” Wyatt added and also gave me a big smile. And I don’t know why, but his smile had something devious, so I just nodded.

Eric then began to laugh loudly and I looked around if anybody understood why he suddenly felt the need to laugh, though they were as clueless as I was.

“Oh, I’m just laughing, because we are kind of stupid,” he told us and I wasn’t the only one who raised his eyebrows in confusion.

What was he talking about?

“We can actually never see Celia’s power, because we are frozen in time when she uses it,” he clarified and suddenly his laughing made sense.

They were some mumbling of approval and Kitty nodded in understanding. But was he really that right, I thought when I suddenly remembered the incident with Aiden. He could walk around and wasn’t frozen like the time. Nevertheless I didn’t told them anything about it, because I had to find out first about it by myself.

“Okay, the question about her power is finally solved and we can go now to the training room,” Reece announced and nobody had something against it so they all agreed.

“Let the way,” I told him and with a smirk he went out of the room and we followed him in silence.

The way towards the so called training room wasn’t that far. We just walked through the hallway, I walked along yesterday with Juliette and one of the door lead to it. Everything was so much bigger downstairs than I imagined and the training room by itself was massive. It was also the biggest room I had seen here so far.

A few teenagers and some adults were inside the room and were working and training their powers. Some of them gave me curious looks; however most of them didn’t even recognize my presence. The room was also separated in different sections, where you could train various things. They even had a boxing ring, where currently two guys were fighting each other.

You could say they had everything you needed. I even get a glimpse of some weapons as we walked through the hall.

But what caught my eye wasn’t exactly all the things inside, it was more their people. Especially two teenagers fascinated me with their extraordinary ability.

A guy, who was able to light fire with his bare hands, was the first one. Around of him somebody had put torches as well as big candles and with ease he lit them on with different sizes of fireballs. In less than a minute about forty torches and candles were burning. It was an amazing sight.

His looks were also interesting, because he had fire red hair, freckles all over his face and fair skin. I didn’t know if he had dyed his hair to match his power or if it was his natural color, but it made him even more interesting.

And then there was this little girl, with her twin sister. Well, I thought she had a twin sister. But it turned out that it was her power, because she was able to multiply herself.

Out of two identical looking girls became three and then four, five and so on.

“Wow,” I breathed out in amazement and fascination and Kitty snickered at my expression.

“You like it?” she asked me with a grin and I answered immediately and excitement, “Yes, it’s incredible what they are able to do.”

“Oh you think that was incredible?” Wyatt suddenly asked me and I was about to face him, when I was in a flash lifted into the air.

I was hovering over all their heads and I laughed at my new position out of joy. I was really flying in the air and Wyatt was holding me up with his powers. There was only one word to describe it; amazing. I was also able to look over the whole place and didn’t even care that Wyatt could drop me if he wanted to.

But my happy moment was destroyed when Reece had to open his mouth and huffed out,” Let her down.”

I frowned at his request and asked, “But why?”

I knew he couldn’t stand Wyatt, but he didn’t need to bring me into their problems. Reece then lifted his head up, not looking happy at all and asked me in a mocking tone, “Do you know what time it is?”

I shook my head in confusion at his question. It couldn’t be that late. We just arrived here, but it seemed like I was terrible wrong.

“It’s almost five o’clock,” he answered me rolling his eyes and I gasped in shock, still floating in the air. Where did time go?

“Can you let her down now?” Reece asked annoyed looking shortly at Wyatt.

I followed his gaze and waited for Wyatt to let me down. With a smirk on his face he abruptly moved his hand and put me down. But not onto the ground he let me fall directly into Reece arms, who luckily caught me in the right moment.

“There you have her,” he grinned,” You don’t have to thank me,” he added before he walked away from us.

But all my attention was now focused on Reece and not on a leaving Wyatt. The way I fitted perfectly in his arms and all the places he touched burned like fire, but in a good way. I was also staring at him like I was in trance and when I noticed what I was doing I wanted to smack myself. What was I thinking?

He also stared at me for a moment before he let me down and then just turned away from me like nothing had happened. It was better like that, I thought. But why was I feeling like he had just rejected me?

“Let’s go,” he then told me and I sighted deeply, running my hands through my hair. I would never get him and his mood swings.

After that I said goodbye to Kitty and Eric and followed Reece up and to his car.

The car ride was at first silent and kind of awkward, because no one of us had anything to say. I was still thinking about what happened and why Wyatt let me fall into Reece arms. Nothing made sense and after a while I just gave up to think about it.

Halfway towards the hospital I broke the silence and asked Reece something which had been since yesterday on my mind.

“What is your power?” I asked him bluntly and into the silence.

He glanced at me for a second before he focused on the road again.

“You really want to know?” he questioned, raising one eyebrow.

“Yes, I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t want to know,” I told him irritated and he smiled at my answer.

“Take a guess!”

“Reece,” I whined, not in the mood to play games.

“Fine,” he chuckled as he got the message that I didn’t like it to be riled up.

“All of my five senses are highly developed.” I’m able to see better and more into the distance for example,” he explained and I listened carefully.

“My sense of smell is also really good, I can remember smells and find them again,” he added with a proud smile, but it immediately vanished as I asked, “Like a dog?”

He snorted at my answer and maybe I had hurt his ego. But it wouldn’t hurt him that much so I just grinned.

“You really compare me to a barking and slavering animal?” he asked indignantly and I frowned at his words.

“You don’t like dogs?”

“That’s not the point Celia,” he told me annoyed even calling me by my name and I just laughed heartily.

“Okay, then just forget that I ever said a word,” I told him, still chuckling and putting a hand above my move to stop it.

“But all in all you can smell, see, feel, hear and taste better,” I stated and he gave me small nod as a confirmation.

My thoughts then went to his power and suddenly a question popped into my head.

“Is that also the reason why you knew that I was behind that curtain at the party?” I asked him, remembering our encounter.

“Yes, I heard your heartbeat and your breathing,” he simply replied and that were his last words at our common ride.

Not any longer we also arrived at our destination and Reece called out, “See you at school tomorrow,” before he just drove away, not even waiting for my reply.

“See you at school,” I said but my words were only heard by myself.
