The perfect timing

Chapter 12

Reece was now rubbing small circles on my back and pressing me tightly against his chest. His touch made me forget everything around me and for just a moment it made me feel a lot better. Until he let go of me and the reality was crashing down on me again. How he did this with just one touch was beyond me.

I also had stopped crying by now, but Reece still mumbled, “Don’t cry!” As he let completely go of me.

With the back of my hand I wished the remaining tears away and straightened myself to ask the boy who was watching me closely a question, which had been on my mind for a while now.

“What are you actually doing here?” I asked him, wondering about his appearance.

He gave me a smile before he answered, one that was sincere and comforting.

“Did you forget about the meeting? You still have to go,” he reminded me.

And I actually had to forget about it, with everything that had happened and with Nancy still being in a coma, I wasn’t so sure about going.

“Reece I can’t just leave,” I told him and he sighed at my answer.

Scratching at his face he replied. “I knew you would say something like this. I see why you don’t want to leave and it is only understandable, but this is important. My mother is also sorry about what happened with the woman from the bakery.”

“Nancy,” I corrected him and he repeated his words.

“We are sorry what happened with Nancy, but you can help her more if you go with me, instead of staying by her side,” Reece told me.

Now I was listening more carefully. There was nothing more I wanted to do than help her and not only hold her hand and watch her suffer. Nevertheless I still wondered why they knew so much about everything. So I only pressed the topic in the back of my mind for later.

“How so?” I asked him curious and with more eagerness now.

“Well, if we get to know more about you and your power, maybe we can get a clue about the person who attacked you and why he or she did it in the first place,” he answered me and I wondered if he knew something about the person beforehand.

Setting my mind I said, “Okay.”

“Really?” Reece asked me surprised, and I suppressed the laugh that was building inside of me. First, he is determined to take me with him and then he is surprised that I agree. What a boy, I thought.

“Hey, I knew I heard something,” my aunts voice suddenly cut in and I whirled around to see her walking towards us.

Shit. I totally forget about the fact that I had to tell my aunt an excuse about where I was going.

But it seemed like Reece had a plan, because he whispered. “I got this,” as he walked towards my aunt and past me.

I then watched him introducing himself. “Hello, my name is Reece Matthews and I’m a friend of Celia,” he told my aunt with one of his best smiles on his face, shaking her hand.

It felt like he was my boyfriend and was introducing himself to my parents, I thought for a secound but immediately put that thought away after a moment.

Lily glanced surprised at me, but shook his hand and answered. “Nice to meet you Reece. I’m Celia’s aunt, but you can call me Lily.”

“Okay Lily,” Reece said with a million-dollar smile and rolled my eyes about his show.

He was a bit exaggerating with his smiles though I didn’t utter a single word and just watched them.

“I’m really sorry about Nancy.” Reece then continued with a sympathetic face and Lily looked surprised that Reece knew about her and mumbled a quick thank you.

“And so I thought I could take Celia out for lunch and take her mind off everything for a moment,” he told my aunt with a glance in my direction and Lily thought for a second about it before she nodded.

With a short look at me she replied,” That is a brilliant idea.”

My eyes widened at her prompt agreement and I covered my surprise with a small smile.

With a last hug and Lily telling me to have a good time, relax a bit and that she would call me if something new happened, she walked back to Nancy’s room and left us alone.

Wow, I actually can’t believe that this worked, I thought before I glanced at Reece, who had still a smug smile on his face.

We then made our way towards Matthew enterprise; luckily with Reece car this time and Reece told me the same words from earlier. “See, I got this.”

“Not you again,” Reece groaned as we walked out of the same elevator as yesterday and were greeted with the sight of Kitty, Eric and Wyatt.

Wyatt. The guy who was able to move things with his hand like it was the easiest thing in the world. Today I looked at him more closely because I wasn’t in a rush and not distracted by his power.

He had green eyes and was about my height, maybe a bit taller and a well-build body. He was wearing black skinny jeans and a top which said. “I’m awesome”.

And as he noticed me staring at him, he winked at me, shifting his position and was now leaning on a wall instead of sitting in front of it.

But I really couldn’t react to his action, because Kitty took my attention, who was standing with Eric a few feet away from Wyatt.

“You two are late,” she said, but not in a blaming tone, more in a curious one. “But mum still didn’t show up yet, so you are good.”

“However I want to know why the two of you took so long.” Kitty wanted to know and I was really thankful for Reece next words.

“We lost track of time.”

I was relieved that I didn’t have to tell them about Nancy and that it seemed like only Reece and his mother knew about her condition because I didn’t want to talk about it at the moment.

Then there was a silence, where nobody really had to say anything and we just waited, until Eric cleared his throat and asked in interest.

“So Celia you have an extraordinary ability too,” he began, “But what is it exactly?”

Now four pairs of eyes were fixed on me, even Wyatt was watching me now and had stopped playing with his Rubik’s Cube.

But instead of answering his question, I asked him one of my own. “What is yours?”

He laughed at my question, but told me about it. “I’m really fast and strong.”

“How fast are you?” I asked and in a blink of an eye, he was standing next to me and not a few feet away next to Kitty.

“Impressive,” I said casually, but inside of me I was acting like a little kid, who couldn’t believe her eyes. I was acting a bit like Aiden when he found out about my power as we were kids.

I also admired how fast he could move his legs and he grinned at me in return.

“I know, he is amazing,” Kitty commented. “He can also carry a bus with one hand.” she told me, but was looking at Eric, who actually blushed at her words.

“That’s even more impressive.” I told him, trying to imagine Eric lifting a bus.

“And what about you Kitty?” I asked, eager to know about her power.

At my question she averted her gaze away from Eric and grinned at me. “I thought you would never going to ask.”

But instead of telling me about her extraordinary ability, she as well showed me them. The girl suddenly jumped with no trouble on top of a cupboard which was standing in the room. It tossed a bit by her weight, but remained in his position.

I looked up at her with big eyes and slowly a smile formed on my lips. Everything was so real and at the same time so surreal.

“I’m able to jump really high and climbing is one of my easiest tasks.” she told me with a proud smile as she sat down on top of the cupboard.

“A bit like a cat.” I commented and Kitty smiled brightly at me.

“You got that right. That is also the reason, why I’m called Kitty.” She explained with a glance at Reece and I followed her gaze, to see him shaking his head in amusement.

He is probably the one who gave her the nickname.

“And what is your real name?” I questioned, looking at the girl.

“Cassandra,” she answered. “But I like Kitty more,” she added, and I nodded in understanding.

I was still going to call her Kitty, because it suited her well and now that I knew the meaning behind it, it only made more sense to call her so.

“Oh and I can see in the dark,” she added, jumping with ease of the furniture and landing on her feet, without hurting herself.

“Maybe I have seven lives too, but nobody wants to check that out with me.” She said thoughtfully, with a hand on her chin.

“Kitty.” Reece interrupted in a warning tone and rolling his eyes at his sister. “We talked about that.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Kitty replied waving him away with her hand.

“And what is your power now?” the girl asked me with excitement, whipping with her feet up and down.

“You can talk about that later.” A voice suddenly interrupted, before I even had the chance to answer her as Juliette, Reece and Kitty’s mother appeared out of the elevator.

“But mum.” Kitty whined, visibly annoyed about one of her parents.

“No buts.” she answered in a strict tone and Kitty crossed her arms in front of her and pouted in protest.

“We are now going to find out more about Celia’s power in the science and technology laboratory” she continued, now looking at me.

“What do you think Celia? Are you ready?” She asked and I swear I could make out something like excitement in her voice.

Was I really ready for all of this? Hell no! But I still nodded and followed her to the laboratory.

You just couldn’t object Juliette Matthew and if I’m being honest, it was always my dream to know more about my power since I first discovered them.
