The Palace Beast

Chapter 53 - We Escaped

Ambrogio ordered his vampires to find Festus and Eux. They jumped down into the arena to look for those who had disappeared without a trace. The two vampires were scanning the battlefields for signs of Festus and Eux when the unexpected happened.

The full moon appeared again and the young man turned into a werewolf. Dragging himself up as a fully transformed werewolf, his focus was fixed on the two vampires with a crazed look in his werewolf eyes.

The two vampires quickly positioned their crossbow and fired shots after shots at the werewolf but they failed to hit him. The werewolf rushed the two vampires and thorn them to death by ripping out their hearts and pulling out their heads off their necks. Screams of terror were heard from the crowd who stared at the werewolf's terrifying claws and fangs which now glistened with fresh vampires' blood. It seemed the blood had quickened the werewolf, which suddenly grew larger in size with much muscle than he looked before.

"This werewolf has gone into blood fest. It's all because of those two filthy humans and trolls!" Ambrogio exclaimed in anger.

The crowds began to yell calling on Ambrogio to do something. One of the vampires of a high rank from Ambrogio's clan turned towards Ambrogio with a concerned expression on his face. "Do something! This werewolf has gone rogue. If you don't kill the werewolf now, it might turn and charge towards the crowd."

"I understand your fear and how we vampires feel on the full moon but you have to have faith in me. No harm shall come to you as long as I am here with you." Ambrogio turned towards his guards and ordered the archers to load the special silver-tipped darts into their crossbows and kill the werewolf. The archers without hesitation loaded their crossbows and aim at the beast. To their great dismay, the werewolf hid behind a rock that was seated at the center of the arena. The silver-tipped darts could not get to the werewolf.

Ambrogio's archers consisted of elves who didn't have any strong skills against werewolves. He knew he had to call for reinforcements or the werewolf will end up tearing everyone apart. The werewolf stepped out from behind the rock and glared at the crowd with rage and let out a terrifying howl which shivers down their spines.

"This werewolf will attack the crowd. We need to get everyone out of here!" Ambrogio cried out.

The werewolf was about to charge into the crowd when suddenly it let out of anguished cry. Blood started oozing from its back as it howled in pain.

One of the archers pointed towards the back of the werewolf and yelled, "There are here!"

Festus was hidden at the back of the werewolf which has many hairs at the back making it hard for anyone to see. The werewolf was full of hairs all over that anyone can easily be hidden by the hair without a constant gaze at the werewolf. Festus held a bloody silver dagger in his palm, with which he had stabbed the werewolf's back. The werewolf started shaking in agony. Just as the werewolf was about to fall, Festus and Eux managed to jump off its back. The werewolf started foaming and breading and soon slumped dead on the ground.

The crowd all watched in disbelief as the two walked away unscathed while the werewolf died in front of their eyes. Festus and Eux had managed to achieve a feat that no human or troll could ever think of even in their dreams. "This is not possible. How could a frail human and a fearful troll slay a werewolf?" Ambrogio appeared to be in a state of complete shock. He never expected Festus and Eux to kill the werewolf. The werewolf has cost him, thirty human slaves. He had lost not just his coin but also two of his highly trained elves guards in the span of a single night.

The high-ranking vampire standing beside Ambrogio whose name was Gad sent his guards to fetch Festus and Eux from the arena. He wanted to speak with them in person.

As Festus and Eux approached Gad, one of his servants came forward to greet them.

"You now stand in the presence of a noble vampire, Gad the ruler and walker of the night." He announced.

Festus had seen Ambrogio's servants and slave bow before him. He doesn't want to offend a vampire after his victory. He immediately bowed before Gad in reverence. Eux too decided to follow his example.

Gad looked amused at Festus and Eux's gesture. He addressed Festus and Eux in a mocking tone, "People who want to respect me don't bow but kneel before me. It seems either you're an ignorant fool or a stranger around here." Immediately, Festus kelt before him at once dragging Eux by the hand to keel too. "It is true, I am a stranger. I am not from here and I have not been to this place before."

"How did you two manage to slay the werewolf?" There was a bubbling curiousness in Gad's voice. It's hard for a vampire to kill a werewolf during the full moon not to talk of a human and a troll. Vampires are were known for their rivals against the werewolves and have many skills in killing them. But during the full moon, werewolves are stronger and feared the more. Gad had never killed a werewolf during the full moon or let alone seen a human or other creature kill a werewolf during the full moon.

"I should be thanking Eux for the victory. He had told me before now that he could use a special skill once every day to become invisible for a few minutes. When the werewolf charged towards us, Eux used his skill and turned us invisible. We managed to dodge its attack at the last moment. When the enraged werewolf was focused on the crowd, I climbed its back and stabbed it with the silver dagger stained in wolfsbane."
