Chapter 47 - Battlefield
A light breeze carried fluffy white clouds that drifted lazily across the blue sky. The kingdoms of Maxis and Wex engaged in death-defying combat in an open field, or open area of level terrain. Wex was charging at them with his sword fist, and Maxis was losing the fight. The Maxis soldiers were besieged by a barrage of spears and arrows.
"Shield wall!" Gerald echoed. The soldiers quickly used their shields and created a wall of defense but the Wex soldiers never gave up. They saw that as a means to attack with all their might and power.
Suddenly a bright light shuns out of the ground and blasted all the soldiers of the Wex with a fire blast. The fire consumed the soldiers of Wex and their horses leaving no survivor. It was a mystery before the soldiers of Maxis as Gerald and his men stared down at the burning bodies of the soldiers. "This is sorcery," said one of the soldiers of Maxis.
"Nah... I won't say that."
They all turned to look for the one that just spoke and suddenly Kyle appeared from a cloud of thick red smoke and stood before the entire army of Maxis. "Are you a god?" Gerald asked with curiosity. "Hahaha!" Kyle laughed out loud with his eyes fixed on Gerald.
He then makes his way to Gerald but Gerald started drawing back in fear. "I am not here to hurt you. The battle is won, go back to your kingdom and announce your victory."
Gerald doesn't know what to think of or what to say. He was curious about the mysterious man that consumed the entire army of Wex with a fire blast. He has never in his life as a soldier witnessed such on the battlefield, neither has he witnessed such sorcery. His men stared in total surprise at the mysterious being.
"Please, give us answers that we will tell our princess what happened here."
For a moment Gerald was able to embrace himself and stood before Kyle. Displaying his red demon eyes, Kyle smiled, "Your princess will understand when you just tell her what you saw."
Gerald became disappointed with the response of Kyle. He expected a plain answer. He had no idea of who he is or what he was talking about. He just wants answers that he could take to the princess. But Kyle denied him of the answer. Snapping his fingers, Kyle disappeared into a thick red smoke leaving the army of Maxis startled.
"This is sorcery," they said and began murmuring amongst themselves.
Staring at his men, Gerald said, "This is beyond sorcery. Ready the horses, we are going home."

Sax Village The ground was covered in long shadows by the evening sun. The sky was tinted warm orange by the setting sun's slanting rays. Drew sat in front of the newly gifted home to her by Queen Afi. Standing at the edges of the oak-tree- built wooden house were the guards ordered by the queen to keep him safe. As instructed by Queen Afi, they were keeping an eye on him. However, the villagers had already had enough of having a traitor residing among them. They gathered in their numbers and have the house surrounded forcing Drew to run inside. The guards attempted to calm the situation by invoking the name of the queen. "The queen does not rule over us," said one of the angry villagers. "We are here for the traitor and if you don't step aside, we will kill you all to get to him."
The threat was so mean that the guards stared at each other in fear. "We have families. You will spare us."
"If you walk away now, we will spare you. And you have to tell the queen that if she sides with a traitor, her own end will come soon."
The message is clear. The guards don't want to get involved in these affairs. Some of the guards recently got married and the law of the land forbids them to engage in any royal duties as guards until after their honeymoon that will last for a year. But the queen forced them into duties separating them from their new wives. Some of them however have children they take care of and none amongst the guards wants to lose their lives for the sake of a traitor. They calmly stepped aside and walked away.
As they got to the entrance of Sax village, one of the guards broke the silence. "What do we tell the queen? She will pour out her anger on us if she finds out that we walked away without any fight."
"The princess will protect us if we go to her and make this known to her," the second guard replied.
"We better hurry up before it gets dark."
Kingdom of Wex Queen Kay was outside the castle in an open garden behind the castle. She looked up at the blanket of stars that stretched to infinity. The gentle breeze of the night was the reason why she was out. Not quite long, Isaac approaches, "My queen."
He approaches Kay and stood in front of her. He slightly bowed. His face doesn't seem nice but he looks moody. Kay was able to know he wasn't bright in his mood, "Why are you moody?" With her eyes fixed on Isaac, she wondered what would have been the problem. 'What could have gone wrong? We are winning the battle against the kingdom of Maxis.' She couldn't let her thoughts consume her as Isaac has kept mute for a while. She had to break the silence. She slowly walks closer to Isaac and gazed deeply into his eyes, "What's the matter?"
"My queen, I am afraid to break this news to you." Isaac swallowed a lump and then lifted up his head; one can tell that his eyes were filled with fear. He doesn't know if his head will be the first the queen will take for bringing bad news. Kay for the past weeks as queen of the kingdom of Wex has shown how ruthless she can be. But Isaac has no option but to voice out the news. "We have lost all our men in battle."
