The Palace Beast

Chapter 42 - Kill the Vamps

Leon, one could argue, was primed for this from birth. He had a wooden stake concealed under his sword belt when he returned to the tomb to look for his father. He didn't want to become the night's victim because he was ready for anything. Before the chief maiden could drain the king, he staked her from behind with the wooden stake.

She unhands the king right away and collapses to the ground, the stake still in her. When the other maidens saw this, they began to move toward them, fangs bared. "Grab a wooden stake," Leon yelled.

The sight startled a few guards who had heard the screams as well. They've been observing from the entrance to the quarters. They observed how the lead maiden was pierced and quickly caught fire. Even though they were more afraid, they were unable to flee from their king in the face of conflict. They had a wooden spare with them when Leon yelled, "Grab a wooden stake," and they dashed in brandishing their wooden spear. There are four of them.

Three of them broke their spears, giving Gerald and Leon, the king, the other half. They were staked through the hearts before the maidens could reach them. Twelve other maidens ran away in an attempt to escape and avoid harm. "Should we pursue them?" one of the guards asked the king.

"That won't be necessary this night. We will advance against them by morning when the sun will rise."

"I can applaud you for that," said a voice from the dark corner of the alley leading to the wooden houses of the maidens.

Without hesitation, they swiftly turned facing the direction of the voice. "Who are you? Show yourself," the king ordered.

Slowly a tall man was seen walking out from the dark corner. He was beardless and had blonde hair. His eyes were naturally golden. His skin looked pale and range in appearance from grotesque. He smiled down at them displaying his canine teeth that are extra pointy and extra sharp.

"Oh no, he's a vampire," Gerald cried out.

Making his way to them. "Of course I am a vampire, my name is Ambrogio and you people just killed my new children."

"Don't come any closer to the king," said one of the guards as he pulled out his sword pointing it towards Ambrogio.

"You come to me bearing sword?" He laughed out loud looking down on the guard.

Leon boldly makes his way to Ambrogio. "I know about you. What did you do to my father and where is he?"

"I gave him the gift of immortality and I can give you such gift too," Ambrogio replied with a smile.

"Perish with your gift."

Leon raised half of the wooden spear given to him by one of the guards to stake Ambrogio through the heart. Ambrogio slap slammed him to the wooden wall.

As the guards, the king, and Gerald advanced against him at once, he moved faster than their eyes can see. They all turned around continuously in search of him, he was gone. "Where is he?" asked the king.

The dawn sky was pink in the morning light, a remnant of the long night that Ambrogio had spent being searched. Sunlight's golden fingers illuminated the scene. Returning to his chamber, the king leaves. Upon arriving at the palace's main entrance, a guard rushed over to him and exclaimed, "My king!"

The king's attention was caught as he swiftly turned. "Is there any news about Ambrogio?" he asked with his eyes fixed on the guard.

The guard bowed before the king and then replied with his head slightly lowered. "No my king, but I bring news from the kingdom of Wex. King Charles is dead."
