The Pack Slut (The Fae Omegas Standalone Series Book 1)

Chapter 7

Thomas

“Never talk about Imogen like that!” I growled at Nate.

Nate turned to stand opposite me with a challenging glare. “What are you going to do about it? She’s a member of my pack, not yours.”

“Well, not for long, because I’m taking her with me when I leave,” I said, intending to do just that.

In fact, my true purpose for coming to the Paxon pack on the behest of the Supernatural Council was to retrieve the daughter of a late retired member of the Supernatural Council, Janice Anyon. And it was a pleasant surprise that Imogen, the girl I met on my first morning in the Paxon pack territory, turned out to be Janice’s daughter.

Even if extracting Imogen from the Paxon pack wasn’t part of my assignment, I would have still extracted her for many reasons.

The first reason was the special nature of her existence. The second was her importance to me. And the third was that no one deserved to live the way Imogen had been living in the Paxon pack.

After seeing Imogen in all the vulnerable situations I’d seen her, I knew she had been hiding her problems from her Alpha and her pack. And from what I heard of her nightmare that night, I knew without a doubt that her secrets were potent. Carrying a secret like that was probably eating her up from the inside.

Her pack members talking to her and treating her the way the Alpha’s son and his ‘group’ were treating her must have made the entire situation much more unbearable.

In the little time I had spent trying to get her to talk to me about her past and her skilled avoidance, I knew how ashamed she was of what had been done to her. The pack also calling her “a pack slut”, whatever nonsense slang that was, was definitely not helping.

I felt like shaking the goddamn possessive Alpha in front of me so he could see beyond the tough exterior Imogen had wrapped herself in. So he could see the vulnerability in her eyes and the way she subconsciously flinched whenever someone unfamiliar moved too close to her.

“You can’t do that! She’s mine.” Nate glared.

“Really? Yours as in your pack member or yours as in something else? You are way too possessive towards a mere pack member, don’t you think? It’s so ridiculous how blind you are to what that girl is going through,” I growled.

I felt thoroughly annoyed at the prospect of how useless Nathan would be as pack Alpha if he couldn’t learn to see beneath the surface.

With a glare of utter disgust for the Alpha-to-be and his ‘group’, out of whom only one of them, the Luke guy, looked remorseful, I walked away in search of Imogen.

Even though Imogen was scentless, her “scentlessness” was also a scent, and I was fairly familiar with it, so I followed it to the parking lot. Seeing that her car was no longer in the parking lot and knowing that she must have driven away, I hoped she had gone back to my temporary house. But I also knew from my understanding of her these past few weeks that she would definitely not go there.

With a sigh, I got into my car, hoping she didn’t get into any trouble or hurt herself trying to numb her pain.
