I couldn’t sleep a wink.

Events, images, and memories were mixing and whirling in my head to the point where everything blended into a big, jumbled mess. One thought chased after the other, and my mind couldn’t catch up with all the information it had been flooded with. As a result, I was now sporting a pounding headache that was hammering against my temples in the rhythm of my beating heart.

I could forget about slumbering anytime soon.

Though, frankly, I shouldn’t be that surprised my beauty sleep was consigned to oblivion. After all, I had learned I was a daughter of notorious criminals - cold-blooded murderers at that - who had hunted and killed the very species I became. And it was all because of dad.

Karma was truly a bitch.

No wonder Jack wanted our identity hidden. I doubted the Pack would be too welcoming if they learned Mikey and I were the kids of the infamous pair of Hunters. It could cause some real drama at one point or another, and Jack would be stupid to overlook it.

It made my stomach churn.

More so because now the Alpha insisted on officially introducing me to all those people my parents had caused grief. He planned my initiation at the upcoming full moon celebrations - which happened to be in a week - at the so-called Pack Run. Apparently, it was a huge thing when a female decided to join the Pack and a good excuse for a celebration. One, I would much rather worm out of altogether.

And don’t let me start on the whole mate bullshit. I still didn’t even begin to wrap my head around the notion, especially since I more or less got the gist.

It was fucking scary.

For one, because, however much I tried, I couldn’t deny the strange attraction I felt towards Louis. When I really, and I mean really, thought about it, I always seemed to seek out Louis’ mercury silver eyes, his silent comfort, his quick smiles. The wolf part of me demanded his nearness so much it was driving me mad.

Just like now.

The mere thought of the older of the Everton brothers - his strong warm hands on my hips, his soft, lush lips on mine, his intoxicating scent - caused the wetness to pool between my legs.

I let out a soft groan as I shifted uncomfortably in my bed, gently, so as to not wake up Mikey, whose small arm was wrapped around my middle. I gazed out of the window at the silver moon shimmering behind the dark, slender shades of pines. Its soft glow beaconed me outside, stirring the wolf inside me. Its presence became more prominent in my brain, and the wicked creature forced the images of Louis behind my eyes.

More dampness moistened my underwear.

I stifled a growl, slowly getting out of bed and tiptoeing towards the doors. I didn’t want to disturb Mikey’s slumber. He needed his rest after the excitement of the day, and, honestly, so did I. But I couldn’t do that when the bloody wolf made me so damn hot and bothered I found it hard to focus on anything else.

I headed to the kitchen, hoping the glass of cold water would cool me down. Silently as a wraith, I made my way towards the sink and took a dry glass from a rake. I filled it, gulped all its contents in one go, then refilled it again because, obviously, one cup wasn’t nearly enough to quench the fire in my blood.

Maybe I should just go with it and place my head under the damn tap.

I was actually entertaining the idea when a sudden, very familiar melodic voice made me jump.

“Can’t sleep?“

I whirled on my heel with a soft yip, almost dropping the godsdamn glass on the floor. I managed to catch it in time, but its contents sloshed on the front of my oversized Star Wars t-shirt, soaking it enough it got plastered to my chest. But I didn’t mind that. I was suddenly too interested in Louis.

He was sitting on the couch only in the dark blue sweatpants that hung so low on his hips that I could see the prominent V of his abdomen. His arms were spread lazily against the couch rest, making his biceps taut. The light silver of his irises was gleaming in the darkness, hidden partially behind the fringe that fell messily on his forehead, and a soft smirk was tugging at his lips.

He looked gorgeous. Dangerously so.

“Jesus, Louis. A little notice could do!” I whispered-yelled, placing my outstretched hand on my racing heart.

Louis seemed to drink the movement in as he slowly stood up.

“It was actually me doing just that,” Came his smart-ass comeback as he slowly crept towards me, rounding me like a predator its prey.

“You’ve still startled me. I even spilled some water on my t-shirt!” I protested.

It was meant to be snarky but came out playfully and drew Louis’ attention back to my bra-less chest. His eyes flared as his wolf made his presence known. A strange shiver of excitement shook my body as my instinct took over.

I sidestepped Louis, slipping just out of his grasp when he attempted to cage me between his arms. I stopped by the fridge and leaned my side against its cool surface, crossing my arms over my chest and, thus, flaunting my bosom for Louis to see.

What. The. Hell. Was I actually doing?

“I can’t see how’s that concerning,” Louis shrugged.

“Sure you don’t,” I snorted, rolling my eyes, and then took a quick step back while he again moved forward. “So, what’s up with you? Why can’t you sleep?”

“Something was keeping me up,” Louis answered vaguely, watching me with his smoldering eyes as I snaked around him, continuing with our cat and mouse play. I would lie if I said I didn’t enjoy our little game as I headed back to the sink swaying my hips a tad bit more than usual.

“Bummer,” I shrugged innocently, giving Louis my back as I rinsed the glass and placed it on the rack to dry.

If I was using my brain, instead of giving in to the weird urges inside me, I would know exposing my back to the hunting werewolf was not the smartest thing to do. But I wasn’t. So as soon as I turned around to wish Louis good night, he was suddenly in front of me, right where he wanted me from the start - caged in between his arms, firmly placed on the counter.

“Gotcha,” his minty breath fanned my face as a smug smile curved the side of his face.

I shivered as a rush of anticipation shook my body. I unintentionally licked my lips.

“Yeah, you wi-,” I didn’t finish.

Suddenly, Louis’ mouth was on mine, his tongue urging me to let him in. I did, more than eagerly, letting the fire set my body ablaze as the beast took over. My hands instantly went to Louis’ hair, softly tugging at it as my fingers gently raked his scalp. He moaned aloud in my mouth, and I felt satisfaction at the thought that I was the one evoking such sounds from his mouth.

It made me feel feminine. It made me feel confident and strong.

The thought was all but forgotten when Louis’ hands lifted me up, and my butt hit the counter. I immediately wrapped my legs around Louis’ waist and pulled him even closer. My core pounded into the prominent bulge of his pants, which elicited a husky grumble from both him and me. Wetness flooded my underwear, marking the air with the potent smell of my lust.

Louis growled against my lips in a frenzy, and his teeth pulled at my bottom lip, drawing a bit of my blood that he quickly licked clean.

Fireworks erupted behind my closed lids.

Oh God, what was all that feeling?

Louis’ mouth started to make its way to my right ear. Then just as hungrily began to devour my neck, moving down towards the collarbone all the while alternating between kissing, sucking, and nicking my skin. More moans left my mouth as I became drunken on those kisses, drunken on Louis’ masculine smell, on the lust that filled the air around me...

Louis bit gently on the soft spot in the crook between my neck and shoulder, and I gasped.

“Mine,” he whispered huskily.

Mine, I almost replied back, driven by the sudden urge that nearly made me utter the word aloud.

But before I could, I clamped my mouth shut and fluttered my eyelids wide open as I finally realized what I was doing.

And with whom.

Without any warning, I pushed Louis back with all my might. Surprised, he stumbled back and leveled me with his light silver eyes as I slipped past him and hurried towards my room - betrood red and flushed all over.
