The Pack - On the Run

Chapter Sixteen

~ LOUIS ~

Louis had never meant to kiss Josie like that.

Well, he had actually dreamt of kissing her and doing other - not exactly decent - things to her a couple of times, but he had never intended to kiss her so... roughly. Not the first time round anyway. Nipping, sucking, and teeth weren’t supposed to be involved. He simply wanted to comfort her. Needed to even. He had to erase all those intense, dark emotions looping around Josie’s heart and brain, pushing her to the brink of no return, where her wolf would surely but completely take over. He couldn’t let that happen; not now, not during the upcoming full moon. Not ever.

She couldn’t turn feral.

So he just... kissed her. It was meant to be completely innocent. But his wolf, well, he had a mind of his own. And cravings - needy little bastard.

So as soon as their lips touched, the flame inside Louis suddenly ignited, or rather, exploded like a raging firestorm, running hot in his veins, consuming him from within, devouring his whole being. His wolf howled in pleasure, wanting to claim Josie there and then. Louis barely stopped himself, somehow managing to shut off the beast before they did something stupid - like mark the girl even before she had changed.

But Louis couldn’t stop mauling her lips. Nor squeezing her hip so hard he knew he was probably bruising her - though truthfully, she didn’t seem to mind.

He just... couldn’t put an end to it. Not when Josie responded to him so... eagerly. Not when she roughly rumpled his black t-shirt in her hands, pulling him even closer, ignoring the threatening whines of the seams which were about to break. He could feel Josie’s nails piercing the material of the clothing and his skin. They drew blood - but he just didn’t much care at that point.

Josie bit his lower lip, sucking it hard in her mouth, and he growled low in his throat. She then slithered her tongue inside him, battling her way with his. He knew what her wolf was trying to do - she wanted to assert her dominance, challenge his position, check if he was worthy of her time. Of her. And he gladly responded. He pulled her hair a bit, angling her head so he could deepen the kiss, taking control of it, guiding her tongue where he wanted it to be, doing things that evoked another one of those soft little moans of hers.

The bulge in his pants became painfully prominent, uncomfortable. He drove his hips into Josie’s thigh, hoping it would fix his pulsing problem. It didn’t. In fact, it became worse. So much worse.

Josie responded immediately to his thurst. The noise of her pleasure was again caught by his mouth as the scent of her arousal overrode his senses, intoxicating him, inviting him...

He somehow managed to rip his lips away and place his forehead on hers - but his hand never ceased to cup the back of her head possessively, his other one gripping her hip while his breath left his mouth in erratic shallow pants.

He opened his eyes, looking straight into Josie’s - bright gold, gleaming, wolf-like... She was short of breath, just like him, and the red that flushed her face molded with the freckles that generously dotted her straight nose and usually pale cheeks.

They weren’t pale now.

Josie looked gorgeous, and her wolf was calling to Louis’ soul. He could feel the mate bond snap around his heart like a death sentence. He was doomed.

What had he done?

He gulped, closing his eyes, trying to centre himself in the present.

“W-why?” He caught Josie’s hoarse, uncertain voice. “Why did you do that?”

He opened his eyes, once more meeting hers - hazel now. He wanted to explain, but he doubted she was ready for the until the death do us part talk, or rather, even the death shall not part us. So he went for the cocky instead as he smirked and shrugged his one arm.

“Why not?” Louis made himself step away. One painful step back. Then another as the bond wound tighter around his soul. The scourge of God. He shoved his hands in the pockets of his green cargo pants, trying to hide how they trembled. “You’ve got yourself worked up. It seemed like a good idea at that time.”

God only knew how stupid it was, though. Josie might not survive her first shift. There was a 70% chance she wouldn’t, which meant he would follow shortly after her. He basically signed his own death warrant with that kiss.

Fuck.

“B-But. You bearly know me!” Josie exclaimed as she started pacing back and forth. “And I bearly know you,” she added as she ran her hand through her slightly disheveled, chestnut waves, confused. Frustrated at him, probably at herself that she had thoroughly liked that kiss.

“So what? Why does it matter? You’ve enjoyed it, I’ve enjoyed it. It’s a win-win,” Louis flashed her with another grin that made her blush turn crimson and crawl down her neck. He liked that colour on her. It did strange things to his cock. “Plus, I have nothing against getting to know you better.” he winked, enjoying how her heart suddenly skipped a beat.

“You know what, Louis? I think you’re right. I’ve had enough excitement for one day,” The girl decided abruptly, whirling on her heel. “Thanks for saving my life and all but just... leave.”

She was clearly dismissing him. It didn’t phase him one bit as she clearly had to put some effort into it. His wolf was content enough with that, so Louis decided he would let Josie have her way - for now.

But he wouldn't be a dominant male if he hadn't done something to stri things up a bit between them. He smiled the smile he knew was predatory and promising, aimed to draw Josie's wolf out again. She didn't disappoint rising to his challenge - the girl's eyes flashed amber taking on a wicked glint as the smell of her arousal filled the room again.

His wolf yowled in his head again.

Oh, Josie was a true beast.

“Sure thing, Jo,” Louis said unbothered as he headed for the doors, smug. “I’ll let myself out.”

The game was on.

~ JOSIE ~

I blinked furiously, exhaling a breath I didn’t know I was holding and clumped heavily on the toilet lid.

Shit, shit, shit~!

I kissed Louis. Well, basically, he kissed me, but I responded back and eagerly, and I even moaned, and, oh God, why did I have to effing moan?!

I closed my eyes, feeling mortification crawling down my skin like molten lava. I was so confused I didn’t know what to do anymore. First my parents, then the kidnapping, and now this...

I let out a loud breath that made some of my hair fly up and away from my forehead. Maybe I needed a shrink. Or a bottle of vodka. Make it two.

I rubbed my face with my uninjured hand.

At least the kiss worked as a distraction. At least I found out that Louis was interested, maybe even felt the same weird pull, the same fire that was burning inside me when our lips touched...

I needed to stop thinking about it. We couldn’t happen. I didn’t want us to happen. I had to grab Mikey and run for hills, where nobody could find us, especially those hunters.

Jesus.

I stood up and splashed my face with cold water. I had to talk to Rosalynd. She seemed to be the only one willing to tell me anything. And I needed to understand what the hell was going on with me, with those hunters, my parents, and Louis. I hated being in the blue.

I gripped the sink and looked at myself in the mirror, determined.
