The Otherside: Jay McClayn: This Is High School (Book 1)

Chapter 2

The next day we performed at state. I was avoiding Jason due to the fear his statement caused me. We were one of the first to perform so we got to watch other bands perform after us and that was when, for the first time, I saw something on the field. It was a dark scary looking creature. It looked like it was ten feet tall, with claws that were a foot long. It almost looked human if it weren’t so big… and had claws…. and if it wasn’t a dark grey color. I asked Alex if he saw it and he said no, but I was sure it was there. It knocked a couple of marchers down. I knew I wasn’t crazy; I had to get an answer. I ran to find Jason and I found him in another section of the stands. I tried to tell him what I saw, but he was motionless. Then I looked down at the field and saw him fighting it off with a sword, but his body was still behind me. Then a flash came to me and I saw a vision.

Jason was fighting some people off with a sword again and was telling me to go, but for some reason in that vision I could feel my emotions didn’t want me to go and leave him. Then the next thing I know I woke up in Jason’s arms. We weren’t in the stands we were in the parking lot by the bus. I guess he said to anyone who noticed I passed out, that he would take care of me. I felt butterflies again and jumped.

“Jason!” I said wide eyed and a little scared.

“Sorry, you had to see that. I haven’t seen an a-wall demon in a while. Normally they just talk to people and mess with them.”

“No, not that. You were right, I think.” I paused for a second. “I slightly grasp that there is another world, but why did you have to come to me? Why did I run away and who am I exactly? I’m so confused…” I started to rambling.

He put a finger to my lips. “Shhh… One question at a time. You are Princess Jamie Ally Hart. You ran away because there was a hostile takeover of your kingdom, so you came here.”

I broke in “I don’t understand why I don’t remember any of this?”

Jason shook his head. “I’m guessing you lost your memory somehow.” I tried asking questions again but he quickly put his finger over my lips again. “I will teach you in time and you will get your memory back. Only you have the power to take back your kingdom and make things right again.”

I nodded and we began to head back to the stands. I tried to act like nothing just happened. Alex saw us when we reached the stands and pulled me aside.

“Can I talk to her ALONE.” He said to Jason.

“Sure.” Jason backed off and watched from a distance.

“What the heck is going on? What happened to you? Why is he sticking so close to you? Did you guys kiss?!?” Alex started going off, I think he was a little jealous because I know deep down he likes me.

“Chill!” I yelled at him. I then lowered my voice. “You need to calm down now.” I then paused. I can’t really tell him what happened. I had to lie… to my best friend. “Nothing big I just passed out because I was dehydrated. Jason noticed it was dehydration that is why he took me to get some water. He’s just worried about me.”

He didn’t buy my lie. “I know you’re lying Jay. I know when you’re lying.” I looked down. “I wish you could tell me the truth. You kissed him didn’t you?”

I sighed and looked back up. “Well, you wouldn’t believe me, and no we did not kiss. I will talk to you later, okay?” I started to walk away when he grabbed my arm and turned me around and held my shoulders and made me stare in his eyes.

“I will believe you because I trust you. I just want you to be careful okay? I don’t fully trust him.” I nodded my head.

“I will be fine, I know what I’m doing.” I broke from his grip. “I will text you later, okay?” I said as walked back to Jason before he could give an answer.

I was not in the mood for an argument. I know Jason could tell I was upset. He put his arm around me. “Will you be okay?”

I looked up at him and then down at the ground. “Yeah, I’ll be fine.”

It was starting to get dark. He walked with me back to the bus; I managed to get to sit next to him. I don’t remember much of the bus ride I fell asleep but I do remember him waking me up, and my head was on his shoulder.

“Jay, you need to wake up. We are back at the school.” It was 3 in the morning. I looked up at him half asleep.

“I’m sorry. I fell asleep on you.” He stroked my head.

“It’s fine princess you needed your sleep. You’ve had a long day.”

We started to get off the bus and all of us band geeks started putting the big instruments and the props away. Then we were able to gather our own things and when all that was done, our band director dismissed us. Jason and I sat outside waiting for my dad to pick me up. I saw Alex walk out and leave, I don’t think he notice Jason and I sitting near the wall. There wasn’t much talk between Jason and I. There was nothing to say until we could meet in private. My dad eventually pulled up in his black ford truck and I said my goodbye to Jason and got in. When I finally got home, I put my things away, and then slowly slipped into bed and passed out.
