The Otherside: Alice: Tough Decisions (Book 6)

Chapter 10

Sunday evening, Grandpa Harrison came back with a cure and Duncan was back to being up and human. Before we took him home though, I had a chat with him. I tried to get him to read the book, but he said he still wanted to be with me no matter what. We still want it to be hushed, hushed around the school for right now. I think we are still in what you can call a trial relationship period. Where I am trying to figure out if this is what I want or not.

December finally rolled around. Winter band formal was coming up. Duncan and I were together but attending solo. I chose a long, light pink Grecian style dress and put my long hair in a bun. When I walked down the stairs Ace did his normal face seeing me dressed up, but I didn’t expect Trey to do it as well. When we first met, I was dressed up. Does he really love me? Why? Aaron was already with Rachel at her house. He walked over there and her mom took them. Grandma Christina and Grandpa Harrison took us.

We all walked in alone, Rachel, Aaron and Duncan were already there. We went over and greeted Aaron and Rachel. Only a moment’s glance into each other’s eyes was the greeting Duncan and I shared. Ace and Trey both had black suits, but Trey had a black tie and Ace had a red tie. I was guessing they wanted girls to tell them apart easier.

That night I was dancing with Trey and Ace. They of course got pulled away with other girls from time to time. I noticed Duncan with a lot of girls. I sat down with a sigh and averted my jealous eyes to Trey and Ace, but I couldn’t help looking back. Duncan was making out with another girl. Once the song was over with, so was their makeout session. Ace and Trey were coming over to me, but I walked right past them to Duncan. I grabbed his arm and pulled him into the vacant hall I first met Trey in.

“Why were you kissing that girl when you are with me?” I said as I let go of his arm.

“Am I Alice? You have a funny way of showing it. Everyone thinks I am single and I’m a desirable guy, Alice. ”

“If you loved me and wanted to be with me, why hurt me like this?”

“Alice, I really do love you. There is no reason for us to be a secret anymore.”

“So every time you are not happy with this relationship, you are going to cheat on me?” There was a slight pause. I stopped him from answering. “Why do you love me?”

“Are you seriously asking me that?”

“Yes.”

“Uh, well, I like hanging out with you. You are fun to be around. I love hearing about you...” there was a pause. “And the anime nights are great, plus your not a bad kisser...”

I put a finger over his lips to cut him off. Ace’s words rang in my head. “Alice, when are you going to realize that Duncan does not love you? He loves the thought of you.” A tear rolled down my cheek. My hand dropped from his mouth.

“Duncan, you don’t love me; you love the thought of me, the adventure my life brings.”

“No, don’t say that.”

“It’s true.”

He pushed me up against the wall and kissed me passionately, but it felt so hollow.

“Goodbye, Duncan. We can’t keep fooling ourselves any longer.”

His fist hit the wall, and then he stormed off. After he left, I slid down on the wall till I sat on the floor. I broke down into tears.
