Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Martha Connolly stopped the two boys who had just gone backstage. “What happened? Did Alex fall asleep inside? She almost messed up the performance!”
One of the thin boys with glasses said, “Maybe. We have to wake her up quickly. She still needs to present the prize later!”
Martha paused for a while and grabbed a comer of the glass bed. “I’ll help you push the props. I’ll help you wake her up later.”
“Alright!”
Thus, Martha followed the two boys who tried to move the glass bed into the storage room.
The two thanked Martha and left. After all, it wasn’t appropriate for them to wake Alexandra Doherty up.
After they left, Martha stared at the lid that was covered with a red cloth. She lifted one side and saw that Alexandra was still sleeping.
She smiled evilly and said, “Have a good sleep, Alexandra Doherty! The drug isn’t strong enough. You’ll probably wake up after the event.”
With that, she slammed the red cloth down and turned to leave the storage room.
She even locked the door of the storage room.
By the time Martha returned to her seat, Kelly Gilligan’s solo was about to begin.
When Kelly’s and her program’s names appeared on the big screen, the entire venue fell silent.
At the same time, the voting and scoring segment had already begun. After Kelly’s performance ended, the top three of the most popular performance would be announced.
Each audience had a remote–controlled scorer in their hands.
15 buttons on the scorer corresponded to the 15 programs.
The voting was simple. Everyone was handed a program list. In the last few minutes, they only needed to press the corresponding number key to vote for a specific program.
Kelly Gilligan’s performance was the 15th.
William Jolston’s magic show was the 14th,
While William was on stage, many people had already made their choices.
Julian Ranford glanced at the name of the piano piece and looked at the stage.
When the melody of “The Lost Yellow” sounded from the piano, the entire venue fell silent.
Most people had heard of this song before. It was the main title piece in pianist Veronica Doherty’s latest album.
Kelly was a superb pianist. Played by her nimble fingers, the melody was as smooth as flowing water.
Julian closed his eyes and listened. Suddenly, he opened his eyes.
He felt the melody sounded familiar. It was not because he had heard Veronica’s original piece, but because of its style.
He kept having the same feeling the more he listened,
Its melody and rhythm were very similar to Yoya’s.
Although he had only listened to Yoya’s performance for a few minutes, he had the only CD that Yoya had ever released. He had listened to that CD piece countless times.
Yoya’s style is different from that of other pianists.
Warm, innocent, brilliant, and unrestrained.
Unparalleled.
It was unique.
Her style was not something that others could imitate.
It was also something that some people disdained learning from.
And concurrently, the piece played by Kelly, “The Lost Yellow“, was very similar to Yoya’s style.
Julian took out his phone and searched.
He discovered that “The Lost Yellow” was the lead song on Veronica’s latest album released last year.
Originally, Alexandra was in a daze. What woke her up was not the subside of the effects of the drug, but the sound of the piano.
It was that song.
Chapter 62
It was like a curse that struck her heart and soul.
Alexandra woke up in distress. Her eyelids were so heavy that she could not lift them, and her head felt like it was being hammered. It felt torturous.
Her head hurt.
It hurt terribly.
It was as if she had fallen into the abyss, and she fell deeper and deeper as time passed.
She felt devoured and corroded.
Then Alexandra forcefully opened her eyes. She could hear her breathing.
The air was stuffy and humid.
However, she had a severe headache and felt chills all over her body.
It was dark. She couldn’t see anything.
The sound of the piano was car piercing and stirred up her emotions.
Alexandra struggled and opened her eyes. Her consciousness was still blurry, and she had no idea where she was.
She wanted to get up, but she had no strength.
Beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
Her throat was dry and she felt like she could not breathe.
Then she suddenly remembered where she was. She was inside the crystal box.
There was a switch in here. She reached for the switch handle beside her.
However, after searching for a long time, she could not find anything.
Alexandra was in so much pain that she began crying. Her head was about to explode.
Her phone… She remembered bringing her phone with her.
It took her a lot of effort to reach for her phone. After a few tries, she successfully unlocked it with her fingerprint.
Her first thought was to look for Julian.
She was going to die.
If she didn’t leave this place soon, she would die.
In the past, she always sent messages to Julian and never dared to call him, for fear of disturbing him at work.
But she couldn’t take it anymore.
She found Julian’s number on her phone and dialed it.
She held the phone beside her ear, and the ringing tone sounded.
She was still waiting for Julian to pick up her call.
No one spoke, and no one answered.
Alexandra hung up and called again.
She didn’t have the strength to type. Her hand was shaking as she held the phone.
She looked terrible. The blue light from the phone shone on her pale face and large beads of cold sweat trickled down her face.
Her phone fell from her hand and she didn’t know where it fell.
She searched for it for a long time, but she couldn’t find it.
The piano piece seemed to have reached its climax. Alexandra covered her ears with all her might. She had a feeling that her life was about to come to an end…
The audience was mesmerized.
Even Julian was shocked by Kelly’s performance.
Marco Ranford’s phone was on silent mode and he placed it on the table.
Therefore, he was oblivious that Alexandra called. He was focused on listening to the performance.
Then Kelly’s performance ended.
William and another female host went on stage, praising Kelly’s performance. They began to urge everyone to start the final voting.
Chapter 62
Soon, the scores of each program were displayed on the big screen.
Julian held the remote control in his hand and rubbed his fingers on the “15” a few times. Finally, he pressed “14”
The 14th was William and Alexandra’s show.
Marco was a smart person. He secretly saw Julian’s choice and chose the same one as him.
There was no suspense about the results of the selection.
Kelly’s performance was first, William’s team was second, and the third was a skit show.
The winners quickly went on stage again, followed by Colin McFadden from the VIP seats.
He began to make a speech.
Julian turned his head to look at the performer’s seat on the other side. He looked a few times, but he couldn’t see Alexandra anywhere.
It was a little strange.
At this moment, Marco’s low voice came from beside him. “CEO, Mrs.. Ranford called you just now. She called you two…”
Julian took his phone from him and saw two consecutive missed calls a few minutes ago. The caller ID Marco had given Alexandra was “Mrs. Ranford.”
He was frustrated. He called back at once, but no one picked up.
On stage, Colin had already invited Alexandra to present the prizes. Everyone was waiting for the school’s influential figure, Alexandra Doherty to appear again, but she was nowhere to be seen.
The audience below began to whisper.
Julian called again, but no one picked up.
Some things quickly flashed through his mind.
