Chapter 55
Kade POV
She stared at me, disgusting my revelation. It didn’t make sense to me either but I knew Gabbie inside out. It was her scent that drew me to her I wouldn’t mistake it for anything. I knew Alex was fond of her scent too. It was a matter of time before he thought the same.
“I don’t understand.”
“Neither do 1,” I replied.
“Then why did you say that?”
“Because it’s true. Both scenes reek of your scent.”
Heat rushed to her face. She moved away from me and stopped safely by the bed. She ran her fingers. through her strawberry–blonde hair. I hated coconuts but that was her natural scent I didn’t like strawberries but they would permanently remind me of the love of my life.
I wasn’t there except for that one time I swear.”
“This doesn’t look good. Now when I tell you to keep away from the scenes will you listen?”
I might have fuelled her curiosity by telling her this. She nodded though but I knew better than to believe her. My mate had a skill for getting herself into trouble.
“Theories?” she asked.
None she would like to hear. Gabbie was wolfless but what if she was crazier than the Alpha females at McGregor Academy and managed to hide her wolf from everyone and it was a bloodthirsty wolf?
I shook my head no. “This is all bizarre. Wolves aren’t known to share scents. Everyone has their own.”
“Not even relative…
“No.”
She asked.
Gabbie didn’t have other family aside from the crappy Mother who abandoned her. I embraced her before she could sit on the bed. I had to fix this the easiest thing around here is to pin it on someone who can’t defend themselves the fact that Gabbie’s used illegal blows more than once would make her a good scapegoat for this.
thought about the pendant I had taken from her. I had it locked in my drawer in the closet. If what I found out was true, then she didn’t need to get caught wearing it. It got worse if what I discovered was true then things between Gabbie and I would be close to impossible. I couldn’t imagine a life without this girl.
“Gabbie?
“Yeah?”

“Where did you get your pendant? The one with an arrow and axe.”
She lifted her head and her green eyes glimmered. She was gorgeous I couldn’t put it into words.
“My Dad left it behind. It was weird because he never took it off.”
“You still think he’s alive?”
“Doesn’t matter. He left.”
I thought he ran and Alex knew something. It’s not surprising he’s the Alpha’s son he has to know the shady shit that goes down in his pack, after a shower with my mate and dinner sent to our room. It was our room because I wouldn’t let her go back to the omega quarters.
We climbed into bed I made sure to hold on to her tight in case she snuck out. When the clock struck midnight I realized it was stupid. Gabbie wasn’t going anywhere. The damage done to my wolves couldn’t be done by a human.
I climbed out of bed and I grabbed the extra gasoline we kept in the storage room. Water would have worked fine but if I was going to destroy a scent then there was no better way, than fire. My wolf questioned me about destroying an entire crime scene for a girl.
Gabbie isn’t any girl. She’s my mate. I emptied the gasoline bottle on both scenes and pulled out my lighter. The fire would spread far before it died out. My lighter hit the ground and soon a flame was born.
I stepped back and watched the field burn, blazing the night sky. I’d send it all to hell for this girl and that was dangerous.
Gabbie had curled into a ball. I climbed into bed and held her close.
“Who could have done such a thing!” Eva bellowed as Gabbie and I descended the stairs.
She hadn’t worn her uniform she dressed in one of her petite sundresses. I didn’t like the other Alphas looking at her gorgeous legs, especially Alex. I pulled her hair aside so her mate mark was visible I gripped her hand and led her to the dining room. Most days we didn’t like to eat at the cafeteria like today when everyone knew what I had done.
“Relax, mate. The field needed a trim anyway,” Gareth said stroking Eva’s shoulder.
I’d never seen them hug much less stand so close air couldn’t pass between them.
What happened?” Gabbie asked.
1 deliberately stood behind her, flashing my wolf at the Alphas who made comments. As my mate Gabbie belonged here. Frankly, I’d like to see someone try to kick her out.
“Someone set the field on fire,” Eva responded.
“That’s awful,” Gabbie replied.

Gareth met my gaze for a second but I wasn’t in the thoon to entertain him. The fire consumed my scent but I left my lighter out there. I doubted anyone could actually tie it me but it was still evidence against me. Alex and his mate walked into the dining room. He looked pissed.
“Finding that wolf’s going to be harder now. If it hasn’t run off because of the fire, Eva said.
“That wouldn’t be bad,” Gabbie said.
Eva nodded. “I guess so.”
“We’re letting omegas in here now?” Leiah laughed, stalking towards Gabbie but my mate didn’t shiver
or stumble.
“Enough Leiah, Alex growled.
“Do not tell me what to do Alex. You’re not the Alpha of me.”
Gareth couldn’t contain his laugh but I had to. Alex would rather punch me than Gareth.
“I was just leaving Leiah. I don’t know what you put in the food anyway.” Gabbie said.
“No, you’re not. I held her in place.
“Yes, Gabbie’s eating with me and Gareth on the patio, Eva said taking her hand and pulling her away thankfully.
“Disgusting traitor, Harlow was right.” Leiah said.
Eva didn’t respond and disappeared with my mate.
“You and I need to talk,” Alex said planting something cool in my palm.
I closed my fist around the lighter.
“I don’t have anything to say?”
“You don’t want to do this here Kade.”
He was right, unfortunately. We went outside and spoke near the Sanders gym.
“We both know the wolf has Gabbie’s scent.”
“You can’t be sure Alex.”
I’ve known Gabriella longer than you. I know she smells like coconut and cream. You got rid of the
evidence.
What the hell did you expect me to do?! She’s my mate.”
“Think anyone else knows the wolf smells like Gabbie?” Alex asked.
“I’m only worried about your mate and my ex–girlfriend.”

“Come on Leiah wouldn’t-”
“You need to stop thinking she’s innocent.”
Alex grumbled and shoved his fists in his pants pockets.
“What do we do about the meeting anyway?” He asked.
“We call it even. I can handle my side and you handle yours.”
“They still get punished, you know?”
“It’s better than Gabbie getting kicked out of school.” I replied.
Alex nodded. At least we found common ground and no one was bleeding.
A gamnia in a grey shirt with a dark blue slash across it ran up to us. I couldn’t tell which pack he was from.
“Alphas, Headmistress Athena’s requesting your presence. It’s time for the trial between your packs.”
Now? It’s too early. This wasn’t a coincidence another hand was at play here.
