The Omega Best Friend

Chapter 18

Chapter 18

It had been a few weeks since Kade flashed his wolf at me. Not in a threatening way, but the effect it had on me was dangerous. Now he stood in front of me with the other alphas. I wasn’t class it was a meeting alphas had with every rank in the school. All the omegas in the school managed to fit in the ballroom. No chairs. We all stood.

Cole was next to me. We’d been hanging out a lot for the past couple of days. We didn’t want to be in the front along the perfect view of the Alpha so we reared in the middle so we would still be able to see them.

“I hope this doesn’t take long.” I whispered to Cole.

“Same. I want to show you the Shriveling Oak. Don’t worry it’s pretty romantic.”

I doubted any place called the Shriveling Oak could be classed as romantic, though just the prospect of being alone with Cole was good enough for me to go along with. Alex stood next to his psycho I mean his mate as did Kade with his mate and the line went along with Alphas beside their future Lunas. The principal was present too.

Kade’s been out of my sight since he flashed his wolf at me. I hadn’t seen him but it was like I felt when he was there. I was aware of his whereabouts the way I knew he was on the stage. It made me uncomfortable and often I found myself needing

him close.

Leiah cleared her throat, quieting down the chatter in the room.

“Omegas are supposed to be caring, soft, quiet and obedient.” Leah grounded out the last word.

Most of you though not all of you will be chosen to work in the Alpha’s house. Which is the most you scum can hope for

Athena cleared her throat. Leiah scrawled but didn’t bat a lash at her.

“Still you all follow the same rules. She spat.

“Some of the roles in the alpha’s house include keeping his bed warm at night,” Gareth smirked.

I shivered. Did he not care his mate was right next to him? The girl with short black hair stood tall with her hands folded in front of her.

“Such nonsense won’t be tolerated in the Sanders pack.” Harlow glared at us.

“What is returning are the omega rituals.” Leiah licked her lips as she said it.

Omega rituals. I know I heard something about that before, but I couldn’t remember the details. It had something to do with a sacrifice. Judging by the heavy gasps going around the room they weren’t good. Even Alex didn’t approve. He glared at his girlfriend as if he was going to pounce on her.

I looked at Cole. He sent back a grave stare.

“Henry pack will not! Be returning the omega rituals.” His voice boomed in the room, causing a spark of murmurs.

“Neither will Sanders,” Kade announced.

An Alpha I didn’t know raised his hands. It did little to quiet our Voices completely just enough for him to speak.

Although, for reasons that don’t concern you. Richardson pack will be bringing back the omega rituals.”

I caught Blair and Emery’s expressions. I swear Emery went pale Kade growled at Leiah,

“What the hell were you thinking?” He barked.

“What? They deserve to know they’re all going to die. Stupid omegas” She crossed her arms over her chest.

“Die” I gasped. I reached for Cole and he held my arms. Cole was Richardson pack.

“Don’t worry you’re safe. Henry isn’t doing this crap.”

I shook my head. “What about you?”

He laughed. “You don’t know what the omega rituals are about?”

I shook my head. Athena stood and raised her hand. The room went as silent as a grave. She glared at the alpha heirs before she addressed us

“Any concerns you have shall be sent to my office. Battle Rituals are in the coming months during that time senior amegas will have to the chance to apply for positions in the Alpha’s house. That is all Meeting dismissed.”

I sulked. That was all these guys had to do, how did they manage to screw it up? As usual, we waited for the Alphas to leave first. I caught Kade’s gaze when I was hoping to for Alex. It was as if there was a rope between us, pulling me toward him. I cut it loose. I turned back to Cole.

“What about the rituals!” Cole led the way out of the ballroom.

“Uh, look you shouldn’t worry about this. These things happened a long time ago.”

“Cole.

Fine. The rituals we to give the Alpha more kids, especially an heir. Often times it didn’t matter that the mother is an omega or anything else. After that as a sacrifice to the Luna. The omega was killed in a ceremony.”

I swallowed. That’s why he was safe.

“Like I said Gabbie you don’t have to worry about this shit. Henry isn’t doing it. It’s pretty dumb and old school if you ask

  1. me.

It didn’t stop me from running my hands up my arms. Emery was Richardson pack. She would have to live with the fear of being chosen for this for a long time. Cole captured my chin and brought me to look at him

“Hey, let’s head to the Shivering Oak”

I smiled. “Okay.”

“Gabbie.” A bark broke us apart.

Kade marched toward us like a hitman about to finish the job. I could have sworn I heard his wolf’s bark come out of his

Voice.

“Kade–Alpha Kade.” A bitter taste formed in my mouth. “Something wrong.”

He grabbed my elbow and locked it tight in his grip “I need to talk to you.”

“What?” I asked as my feet moved at the same time I was staring at Cole.

“Wait you can’t just drag her around,” Cole said.

My heart slammed forward. The last thing I needed was for Kade to kill someone.

Kade licked the base of his front teeth. “Is that so omega?” He said slowly.

“Yeah, you’re not her Alpha. Besides we’re going to the Shivering Oak.”

Chapter 18

Kade’s stare burned into the top of my head.

Shivering Oak, huh?” Kade uttered.

*If you don’t mind Alpha. We’ve got places to be.” Cole wrapped his fingers around my hand and tugged on me. Kade’s grip melted like butter.  Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

My eyes were glued to him as Cole tore me away. A tiny voice in my head questioned if he was really letting me go.
