Chapter 17 ~ Her men were safe!
It’s already been a day..and it’s barely noon! It feels like a lot of information to process. I’m in the library now.. researching wolf’s heat! And what I am finding has me in a perpetual state of ‘What The Fuck!’ Derek said he had heard about heat..and it’s the most fertile time for a she-wolf.. if she doesn’t have sex, it’s painful.. It can last up to three days, although in rare instances..can be up to a week. So…Yay!
Sadie came in and I asked if she had gone through it.. She nods, and says “Shawn was away from home when it hit.. My body was on fire.. nothing I did, seemed to help. I was so ridiculously hot! I would climb into a tub of ice..a whole tub full! And it melted within an hour.. Shawn made it back..within six hours.. but I was a squirming, burning horny mess by then! The first three hours he was home, I fucked him so hard, he swore his dick was crippled for life! And that struck me funny, as well as scared the shit out of me! Fuck my life!
I link Derek 🐺 YOU are not allowed to leave this pack..for any reason..until this heat thing has come and gone! 🐺 Okay? 🐺 Everything I have read says this is going to be a smoking fuckfest! 🐺 Okay! I’m down! Sounds like my kind of party! I laugh.. he’s such a guy!!
I get a link telling me Owen is out back, and I jump up and run out to find him..linking Derek to meet me. We arrive at the same time, and Owen flutters down to the table, so he can talk. I listen to him..then I hug him. Thanking him for the intel. After he left, I said..”Should we go to the conference room?” He nods and everyone is waiting for us.
I sit, saying “Word is..the rogues have increased by nearly two hundred. They have a camp about 75 miles to the east..and slightly south. Owen says it’s set up in almost a pack structure. No sign of Leonard yet.. but Owen is convinced there is, at least, one ranking member. The rogues seem to be following orders..and training. There has been activity around the Black Forest.. and they keep trying to enter. Of course, that isn’t possible. I sent word to the creatures to not venture past the wood line! The osprey has a family of bald eagles watching the rogue camp..then relaying the information to Owen..who, in turn, passes it to us.”
Shawn asks “It’s almost as good as having a spy in the camp.. who would ever believe this would be our lives! I’m with Monty! We should write a book!” And we all laugh.
Adele rushes in “The King! Edward is in trouble.. pinned down North.. I am not sure where…but he needs help.” We all jumped up and I ran to our room to dress..and grab weapons. As soon as I was in the yard, I whistled for Owen..told him what we needed and he flew off to the north.. we loaded up.. 100 warriors and our ranks.. headed out to the North. My window is down as we are practically flying.. I need to hear Owen’s call.
Within fifteen minutes, Owen drops his call and we stop long enough to get caught up.. Jumping into the trucks, I say “He is about twenty miles northwest… hunkered down, against a mountain face. He’s injured and trapped.. his men are fighting and he is protecting his son!” We continue the direction we are told…until we begin to hear sounds of battle. We turn off road and hit trails.. several minutes later, the trucks can go no further.. and we bail. It’s close enough to the fight and I flit to the treetops.. running the branches..I nock my bow, and let loose my first arrow, just as Derek decapitates his first enemy! And it’s ON! A wolf runs for Shawn and I fire an arrow right through his eye. I focus my attention on the wolves that have Edward and Theo cornered. I fire on one..and jump one tree closer..again, I drop another wolf and hit the next tree. I am down to five arrows… and am now directly over the King. Firing my arrows, I drop three more wolves and jump down on one..drilling my hatchet into his skull. I yank my sword and trench knife out of sheaths and leap in front of the King. I swing my sword as I spin and jab my knife.. severing a head and taking an eye… three more are facing me, but I see Derek and Shawn fighting their way to me. Not fond of fighting wolves in human form, but all my medicines are in my ruck sack and I can’t afford to be without them.
I drop into a fighting stance with my left forearm across my chest, and my knife tucked and ready for a spinout.. my sword above my head.. preparing to slash.. when Derek..rather Ambrose leaps in and snaps the neck of the wolf closest to me..he twists to the side..swiping his paw, claws out into the chest of another, ripping his heart completely out. Then, it was over…and nearly two hundred wolves lay dead..or dying. I linked to bring the injured to where I was. I can triage them out and treat them at home. The King is my priority, at the moment.
I checked Theo over..and he was fine, a few cuts and scrapes. But Edward.. he wasn’t in the best shape.. I grabbed my belladonna and alum poultices.. and packed the more serious wounds. I wrapped them in gauze…then set about stitching the ones I could.. I had him ready for transport in under twenty minutes. And we had every other casualty dressed and field treated within an hour. For the most part…we weathered well! Mountain Moon lost no one…maybe fifteen injuries.. the King lost four men.. and not one man walked away unscathed. Why he was only traveling with thirty guards is beyond me!
We made good time getting home. I immediately set to treating Edward.. the infirmary was filling rapidly. Adele came in and started working on the silvered and wolfbaned patients. My sole focus is the King. I pulled the temporary bandages off..and they had already blackened.. I irrigated the wounds for a solid ten minutes and hung a bag of plasma.. I switched from the belladonna to the Luna’s fern. It is my best bet to kill the silver infiltration. He is King! Wolfsbane will only put his wolf to sleep. After he was rebandaged, I injected him with Moon Flower extract to enhance healing and a gardenia and poppy extract to fight pain and induce sleep.
Once I was satisfied the silver was drawing out, I left him to let his thirteen year old son know he is going to be okay. I gave Theo a moon flower tea, and brought him to Derek, so we could call the Queen. She needed to know her men were safe!
