Samantha hung around outside Emily's classroom, waiting for Hazel. Lecturers passing by noticed Samantha loitering and suggested she head to class. Samantha told them she was waiting as part of a punishment, and they left her alone. While pretending to check her phone, she kept an eye out for Hazel.

After about ten minutes, Emily requested a leave of absence and headed to the toilet. Samantha quickly slipped behind a nearby pillar and followed her in once Emily had inside.

gone

Inside the toilet, Hazel was waiting. When Emily walked in, she barely acknowledged Hazel. "You called me out here. What's up? Got something to say?"

Hazel rolled her eyes internally, thinking, Of course, I have something to say. Why else would I call you out? She forced a warm smile and reached for Emily's arm. "Emily, I'm sorry about the earlier mix-up at the school lobby. I hope you can forgive me for what happened."

Forgive you?! Emily shot her a skeptical look and retorted, "Oh, so you wanted to accuse me, and now you think saying sorry will just fix everything? Are you kidding me? Or do you just enjoy making me look bad in front of everyone?

Hazel hadn't expected Emily to react like this. She softened her tone. "Emily, it wasn't really a mix-up. I thought I'd lost my diamond necklace and mistakenly blamed you. Now that I've found it, I wanted to apologize and hope you can let it go."

Emily thought, There's no way I'm forgiving you. You made me look like a thief. Do you really think a quick apology is going to fix that? Not a chance!

She scoffed, "Forgiving you isn't happening. You humiliated me way too much. Do you really think a simple apology will make up for that?"

Hazel's expression shifted as she pulled out the diamond necklace from her bag and offered it to Emily. "Look, I'm really sorry. I'd like you to have this necklace to show I mean it. What

you say?"

do

Glancing at the necklace, Emily felt a tug of temptation, but she didn't want to accept it. She worried that accepting it might give Hazel more leverage over her. After all, she wasn't about to be played.

Emily pushed the necklace back towards Hazel. Since you've found it, you keep it. I don't

need it."

Puzzled, Hazel asked, "Why? Is this necklace not good enough, or do you think it doesn't suit you?"
