The night the Rhymer went whack

Chapter 45

The greatest bond in alive-ism is that of mother and son.

In that silence before he began reacquainting himself with sound, Nick thought of his mom and how it was always just she and him. He never questioned who he was or how he came to be. Or why he was so different, so small and so isolated. He thought it may be a result of his hearing, but, regardless, he didn’t care. He knew his mom loved him the world over and he loved her just the same. She provided him with everything he ever needed, asked for and then some. He was happy and loved who he was. In that silence he realized that she must be protected from all evil and that became his new mission. So when he emerged, he ran into her arms and they both sobbed incessantly, mother and son. No words, just weeping, as Nick listened to the unified patterns of their hearts and tears dripping onto the floor.
