Chapter 10 – Quite the sight

I woke up with a start as I heard the crying and turned to see that Grayson was already up, Rosemina in his arms. I watched him, smiling as he bounced her, trying to soothe her. Usually when one twin started, so did the other so I hardly got to see Grayson be a dad, and what a sight it was. He held her so tenderly, as if he could break her but knowing he wouldn’t.

In fact, to see this tall muscular man with his kids was great. Not that Grayson was a mean type of guy, but the kids brought out a side of him I had yet to see. And watching this, watching him, it made my love grow even more for him. I watched as he danced with her and it brought back his own Alpha ceremony and our first dance.

“Oh, you’re awake.” My eyes glanced up to his and I nodded.

“I heard her, but you were already up.”

“She’s okay for the moment but do you want her?” I smiled as I shook my head and sat up, pulling my legs up and resting my chin on them.

“Watching you like this, it’s quite sexy.” Grayson merely lifted a brow at me.

“Are you joking?” I patted the spot next to me and he moved to sit down. And once he was close, I quickly captured his lips, feeling the bundle squirming in his arms.

“No, not joking. There is just something about you and being in this mode that’s hot.” That smile he was sporting turned into a smirk.

“Hot huh? Well, I’ve been called that before but not while I’ve been holding a baby before.” I rolled my eyes and he wrapped his free arm around me and both of us turned to look at our baby girl.

“Your mom said that wolves grow faster, you think these two will be any different? I mean, they are already doing things that other babies don’t do for a few more months.”

“I have every reason to believe that. Which is why I’m trying to get everything in now. These precious ones won’t be that way for very long.”

“Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of.”

“You mean them growing up too fast?” he asked.

“Yup. We won’t get this miracle again and come on, you and I make some really good looking babies.” He laughed and then shifted to lay down, laying Rosemina between us. She looked at her dad before she turned to look at me, a bubbling smile on her face. “Odd that Rayne is still out yet this one is up like crazy.” I wrinkled my nose and Rosemina reached up to grab at it, laughing the whole time.

“What is it?” My eyes shifted back to Grayson and I shrugged.

“Rosemina has always been the tough one to get to sleep at night but has no problem going down for a nap. In fact, she sleeps longer than Rayne does. And this is the first time she’s been up, and I highly doubt she’s going back to sleep.”

“And you are finding this odd, why?”

“You mean other than the fact that most babies sleep a lot. The lack of sleep at night is a common trait.” Grayson made a face before he quickly shook his head.

“No it’s not, it’s not found in vampires or were wolves, although we do thrive at night, we still sleep. That trait…,” he trailed off and then looked down at his daughter, “witches.”

-----

I nearly growled at the time, rushing to get home from the office and all to go back. I had just gotten off the phone with Grayson, who was struggling to get the kids dressed. And it seemed everyone who was set to watch the babies bailed, which means we were taking them to this meeting. Guess there was no time like the present for our team to meet the future prince and princess.

I rushed to the room, once I pulled up and gasped as I looked around. The room was in total shambles, clothes and toys all over the floor. I carefully walked in, trying not to step on anything and picked up a laughing Rosemina, who pushed my cheeks together and laughed harder. Well at least she was dressed, which was a plus. I turned as the bathroom door opened and a wet Grayson walked out with a laughing Rayne in his arms.

“What happened?”

“Give me a minute because I need to process it in my own mind.” I frowned as I walked over to him, the twins reaching out for each other and laughing even more. “Oh no you two don’t, not again.”

“What do mean again? They did this?” I looked around the room again in disbelief.

“Some of it is my doing, but they were still the end result. I’m not sure how or why even, but when I went to get clothes for them, I laid them in the crib. They started laughing and then swatting at each other and finally gurgling. The next thing I know, toys flew up and drawers opened and clothes spilled out.” I looked down at the two babies and shook my head.

“That is strange.”

“I’m all for magical babies but I am not dealing with these two again if they are going to be doing things like this.” I kissed Grayson’s cheek and smiled.

“Is a stay at home daddy being a bit too much for you?” He growled at me and I couldn’t help but laugh. “Okay, well these two are dressed; let’s take them with us, maybe Jonah and Tess can enlighten us.”

-----

We walked into the conference room, smiling as both Betty and Anna walked over to us, wanting to see the babies.

“They look so much like you,” Anna said as she lifted Rayne who looked back at her very intently.

“Magic they might be, but they are ours. In fact, Rayne is sporting some fangs.” I poked Grayson’s side. “And I say it all the time that he’s a mama’s boy and Grayson hates it.”

“Hey, can’t blame me for wanting my son to be like me.”

“Excuse me, Rosemina is a straight out daddy’s girl so don’t go there.” I looked up at and around the room. “Tess and Jonah aren’t here yet?”

“No, they were working on something but they said they would be here shortly,” Derrick said, walking in behind us.

“That’s fine; I need to talk to you for a moment.” He nodded and I followed him back outside the conference room.

“What’s up?” he asked as he crossed his arms and leaned his shoulder on the wall. I let out a breath, trusting Derrick but not sure how to bring everything up.

“Okay, you know at a time, we were working with Mariana?”

“Yeah, still not sure how you did that without killing her, but props to you. Why are you asking?”

“You know she’s having a party?”

“Yeah, I got my invite just the other day.” His eyes narrowed slightly. “What’s going on?”

“None of us have talked to her Mariana since we came back from Russia; it’s as if she’s fallen off the grid and with us. Then yesterday I came back to work to find an invite to the party.”

“Why you, why not Grayson? And why to your work?”

“Exactly all the questions we have. You know, as well as I, there is no love lost between that bitch and I even with her help, so why the fuck would she send it to me?” Derrick quickly pushed off the walk and shook his head.

“Are you thinking it’s a trap of some sort?”

“Yes, but we can’t quite figure out why. My question is if I go, without Grayson, would you watch my back?”

“Of course Fire, but I would want to talk to Grayson.”

“Of course.” I watched over his shoulder as Tessa and Jonah walked into the room. “We can talk more later.”

“Yeah.” Derrick followed me as I went back into the room, stopping next to Tessa as she looked at the babies.

“Question Tessa.”

“Yeah?”

“What do witches do when they have twins born?” Tessa made a face and chuckled.

“Witches will never have twins, it won’t happen.”

“Why?”

“A witch is born with the power already in their soul, even a baby could do magic, it’s just that powerful. That being said, a set of babies with that type of unharnessed power would simply be catastrophic.”
