Chapter 12
I could hear the awe in his voice as he spoke like he was remembering that moment as if it were sacred. My heart swelled, a strange mixture of warmth and disbelief settling in. He continued. His hand was now absentmindedly brushing my hair.
“I thought it was just a coincidence. But when I saw you, I felt something. A weak pull, like a whisper of what was to come. I wanted to approach you, but you were so wary of me, so I waited. I thought you’d recognize me, but you ran away.” Damon pouted.
“I couldn’t find you after that, no matter how hard I tried. I searched the whole forest, and just when I thought I was going crazy, Jake brought you to me.
His hand stilled on my back, and he looked at me, his expression serious. “You’ve been right there all along, Daphne. But I couldn’t smell your scent. It was like you were hiding from me. Then I found out why,”
I listened quietly, my heart beating faster as he spoke. I couldn’t believe this was real–that all this time, Damon had been waiting, searching, and I’d been too caught up in my own walls to see it.
Damon smiled softly, his fingers tracing my cheek. “The first time we danced, I felt the sparks. Everything else around us blurred away, and
was just you and me, I didn’t want to let go.
Tears pricked my eyes. I couldn’t explain why, but hearing him say those words filled the emptiness inside me, the void I’d tried so hard to ignore.
“I don’t know why the moon goddess didn’t let us meet sooner, I whispered, “but I don’t care anymore. You‘ re here now. That’s all that matters.”
Our eyes met, and for the first time, I felt like I could finally see Damon for who he truly was. The man who waited for me, who never gave up, who had been there all along. With a smile, I slid my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Our lips met again, this time
slower, softer, filled with the promise of what was to come
Whatever the future held, I knee one thing for certain. Damon was mine
Three years later, Damon and I had become an unbreakable team. Our relationship had blossomed, not just because of the love we shared, but because we respected each others equals Working together to defend the king realm wasn teasy, but somehow, having Damon by my side made every battle bearable and challenge feel surmountable.
Damon loyalty to me was steadfast. He never faltered, not even for a moment. His strength, both physical and emotional, anchored me in waves I hadn’t even realized I needed. And somewhere along the way, we’d earned our place in the court. People respected us. Together, we were a force to be reckoned with, even if sometimes we had to smile through the politics of it all.
But what truly solidified our bond wasn’t the battles we fought or the victories we celebrated. It was the quiet moments. The nights spent talking, laughing, and simply being with each other. The way he would look at me like I was his whole world, made my heart swell every single time.
In Damon, I had found not just my mate, but my partner in every sense of the word. And as we stood together, ready to face whatever the world threw our way, I knew we could handle it all together—especially our future as soon–to–be parents.
