The Necromancer's Wand: Rise of the Phoenix

Chapter 20: A Job Half Done, Part 1

Gemma and I enjoyed each other’s company for the next two days. However, all goods things must come to an end and it was time to refocus. On the morning of the third day, I gathered everyone to go over last minute details before the mission.

“The first shift is about to start,” I stated. “We are teleporting out front of the gated community, Evergreen Plateau. We will make our way on foot from there to Highlands Boulevard, the house number is 5394. There are inquisitors likely stationed at the front gates and around the house itself.”

“So as soon as we teleport in, should we expect to open fire?” asked Micah excitedly.

“Correct,” I replied. “The objective is simple, take out all inquisitors but do not harm the wife or son. When we have them in our grasp, we will take them to Phoenix Estate and wait for Everett to arrive. Is everyone ready?”

They all agreed they were ready. “Good,” I said. “Then let’s not be late picking our guests up. We want to be good hosts after all...” Sinister chuckles could be heard at my darkly made joke.

As we walked toward the door, Gemma stopped me by placing her hand on my chest. “I just want to give you something...for good luck,” she spoke softly. She raised my mask with her other hand and placed a kiss gently upon my cheek.

“I will be okay,” I reassured her. “Don’t forget, I still need to show you the Ember Isles.”

“I’ll hold you to it...”

She slid my mask back down my face and together we caught up to the rest. We all headed out front of the cathedral, it was still fairly dark for the morning sun had barely pierced the sky. “Remember, as soon as you teleport in, there will be a few inquisitors,” I restated. “Alright, let’s go...”

We teleported from the cathedral, reappearing one by one across from Evergreen Plateau. As we surfaced, the four inquisitors, who were stationed out front of the community gates, quickly went for their wands.

Micah and Hector, along with a third follower, stepped forward to help me deal with them. We all used our own choice of spell, mine being Sola Trapis. We disposed of the surprised guards swiftly and silently.

As we started crossing the street, I peered over and noticed a stylish, black, carriage. That ride belonged to the Inquisitors, probably having a few agents still inside. “Lumis,” I cast, aiming my wand toward the carriage as a ball of light formed. “Nova Supris.”

As the ball grew, its energy spiked out of control. I flung the ball toward the carriage. One of the wizards inside managed to hop out, before the entire thing went up in a fiery explosion.

I looked at Micah as I pointed at the guard laying in the street. “Kill him,” I commanded.

“With pleasure,” she grinned. She flickered away, appearing right next to inquisitor. I watched as she took him out and flickered back.

We turned our attention to the golden gates, leading into Evergreen Plateau. The gates were closed, enchanted, and surrounded by a perimeter wall, meaning it was the only way in. Typically, you would tell the guards to buzz someone, who expected you, on their intercom that was linked to the individual houses. However, that wasn’t the case for us...

There were several ways I could go about forcing our entry. The easiest way would be just to melt the metal is was made of. I aimed my wand at the center of where the gates met. “Decimate!” I cast.

A red beam shot from my wand and instantly, on impact, started to reduce the solid metal into a pool of molten liquid. With an opening made clear, I ceased the beam and flickered inside Evergreen Plateau.

The others flickered behind as we made our way up Mesa Avenue, until we stumbled across the intersection of Highlands Boulevard. I looked at houses to my left and noticed their numbers were in the late four thousands. The ones on my right were in the beginning of the five thousands.

“This way,” I stated, flickering right down Highlands Boulevard. As we travelled down the down street, we saw two carriages parked on the street in the distance. I knew it was more inquisitors, parked out front of the Summits’ residence.

As I flickered in close, I stopped near the carriages. I quickly held my wand toward them. “Infini Barragio,” I chanted. A thick spark shot from my wand and hit the ground beside the carriages. The spark bounced under the carriages, as it divided into smaller sparks, and detonated.

The carriages were sent airborne as they flipped over from the explosion. Meanwhile, my men had found the correct house, 5394 Highlands Boulevard, and taken out the two guards out front.

The house was an elegant, massive, mansion. It had these magnificent marble columns along the doorway and a stylish, circular, fountain in the front yard. It just shows how the product of power is wealth.

“Search around the house,” I commanded. “Make sure that was everyone.”

As I approached the house, the others went hunting around back. I could hear the screams of guards in the distance. Once I reached the front door, “Clear!” yelled Micah from the back yard.

I raised my wand to the doorknob, “Invada,” I cast. The front door unlocked, creaking open. I pushed it open the rest of the way. The others entered through the back door, hearing Elenore cry out as they busted in.

I watched as she came backing into the front room from the kitchen. She had her son wrapped in her arms, being cornered into the room by my men. I stepped forward, surrounding her and Ian the rest of the way.

Elenore was dressed in a nice sunny, yellow, dress. Her son, who had her seawater eyes, wore expensive silk clothing. Both had umber hair, hers long with grey throughout. They looked upon me with fear and utter horror.

“You are going to be our guests for a little while...” I stated coldly. “And if all goes according to plan, you shall leave our custody unharmed.”

“And...” she quivered. “What of my husband?”

“Oh, him I can make no promises for...Bring them, we leave for Phoenix Estate.”

We teleported from Evergreen Plateau to Phoenix Estate, forcing Elenore and Ian along for a journey. We arrived in the backyard and made our way inside. We settled in the living room, our hostages nestled comfortably on the couch.

I stationed two men out front and two out back. Their orders were simple, be on the look out for Everett’s arrival. They were not to engage but to come get me. I would deal with the councilman on my own, in a one on one duel...
