Chapter THIRTYSIX-BIRTH OF THE GAMMA
NEW YEAR: JANUARY 20th
Marcie POV
I was sitting in the living room watching my TV show, The Tourist. I felt a hard kick in my ribs and yelped. Our son seemed to like kicking the crap out of my bladder and ribs.
"Hey! Be nice," I said and rubbed my belly.
Juliano and I haven't decided on a name for our son yet. We played around with a few names. I liked Julio, while Juliano liked Fabio. I wasn't too keen on the name Fabio, so we said we would wait until our son was born to decide on a name.
Our son kicked me again as I whimpered and wondered what his problem was this afternoon. My due date was next week, and I couldn't wait to meet our son. Juliano had Gamma duties today with Staci as she was out training, and Antonio was stuck in the office with Carter.
I watched my show and rubbed my belly as a sharp pain shot up my spine, causing me to gasp. I felt a gush and liquid rush down my legs and ruin my pants. I felt that first contraction and screamed.
"Goddess!" I panted.
I wasn't due until next week, but fuck, these contractions hurt. I was panting and rubbing my belly as the first one passed.
"JULIANO!!!" I shouted in the link as his frantic voice filled my head.
"Marcie? What's the matter?" he asked as I panted when another contraction came.
"My water broke! Get home now!" I shouted as he replied and said he was on his way.
I breathed and rubbed my belly as I tried to stand. I gripped the couch and noticed the wet spot where I was sitting moments ago. I took slow steps toward the door. A contraction hit me, making my knees buckle, and I held onto the doorway for support and breathed.
"Fuck!" I panted.
I heard the elevator doors ding open as Juliano and Staci ran toward me as I panted. Juliano was sweaty and smelled, and Staci looked roughed with her ponytail and a few bruises covering her arms.
"Juliano, you should take a quick shower, and I'll escort Marcie to the pack hospital," Staci said as Juliano nodded.
Staci helped me toward the elevator as Juliano went inside the suite.
"Don't forget the bags!" I called out.
We entered the elevator. Staci's eyes glazed over as another contraction hit me, and I squeezed her arm and cried out.
"Deep breaths," Staci said, and I felt her hand on my back.
I felt this warm and soothing energy enter my body as my contractions subsided, and I sighed. It was like a heavenly drug coursing through my veins as I lulled, and Staci held me.
"What did you do?" I asked as the doors opened, and a nurse awaited us.
"Healing energy," Staci said, smiling as she helped sit in the wheelchair.
The nurse wheeled me inside and toward the back as Juliano's parents and mine walked into the pack hospital. Staci said she would return after she cleaned up and checked on Ace.
I was situated in room five as two nurses helped me into a hospital gown and helped me on the bed. I panted as the contraction pain was mild now, thanks to Staci. I was hooked up to a fetal monitor as our pup's heart rate echoed throughout the room.
Juliano came in a few minutes later, freshly showered and dressed in a simple gray long-sleeved shirt and black sweatpants. He set our bags on the couch near the bed and pulled a chair beside my bed.
"How are you feeling?" Juliano said and held my hand.
"I'm fine," I sighed.
A nurse placed a cold washcloth on my forehead and four cups of ice chips on the table beside the bed. Thanks to Staci and Antonio, the ice chips helped.
Doctor Scott walked in a few minutes later and smiled at us.
"Gamma and Gamma Female," Dr. Scott said and bowed.
Dr. Scott checked the monitor and wrote something on his clipboard. I heard the nurses busing around the room, preparing everything for our pup.
"The Luna has a magical touch," Dr. Scott says, sanitizing his hands and putting on gloves.
"That she does," I say, rubbing my belly. The contractions were still mild, and I was still eating ice chips.
Dr. Scott checked my cervix as Juliano growled, and I smacked his chest. Juliano looked at me. I glared at him, and he quickly looked away.
"That's his job. Calm down," I said as Juliano nodded and reined in his wolf.
I was only 3cm dilated and sighed, as we still had a few more hours before our pup arrived. I lay back on the bed as Dr. Scott excused himself, and Juliano turned the TV on and put my show so I could watch it.
"Try to sleep," Juliano said as I nodded and closed my eyes.
I knew sleep wouldn't come quickly, but I would try to pass the time as our pup took his sweet time getting here.
Juliano POV
Marcie got comfortable in bed and tried to sleep. I would hear our pup's heartbeat on the fetal monitor and smile proudly. Our son was strong, and I couldn't wait to meet him.
The waiting game was the most challenging part, and watching Marcie sleep while her chest rose and fell put me at ease. I was glad Staci managed to help with the contractions. Marcie doesn't take pain well, and she's a big baby when it comes to things like that.
The nurses asked if we needed anything, and I shook my head. They said they would return when it was time to deliver our pup. The nurses left to check on the other patients and pups. I watched Marcie's favorite TV show and occasionally heard her whimper in her sleep.
Jackson was whimpering and pacing in my head. He was worried about our mate, but I assured him she was okay. An hour had passed when Dr. Scott quietly walked back inside and checked the monitor. He wrote on his clipboard and smiled at me.
"Everything appears to be going smoothly," Dr. Scott said and smiled.
I heard panting and looked to the side to see Marcie waking up as she breathed through a contraction. I guess Staci's little magic was wearing off, and the contractions were back in full effect.
"Goddess," Marcie groaned and squeezed my arm.
Dr. Scott went over and checked Marcie to see how far she dilated. Marcie progressed to 6cm and was almost there. Marcie screamed and panted as Dr. Scott looked at her and waited for the contraction to be over.
"Want an epidural?" Dr. Scott asked Marcie as she whimpered.
"No! If Staci and Monica can do it without one, so can I!" Marcie shouted and ate her ice chips.
Dr. Scott nodded as I rubbed Marcie's back and tried to comfort her. The doctor said he would return shortly when it was time for Marcie to push. Dr. Scott exited the room to check on other patients as Marcie breathed through her contraction.
Three Hours Later: (Still Juliano's POV)
"AH! FUCK!!!" Marcie cried out as she pushed.
I wiped her forehead as she squeezed my arm and pushed with all her might. Dr. Scott was on his stool between her legs, preparing for the birth of our pup. The two nurses were standing by, waiting to receive our pup.
"I should've taken the epidural," Marcie whined after she took a breath.
"You got this baby. You're stronger than you realize," I say, kissing her sweaty brow as she whimpers.
"Here comes the head," Dr. Scott announces as I look down.
I see partial jet-black hair coming out of Marcie as my eyes widen when I see our son entering the world. Antonio and Carter were right. It's a different feeling to watch your pup being born.
Marcie pushes again and screams as the pup moves further down the birth canal. Dr. Scott praises Marcie for her push and says there are just a few more to go.
I watch as the doctor gently grabs our pup and helps Marcie bring him into the world. Dr. Scott encourages Marcie to push, and she does.
"One more push," Dr. Scott says as my heart beats out of my chest with anticipation.
Marcie pushes and cries out as our pup finally emerges. Marcie lays back on the bed, panting. Our son wails at the top of his lungs as Dr. Scott clears his airways and wipes him off a bit.
"There he is," Dr. Scott says, hands me a pair of scissors, and motions for me to cut the cord.
I take the scissors and cut the cord, freeing our son as Dr. Scott lays him on Marcie's chest. A nurse comes over with a blanket as Marcie comforts our crying pup. He has jet-black hair and light-tanned skin. The nurse makes sure his airways are clear and wipes him down. I hear Marcie gasp as she looks up at me.
"He has my eyes," Marcie says as I peek at our son. I smile as I look into his silver-gray eyes.
"Julio Miguel Oliveira," Marcie says as I smile and nod. Julio smelled like the sweetest hazelnut.
The nurse reached for our son as Marcie growled, and the nurse flinched and backed up.
"Marcie, it's fine. Our son is safe," I say as she reins in Mya and nods.
I nod for the nurse to take our pup. She gently takes him from Marcie, walks over to where the other nurse is standing, and checks him over. Dr. Scott has us moved to a comfortable room so Marcie can clean up and nurse our son.
While Marcie was in the shower, I linked the kitchen staff to bring up some dinner for Marcie and me. A knock sounds on the door as the nurse comes in and rolls our pup inside.
"The little Gamma weighed 8lbs. 4oz. and measured 20 inches long," the nurse said as I smiled.
"Thank you," I told the nurse as she bowed and left the room.
A few minutes later, Marcie walked out of the bathroom, freshly showered and dressed in comfortable PJs. I heard someone knock on the door and told them to come in. The door opened as an omega rolled in a food cart, and I smiled.
The scent hit my nose, and I knew it was soup with biscuits and a slice of pizza. Two water bottles were also on the cart. I thanked the omega as she bowed and exited the room. Marcie and I ate our dinner, and afterward, she nursed our son.
Julio had a healthy appetite as he cooed and suckled. I told Marcie that our parents and friends said they would visit tomorrow since it was almost midnight, and she nodded and smiled down at our son.
An hour passed as someone knocked on the door, and a nurse poked her head inside. Marcie had long since fallen asleep, and so did Julio. She came to take him to the nursery for the night so we could rest. I nodded as she quietly rolled him out. I got comfortable on the couch bed and drifted off to sleep.
