Chapter 78
Syrhahn
The man that knew where Syrhahn’s son was, was gone in a flash. He cursed that they didn’t have Maya to take him against his will from where he stood.
Syrhahn started running and just carried on, running through portal after portal, the Ka’s hanging on to his left arm, the one holding the gun, as April was still clinging to his right side. It would be so easy to lose a comrade in those conditions, so they hung on to each other for dear life.
World after world flashed before them as Brian tried to outmanoeuvre them but failed. Syrhahn didn’t know how much longer he could last, his breath was coming in gasps, the lactic acid in his muscles burning in his calves and where he was holding onto the precious April.
And then they were stationary, the Ka’s separated in two people.
“Shit!” they shouted, as they all went through April’s portal into the battlefield that was once the most peaceful place in the multiverse.
They returned to mayhem. The dead were rising. Spectrals and people alike were coming back from the grave, looking as surprised as the rest of them. People were wrestling one on one, tumbling over each other.
Syrhahn saw Xhisara grabbing a child and disappearing just as fast, no doubt trying to save them, despite their trying to kill them.
The two Ka’s had reunited and they prepared to return to Brian, unbeknown to him since he had no idea they could get him anywhere, when Maya appeared in front of them.
“Which one are you?” she asked the Ka’s.
“Both together,” they replied.
“So Ka’s in there?” she demanded impatiently.
“We’re both here.”
“Okay,” she looked slightly confused.
“They’re trackers now, they can track anyone anywhere,” Syrhahn told her quickly before she vanished again.
“Can track Ellie?” she gasped.
“Yes, but we were after Brian,” the Ka’s said in one voice.
“Fuck Brian, let’s get Ellie, concentrate!”
And then they were gone, leaving Syrhahn and April and on the battlefield.
“Xhisara!” Syrhahn shouted as she appeared again. She nodded to them as she disappeared with another child, reappearing next to them a second later.
“Got a tracker?” Syrhahn asked. “Who knows Brian?”
“We’re on his trail!” shouted April. “But we’ve lost our tracker!”
“We need you to engulf,” Syrhahn added. “We’ve got to get the bastard!”
“Hang on,” Xhisara vanished.
“Tracker,” she said, motioning to a dark haired woman who was about the Ka’s height. “Let’s go.”
