Chapter 2
When I woke up to my alarm. I groaned. It was way too early for this.
I laid in bed for a good ten minutes before Vicky pounded on my door.
"Its time to get up. You dont want to be late on your second day."
"Im awake" I yelled as I threw the covers off my body.
"I'm making breakfast sandwiches. Do you want one." She stepped in.
"Two, please. On croissants. Oh and instead of the ham can I have sausage on it?"
"Okay. So 2 sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches on croissants?"
"Yes. Thank you Vic." I said.
"You're welcome." She spoke walking out.
At times I hated Victoria. When i was pissed at her or something I called her Vicky. Sometimes to her face. She wasnt that bad of a step mom. It was just the fact of my dad cheating on my mom with her that hurt and made me hate her. I loved her food though. She was a great cook.
Sighing I padded my way to the bathroom. By the time I was finished getting ready, I was called down stairs to have breakfast.
As I came down the stairs I was greeted by Jake. My step brother. He was 3 years older than me. In college and everything. I love his girlfriend, Aria, though. I have only met her once but in that short time she has became my favorite person.
"Hey, Squirt. Hows school so far?"
"Good. I enjoy it. Having only 4 classes is great." I grabbed my plate and sat down at the table.
"Eat up. Your father already left for work. He had some papers to grade. School starts in 20 minutes. So hurry and eat." Victoria said as she set down a cup of apple juice in front of me.
I hurried across the street to school with 10 minutes to spare.
As I walked into my first hour class I was not happily greeted by a group of people sitting around my table.
They all stood up as I came over to them.
"So. You're the new girl." One girl grumbled.
"Last time I checked." I said. Setting my stuff down.
"Shes a smartass bitch isnt she." A guy garged as he forced a laugh.
"Stay away from Damien. Hes mine." The girl who stated the obvious about me being new said.
"Who?"
"Dont play dumb. I saw you two yesterday in 4th hour." A blonde girl with pink highlights said.
"Oh, him. I didnt know he had a girlfriend. Besides, I'm not interested." I went to sit when the first girl grabbed my arm.
"Dont lie. Everyone wants Damien. But he is mine."
"Chera!" Mrs.Ardy said as she walked into the classroom. "Get out of my class and go to yours. Leave Ariel alone."
Chera huffed as she let go of my arm.
Her golden blonde hair glistened in the light as she turned around walking out of the classroom with her friends behind her.
I sat reading the book we were on as Mrs.Ardy read to the class. By the time the bell rang I had already gotten to chapter 10 while the class was on chapter 7.
I went to walk into my second hour class as Chera came walking up with her friends, right as Damien came walking up to the door.
"Hello, Ariel." He smiled.
"Look, Dami-"
Chera walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him close to her. "I've been looking for you all morning, baby. Where have you been?"
"Chera, how many times do we have to be over this? We arent together. Nor will we ever be together. Now get off me." He spoke, grabbing her arms and pulling her off him. He took a safe step away from her.
I turned and walked away. Going into the classroom.
School had gone by quickly. We were all sitting in fourth hour as Mr.Kelly talked about our assignment for the week.
Damien kept turning and looking at me. It was starting to get on my nerves. I wanted to say "take a picture itll last longer." But was afraid he would actually do it.
As the bell rang I began to close my books and set the papers in my notebook. A shadow covered the table top as I bent to grab my bag.
"How are you?" Damien asked, bending down to look me in the eyes.
"I'm fine." I said curtly as I placed my things in my bag.
"Good. So-" He began, but I cut him off.
"Look, I appreciate your friendliness. But this brings too much drama to the table. I dont need to be harassed by Chera and her friends because you want to be friendly with me. So please just stop." I stood and exited the room. Going home.
(Damiens P.O.V.)
I stood there shocked at her words. Of course Chera would do something like this. She always was one for drama.
As I walked out of the classroom and around the corner I saw Chera. She walked up to me saying something, but I wasn't paying attention to her at all as I kept walking past her.
She called for me. But I went to my next class. I was getting tired of her games.
I wasnt interested in anyone here. Least of all Chera. But there was something about Ariel that had me hooked. Mesmerized. She was different from everyone else. It was refreshing.
The rest of the day went by in a blur and before I knew it I was heading home.
(Ariel's P.O.V)
I was laying in bed as i listened to Youngblood by 5 Seconds of summer, while doing my homework.
"Dinners ready." Jake popped his head in the door.
"Mk." I answered, standing.
As we walked down to the kitchen. I heard laughter echoing out.
"Dad invited a friend of his over. He brought his wife and one of his kids, by the way." Jake explained.
"Good thing I'm in something decent." I grumbled sarcastically, looking down at my sweats and tank top.
As we stepped in, my mood turned sour. Damien sat at the table next to my chair. I glared at my father as I walked up.
"Here is my lovely daughter. Ariel, this is Kameran Knight and his wife Angie Knight. Their son, Damien, goes to your school. With his other siblings." My dad spoke.
Damien turned around and looked at me as soon as my dad spoke my name.
"We have already met." Damien said.
"Oh?" His father said.
"We have two classes together." I answered.
"That's great." Dad exclaimed.
Damiens parents sat there in their nice attire and looked at me with curiosity plain on their faces.
"So, how have you been liking Anchorage so far?" His father asked.
"Its fine. Not as warm as Washington though." I spoke, walking over to my chair. I pulled it out and towards the corner more. Away from Damien.
"Yes. There isnt much sun here." He spoke.
There was something about Damien and his parents that was off. I couldnt put my finger on what. But I knew that I didn't want to find out.
____________
I sat there at her dinner table while our parents talked. I didnt want to go to this, but my parents need to keep up the image of being human.
'I take it you didnt know she was his daughter.' My father spoke to my thoughts.
'No I didnt. She told me her feelings towards me. Which is understandable, we have only just met.'
'You found your mate.' My mother spoke.
Dad began to laugh out loud at my mothers words. Knowing how much work I was going to have to put in to get her to love me as much as I love her.
"What's so funny?" Jake, Ariels brother, asked.
"Nothing, nothing. Sorry." My father coughed, clearing his throat.
"So how do you all know each other?" She asked.
"I fund the entire Mythology program. I found that it is important to know all about it and all the cultures in which it came." Father answered.
"You think that people learning different cultures myths is important?"
"Very much yes. You do not know which are the truth and which are just a myth."
"They are all lies. Made up stories by scared people or parents to keep their children in check. Hence them being called myths."
"Not all myths are myths child. Vampires, for example are very much real." Father took a drink of his wine as my eyes widened.
'What are you doing?' I hissed in his thoughts.
She laughed till tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Ariel." Her father warned.
"I'm sorry father. But vampires being real is just a load of crap. If they were real then there would be police reports."
"Not necessarily, child. There are many ways for vampires to feed without being caught." He leaned back into the chair.
"Do you really believe that?" She challenged.
'What are you doing father?'
'Listen to her words. Watch her body language. Shes keeping up this topic because she is intrigued.'
My father's logic was different from everyone else's.
"There are blood banks. Theres willing humans who will do anything for the chance to have a vampire. To know a vampire. To become a vampire. Animals, they can sustain a vampire for weeks. It's not as filling as human blood. But it does the trick."
"How do you know this?" She raised her eyebrow.
"I've been in this business for years. Theres nothing you can ask that I dont know."
She gave him a challenging look. "Are their eyes red?"
"When angered or hungry beyond rational thought."
"Does the smell of blood drive them into a frenzy?"
"If extremely hungry. The smell of blood with bring out the demon within. Pushing down the rational human part of the creature and bringing out the blood thirsty killer hidden deep."
"Sunlight?"
"Vampires who have killed become creatures of the night. Vampires who have not killed have no problem being out in the sunlight."
"You got your words mixed up father." I chimed in.
"Oh, so now you know about vampires too?" She spoke looking at me.
"If a vampire takes a human life while feeding then they can no longer live in the sunlight."
"How about we change the topic to something more cheerful." Victoria, Ariels mother spoke up.
'Step mother, son. Ariels mother died. That is why she is sitting here today.' My father spoke to me.
I looked at her. She was hunched in her chair playing with her food. A look of disappointment on her face.
"Good idea." Her father agreed.
The rest of dinner went by fairly quickly as our parents held idly chit chat.
Finally we ended up going home. I was rather hungry and annoyed.
"Did you have to have that conversation with her?" I snapped at him as soon as he walked into the kitchen.
"It was a very entertaining conversation. Shes intrigued by us. She wants to learn alot more about vampires. Her thoughts swam with questions." He simply said. Shrugging his shoulders.
"That's all that was on her mind?"
"No. She found us odd. She knows there is something different about us. But she cant figure it out. But shes determined to find out."
I closed my eyes and internally groaned. Of course. This was going to be fun. Only the second day shes been around and shes already suspicious.
