Chapter 4 - Plus-sized teddy bear
DIMA’S POV
When Dima came out of his mate’s bathroom, now fully dressed, he almost had a stroke when he saw her bed empty. A panic attack was almost at full force when he remembered that he was a shifter. He could sniff her out and follow her scent towards wherever she went.
‘Sometimes I’m so stupid!’ Dima thought to himself as he smacked his forehead. His bear groaned in agreement and sat up in Dima’s mind, waiting for Dima to reach their mate’s side to be able to steal a glance of her through Dima’s eyes.
Dima started following Oksana’s scent. Her smell trail led him out of her bedroom and down a hall. The moment he stepped foot off her room, he began to be capable of hearing the sound of Oksana’s voice downstairs. Her wizard of a father probably enchanted her room to make it soundproof or something of that kind, Dima concluded. Feeling relaxed that his mate hadn’t left the house, Dima started admiring the architecture of the place.
The hall walls were worked professionally to resemble the wood of pine logs. They were slightly rough to the touch and even had light and some dark wood veins popping around, a true piece of art. The walls were littered with photo frames, and Dima couldn’t stop himself from observing every single one of them. Some were children others were family pictures or a single person’s photo. Oksana and Jamila appeared in most of them, he saw pictures from when the two were probably six years old and all the way to their teenage years.
Something Dima did notice was that each family picture had a family member added. They started with a photo of Oksana, an elder lady, and Angus, then advanced to Zainab, another elder lady who Zainab resembled, an older man beside the lady, Jamila, and a baby, and the next one was of Angus, Zainab, Jamila, a newborn baby, and a little boy with probably only one year, the two elder ladies were in a corner of the picture, isolated from the family but they were laughing so much that no one could say they had been banned or forgotten by Oksana’s family. The pictures went on and on and Dima soon realized that his mate had many siblings...
‘At least she didn’t have a lonely childhood.’ He through and shrugged his shoulders. He would worry about that some other time; right now he needed to find his mate and get to know her.
The smell of bacon reached Dima’s bear’s nostrils, and the beast went crazy with hunger, drooling and rumbling happily for food, which reminded him that he had to go hunt something worthy of being presented to his mate. As soon as she accepted their bond, he would present her with his catch.
Dima climbed down the stairs silently, or at least as silently as a grizzly bear could, which might have been deadly silent because no one in the living room noticed him.
Unknown male scents reached his nose, and Dima’s bear roared in his mind, the sound reverberating a bit on his chest and catching the attention of a brown-haired teenage boy.
“WHO THE HELL IS THAT?” The kid yelled and rudely pointed at him. He seemed like one of the kids from the pictures, but Dima wasn’t sure the kid on the photos didn’t have a beard.
“Language.” His little mate reprimanded the boy. Her voice came from further inside the living room, and so, Dima stepped down two more steps before he saw a wall with a window hole, and his little mate was behind it, in what seemed like the kitchen. Dima searched for the kitchen door and found another boy in there. His bear felt threatened and started growling and roaring inside Dima’s head, his fur all raised as he got ready to fight for his mate.
“Dima met my younger brothers. Kaavy, Axton, Akir, Dania, met my mate, Dima,” Oksana suddenly said, turning around in the kitchen to face the brown-haired boy who had yelled. The sound of her voice and the relaxed and content smile on her face made his bear go quiet, and stand still, simply drooling over their mate in a corner of Dima’s mind.
When Oksana’s words finally registered in Dima’s fuzzy brain, he noticed that two of the persons referred were missing, but with Oksana’s teenage brothers glaring at him so hard, he thought it better to keep an eye on them than to search for the new faces, just in case they would also want to slaughter him where he stands.
A tense silence fell between him and the two boys, and Dima saw from the corner of his eye Oksana’s tense move as if she was waiting for a fight to break out between him and the two teenagers.
“I CAN’T SEE HIM!” The shrill voice of a little girl unexpectedly complained VERY loudly.
“Me too, but I heard him growl, so maybe he is a wolf.” A young boy’s voice joined her, and Dima shortly understood that those were the kids from the last family picture he had seen on the hallway upstairs. A few seconds of silence followed by the sound of the two kids blowing air out of their mouths followed and, after a few more seconds, the little girl spoke again.
“Let’s go to Kaavy! If he can see Mr. Dima then we will be able to see him as well!” Shortly after her declaration, the pitter parter of feet started and, a little body pushed past the black-haired teenager on the kitchen doorway and came running out, closely followed by another small body a bit bigger than the girl. The girl, Dania, stopped in front of Kaavy and the other boy, who Dima wasn’t sure if he was Axton or Akir, stopped behind Dania, between her and Kaavy.
“WOW! You’re HUGE!” Dania suddenly exclaimed and fell against the boy while trying to look at Dima’s eyes. The boy, who had his mouth hanging wide open, also tried to accomplish the task his little sister didn’t manage to and fell against Kaavy, who was now supporting the two kids’ weight. Everyone started laughing at the kids’ reactions.
Dima couldn’t stop his own roaring laughter after seeing his mate’s younger siblings’ performance. No one had ever fallen while trying to look him in the eyes.
“WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?” Angus yelled from behind Dima, scaring the bear shifter half to death and making him stumble down the last step of the stairs and have a forced shift.
Dima’s bear had a confused look on his face. He didn’t understand what had spooked his human, but when he turned around and saw his mate laughing, he stopped growling and looked up to the place his human side had been standing on before stumbling. Just a few steps higher than his human had been, the grizzly found his mate’s father doubled over in laughter and holding on to his belly along with the girl and woman his mate called sister and mother.
Everyone around him was laughing, and soon the bear saw his mate’s youngest siblings charging towards him with huge smiles on their faces. The grizzly sat down heavily, making the whole ground shake with his weight, and proceeded to lay down with his paws under his belly to make sure he didn’t accidentally hurt the children. Dania and Akir stopped momentaneous running towards the bear when the ground shook, but as soon as everything stilled, Dania charged towards the massive animal. Akir looked a bit apprehensive after the bear made the ground shake, but seeing his little sister hug the bear’s head, he decided there was nothing to be afraid of and slowly started approaching the bear again.
Dima’s bear saw the little boy look at him unsure and tried to make himself smaller so that the boy would approach him. His actions worked, and the little boy started approaching him. The bear felt euphoric he LOVED children!
Dania took advantage of the beast’s recoiled figure and started climbing him like a mountain, which he was to the four years old, and while she did that, Akir petted the bear.
“Dania! Don’t climb Dima’s bear. He is not a climbing wall.” Zainab scolded the little girl. The bear scoffed at the worried mother and licked Akir before turning his head around and licking Dania’s tiny hand.
“Hahaha, mom, don’t be such a buzzkill. Dima’s bear is obviously enjoying Akir and Dania’s attention, just look at the way he’s beaming in excitement!” Jamila laughed, and Angus agreed with her. The bear seemed to be loving the kids’ attention. “I bet he would love if someone else touched him, though. Jamila added and lifted her eyebrows in a knowing gesture. Angus scowled at that suggestion, but Zainab, seeing her husband’s facial expression, giggled and agreed with her daughter.
“Oh, for sure.”
Forgetting all about the food and leaving her brother’s side, Roksana started to advance towards the bear. The beast, seeing his mate draw nearer, got up on four legs and waited for her to come closer to him. He didn’t even mind the two children perched on his back.
“They aren’t too heavy for you, are they?” Oksana asked him, worried once she got close to him. The bear shook his head, and she smiled relieved before she too started petting the huge, sweet beast. They stayed like that for a while, with everyone observing them, but they didn’t mind. The bear was more than happy to pass some time with his mate, family, or no family observing them, included.
“Dania fell asleep.” The spell between the two mates was broken by Zainab’s words. Oksana and the bear both turned their faces to look at the animal’s back, and indeed, they found the four years old asleep and a seven-year-old close behind.
Zainab moved carefully towards the bear and took Dania from his back before attempting to grab Akir as well.
“Go put Dania in bed, love. I will take Akir.” Angus whispered in her ear and wrapped his arms around Zainab’s waist before giving her a few kisses on the neck. Zainab melted in his embrace and, with a short loving kiss and a playful slap in the ass, she left with a laugh and Dania in her arms. Angus grinned and followed behind her, keeping a bit of distance between them to be able to ogle her ass while carrying Akir’s sleeping form.
Everyone in that living room wished for a love like that, and they all knew not to settle for anything less. Jamila, Kaavy, and Axton were jealous of their older sister but they were also very happy for Oksana, if anyone between the four of them deserved to find their soul mate first, it would be Oksana, after all the shit she had to put through in her life... She deserved it.
Dima couldn’t be happier whether, in bear form or human, his mate was in his arms, and after seeing Angus and Zainab’s affectionate display, he couldn’t wait for that to be him and Oksana.
“Well, I guess I will have to save some sandwiches for Dania and Akir,” Oksana’s sweet voice stated from in between the fur of Dima’s bear’s neck.
