Chapter 5
Chapter 5 We’re Still Married
Gwyneth gritted her teeth as she spoke those words.
“Y–You ungrateful girl!” Gaspard’s blood boiled as he stared at his daughter. He wondered if she had lost her mind, since she had always. been so obedient before.
Gwyneth sneered. “Don’t even bother thanking me. Instead of wasting your time, you should be thinking about your retirement plan.”
“Y–You…!” Gaspard was taken aback by Gwyneth’s disrespect. He took a step forward, ready to strike, but someone grabbed his arm. It was his wife, Bianca White.
“Gwynnie, please. We’re all family here. Can’t we just try to get along?” Bianca implored, trying to calm the situation. She supported Gaspard, who was struggling to catch his breath. “Your father has missed you dearly for so long. If my presence is the issue. I can leave. Please don’t misunderstand him,” she continued, her tone filled with sadness and regret, evoking sympathy from those around her.
“Please, Ms. Glen, he’s your father,” someone interjected. “And Mr. Glen, please don’t say hurtful things to your daughter in anger. You’re both family, after all.”
“Mr. Glen, you should be proud of raising a business genius like Gwyneth,” another person added.
Bianca’s words sounded conciliatory and garnered some support from the other guests.
Suddenly, a piercing scream echoed from the entrance. Gwyneth whipped around and saw Judy who had been forcibly removed from the
venue.
Gwyneth seethed with anger. “What’s the point of having security if they can’t even keep the troublemakers out?‘ she fumed silently.
Judy rushed over to her father. “Dad, are you okay?” she asked, shooting a glare at Gwyneth. “You poured a drink all over me and even kicked me out, and now you’re being vicious to Dad, the man who raised you for so many years!”
Gwyneth sneered at Judy, thinking to herself, “He raised me?” Then she spoke up. “Judy Glen, are you referring to the time when your mother brought you to our doorstep just a month after my mother’s passing? So while I was mourning the loss of my mother, you gained a father?”
As she spoke, Gwyneth remained composed, refusing to show even a hint of vulnerability, even though tears began to well up in her eyes. Her emotions were a mix of grief and resilience.
The surrounding people were shocked and murmurs broke out. The fact that very few people knew the real story about the Glen family back then had allowed Gaspard to carry out his shameless actions without any sense of guilt or restraint.
However, this didn’t mean that nobody knew anything at all.
“Back when Gwyneth’s mother was the president of Glen Corporation, the company was at the height of its success. It hasn’t been that long since then, but Glen Corporation had already…”
“I know, right? That time, Gwyneth Glen was very… tsk!”
The murmurs cut through Gaspard like a knife.
Gwyneth’s eyes flashed with a hint of anger as she remembered the past.
“Mr. Glen, you don’t deserve to be called ‘Dad‘ by me. You’re using my mother’s hard–earned money to support another daughter of yours. Judy, who is just six months younger than me. Don’t you feel any guilt about it? That money was earned with my mother’s blood, sweat. and tears!”
Gwyneth then lifted her head, took a deep breath, and composed herself to appear both vulnerable and strong, holding back tears. She turned to face the audience with sincerity and humility. “Thank you all for being here today. I appreciate your attendance. The banquet is now over, and there will be no changes to the acquisition plan for Glen Corporation.”
“Gwyneth…!” Gaspard watched as the situation spiraled out of his control and let out a scream before passing out.
As Gwyneth was getting ready to leave, she felt a strong hand grab her arm. “Who the hell… she turned around, frowning, only to see Liam Luther standing in front of her with a questioning expression. ‘Greal, my ex–husband, Liam Luther.”
“I had no idea my ex–wife was now the CEO of AMC?” Liam said.
Gwyneth couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his remark. If she still looked the way she did before, this man would probably steer clear of her. But now, he was approaching her.
“Ms. Glen, don’t you think you owe me an explanation?” Liam said.
“Mr. Luther, just a few hours ago, I signed the divorce papers, so please behave appropriately,” Gwyneth responded.
“Behave appropriately?” Liam found it amusing that someone was telling him how to behave and smirked.
*Are you, the CEO of Luther Corporation, not familiar with the concept of behaving appropriately?” Gwyneth exclaimed, facing the crowd alongside Liam. “We’re divorced now, and it’s best if we keep our distance from each other,” she continued.
“Ms. Glen, you’re mistaken. I haven’t signed the divorce papers yet.” Liam replied, his smirk growing wider as he noticed Gwyneth’s shocked expression. “So, technically, we’re still married. There’s no need to talk about me ‘behaving appropriately“.”
‘I’m still married to him?‘ Gwyneth looked at Liam with confusion, thinking. He hasn’t signed the divorce papers?! What is he thinking?”
Gwyneth took a deep breath and forced a fake smile. She knew better than to offend Liam at the moment. “Mr. Luther, I understand you have a busy schedule, so please sign the papers as soon as you can.”
Liam studied Gwyneth carefully, noticing the stark contrast between her fake smile and the confidence she had shown on stage moments earlier. He couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Which one is the real you? Liam’s lips twitched as he considered this, his eyes narrowing slightly with a glint of cunning.
As Liam was about to speak again, his assistant approached him and said, “Mr. Luther, the hospital is on the line.” Liam’s expression froze at the words. He watched as Gwyneth walked away before hesitating for two seconds and taking the call.
“Mr. Luther. I am the attending physician in charge of Ms. Lisle’s care, and I have an update for you regarding the doctor we discussed earlier,” the doctor’s voice came through the receiver, with a tone that suggested he wanted to be recognized for his efforts.
“Are you referring to the top–tier specialist, Gwen Lent?” Liam asked. “How is Elizabeth doing?”
“Her condition is stable, but we recommend that the surgery be performed as soon as possible,” the doctor replied.
Liam’s face remained impassive, but a flicker of relief and concern passed across his features at the news. As he listened, he began to make his way toward the exit of the banquet hall his long legs striding purposefully.
