Chapter 1 The Contract Deadline Has Arrived
“Ms. Glen, the contract deadline has arrived. Young Master instructed me to have you sign the divorce agreement today.” Edward Thompson, the butler, informed.
Gwyneth Glen was sitting on the couch in the living room of the Luther residence, looking bored and watching a soap opera on TV. She had loosely tied hair and heavy, tired–looking eyes. Her skin was lackluster with freckles, which made her look older than her actual age.
Upon hearing Edward’s words, Gwyneth curled her lips slightly as she took the contract from his hand and began to read it. “Three years. have gone by so last,” she murmured.
Edward stood silently by her side, surprised that Gwyneth didn’t put up a fight or require any persuasion to sign. He felt it was a shame, as he thought Ms. Glen was a good–hearted person who didn’t fit the typical mold of a Luther family member due to her appearance and status. Nevertheless, the three–year Mrs. Luther promptly took the pen and signed her name on the document.
Gwyneth handed back the pen and paper to Edward and rose from the couch. “Edward, thank you for taking care of me these past three years,” she said appreciatively.
Throughout their three–year marriage, Gwyneth and Liam had never truly connected. Even on their wedding night, they had spent the evening in silence. During the day, their interactions were limited to exchanging greetings. Despite sharing a home in the Luther residence, they slept in separate bedrooms – Liam in the master bedroom, and Gwyneth in a guest room.
Despite her lack of connection with her husband, Gwyneth had come to appreciate the kindness shown to her by Edward, the family butler, during her time in the house.
“Ms. Glen, your luggage has been packed and checked. If you need anything-” Edward began, but Gwyneth interrupted him.
“No need,” she replied firmly.
Edward was taken aback by Gwyneth’s sudden assertiveness. What’s gotten into her?” he wondered silently. ‘She’s not her usual.
submissive self, always avoiding eye contact. But now, she seems different. She’s more assertive now.‘
Gwyneth waved her hand and stretched leisurely, a smile slowly spreading across her face. She felt a sense of satisfaction in finally
repaying the favor to Liam’s grandfather.
She picked up a jacket from her suitcase and let her hair down, placing her glasses on the table. She then grabbed a makeup wipe and quickly ran it over her face a few times. As she did so, her previously lackluster and freckled complexion slowly transformed into a radiant and youthful appearance. Her sparkling eyes, well–defined nose, and delicate skin were now on full display.
“Goodbye, Edward,” Gwyneth said, shaking her long hair before leaving the Luther residence.
Meanwhile, still in shock, Edward answered Liam’s phone call.
“Did she sign?” Liam asked.
“Yes, Young Master. Ms. Glen has signed the divorce agreement. But she seemed different today…” Edward trailed off, thinking back to the way Gwyneth had confidently left the house.
Meanwhile, as Gwyneth stepped out of the Luther residence, a car pulled up in front of her just as she reached for her phone.
“Boss, long time no see. I missed you so much,” a handsome man with a smile on his face appeared at the driver’s seat as the window
rolled down.
“What are you doing here?” Gwyneth asked as the man got out of the car and placed her two suitcases in the trunk.
“Boss, it’s your first day of being single again. How could I forget?” The man said with a grin.
Once they were both in the car, Gwyneth took a closer look at the man next to her, her calm gaze giving him an uneasy feeling.
“Boss, can you stop looking at me like that? You’re going to give me a heart attack,” Wesley Mitchell said, raising his hands up in front of his chest, which made Gwyneth laugh.
“It just feels strange to see you like this after three years.” Wesley remarked.
Hearing this, Gwyneth looked at herself in the rearview mirror and couldn’t help but feel the same way. If Liam Luther, the CEO of Luther Corporation, was once attracted to my former appearance, then something must be seriously wrong,’ she thought to herself. But the memory of her disguise made her chuckle out loud.
Three years ago, when Liam was supposed to get married, the bride had run away. Fortunately, Liam’s grandfather asked Gwyneth to be his temporary bride for three years.
Gwyneth thought to herself. ‘It’s finally over, and it’s also a way to repay Liam’s grandfather for saving my life,”
“Boss, where are we going?” Wesley asked, his voice bringing Gwyneth back to the present.
She tapped on the window with her knuckles. “The acquisition banquet should be ready by now,” she said, thinking that it was time to
collect what she was owed.
“Got it.” Wesley said and stepped on the gas pedal without hesitation.
