The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa )

Chapter 21

Chapter 21

“You claim to know our family well after just a few days?” Melissa scoffed. “I see.”

Lisa said firmly, “I know this family lacks integrity, looks down on those less fortunate, and shows unconditional favoritism toward their kind. I can’t stay here any longer.”

She continued, “You accused me of stealing a missing necklace today. What if something else goes missing tomorrow? Will you accuse me again? Today, the police helped me find evidence, but I might not be so lucky next time.”

Lisa grabbed her luggage and walked out. She did not even glance at Leonard as she passed him. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Not only was Leonard stunned, but so was the entire family. After all, their family held a prominent position as one of the wealthiest families in Queenston, and everyone was always careful with their words.

However, this young lady in her early twenties boldly claimed that the Parker family was unjust.

David’s body trembled with anger. He ordered through clenched teeth, “Leonard, stop her.”

‘If she walks out that door and divorces Leonard, the entire city will hear about how my family mistreated their daughter-in- law.’

Leonard was dumbfounded and instinctively grabbed Lisa’s arm. “What are you trying to do now?”

Lisa turned and looked at David warily. “Please don’t tell me you’re permitting Leonard to assault me. The police just left, and if I were to die here, they’d surely suspect you.”

“What are you saying?” The corners of Leonard’s mouth twitched as he wondered what went through the young lady’s mind.

‘Does she think she’ll die here? That just shows she believes my family to be malicious.’

“Am I wrong? Then why won’t you let me go? You don’t like me, and we won’t get along even if your parents force us to live together.” Lisa saw that they did not intend to harm her, and the vigilance in her eyes gradually eased.

Leonard witnessed the unmistakable expression in her eyes, leaving him utterly speechless.

‘Did she honestly think we’d kill her? Why would she think of me so poorly? She displayed such remarkable courage that she even defied her parents.’

Leonard had never encountered a woman like Lisa, which piqued his curiosity.

“Just let her go!” Michelle yelled, “We haven’t had a peaceful day since she arrived!”

“Enough!” David glared at her. “Don’t you think today’s incident was embarrassing enough? That girl is mocking our family’s misconduct. Don’t you feel ashamed?”

“I believe our family is just fine,” Michelle countered, unconvinced.

“Go and apologize to her,” David commanded.

Lisa’s eyes widened in surprise. She had anticipated David to want to uphold his dignity, but his response caught her off guard.

“You want me to apologize to her?” Michelle seemed incredulous and distressed. “Does she deserve it?”

“Are you going to accept Lisa calling us childish and saying we’re incapable of apologizing?” David’s gaze turned sharp as he warned, “Apologize or face the consequences.”

Michelle’s heart pounded. After living with her father-in-law for over twenty years, she knew the depth of his anger. Still, she remained unwilling and unconvinced.
