The Mark of an Alpha

Chapter 52

A wave of emotions takes over my body.

With trembling hands, I try to cover my face but there is no use.

“What’s the matter?” Hunter pulls me closer to him as I heave and try to control my emotions.

Hunter tries to take my pain away but I shove my body away from him.

That stupid guy has too much power over me the only people that have made me cry has been Marcus and my father.

“I h-h-hate him,” I stutter as Hunter grabs hold of my shoulders and pulls me into his chest. He kisses the top of my head as he murmurs quietly. I can feel my emotions drifting away from me with his touch.

Hunter stops for a moment as he allows it all to sink in.

“Storm,” he sighs and I nod. “Come on we’re going home right now,” Hunter lifts up my chin to look at him. “Pack your stuff this is worse than I thought!”

“N-n-no,” I shake my head vigorously, “I need to show him how a pack is meant to be run. He’s just a monster.” I pull away from Hunter and bury my face into the pillow. I do not want him to take my feelings away I want them to fuel me when I see him again.

“Melany, listen he is the alpha and we can’t let him get under our skin. What did he do now that made you like this?” Hunter hovers over me trying to make me open up.

“He punishes his omega because he helped me out. He is a dictator.” I scream into the pillow making my voice muffled.

“I know a shorter version of that word that would fit him perfectly,” my sobbing laughter makes him grin I do not have to look at him to know that I can sense it on him.

There is a knock at the door. “Yes,” Hunter responses.

The door opens and I see the butler. “Breakfast is served. Both your betas are down already,” the butler turns on his heels and walks out.

“Do you want me to bring you some food?” Hunter tilts his head to the side and I swallow down painfully.

"No. I want to face that jerk," I wipe away my tears. "I want him to see that I am not scared of him and his antics."

Hunter takes a shower and then I do. We both dress casual. I make a side braid while he sports his usual messy hair. We are both wearing jeans, he has a black v cut shirt I, on the other hand, have a black long sleeve, and I wear my black and white vans as he wears his black and white converse.

Hunter is happy that we are matching. He takes my hand as we walk down the hall. There are people talking in the hall and they stare and talk, making it painfully obvious that they are talking about us but Hunter takes my mind off of them. He swings our hands playfully as I look over at him.

We enter the dining hall. Andrew and Ken are sitting in the middle of the table. My eyes dart to towards the front and Angie is serving Andrew.

“Where’s Blondie?” I ask Ken when we reach them.

Ken narrows his eyes and looks away from me as if he did not hear me.

He caught her making out with a waiter.

Yikes.

Andrew nods and looks over at Angie.

“Sit down I’ll serve you,” I tell Hunter and he mouths thanks.

I walk towards the buffet table. There are so many options eggs, bacon, waffles, pancakes, sausage, fruit, biscuits and gravy, danish, and much more.

I grab two plates to serve us. Hunter’s plate I give him eggs, pancakes, and bacon. I know he likes that. I grab some biscuit and gravy and some bacon for me. I take our plates to our table and then head back to get our beverages.

I am not sure how Hunter takes his coffee so I serve both of us some orange juice. The sound of more people entering echoes in the giant hall. I turn and the condensation on the glass would be a reason for the cups to slip out of my fingers but it is not that.

Derek walks in with Zeke on his right and Calvin on his left. The glasses break at my feet as the juice splatters everywhere.

“Oh my god,” the words rush out of me.

That asshole!

My wolf wants to go after Derek. Calvin’s lip is busted and his cheek is bruised. The worse of it is his eye it swelled shut and it appears that he is not healing. Calvin’s facelifts a bit at the noise and his eye catches mine.

He didn’t deserve this.

He gives me a small smile.

“Calvin, are you okay?” My feet have a mind of their own as they rush to him forgetting about the mess I made.

He puts his hands up gesturing for me to stop, “I’m fine.”

“You sure as hell don’t look fine!” I snap.

Calvin’s eyes go to Derek and I turn to look at him.

“Can Calvin have breakfast with me or is that against the rules as well!” I snap at him.

“My omega can have breakfast with whoever he wants.” He hisses and his blue eyes smolder mine but I do not let that detour me.

“Calvin, you’re having breakfast with me. I’ll even serve you some food sit with Andrew and Hunter.” Calvin hesitates for a second but walks in their direction.

I go back to the buffet table and I can feel someone burning two holes at the back of my head. I grab a plate ignoring the feeling. I grab a bit of everything and then turn just to come face to face with Derek.

“What do you want?” The words make their way through my stiff lips.

“Calvin is a mere omega, the lowest ranking of the pack, why are you serving him?” I can feel the wind being knocked out of me. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Calvin is a friend and I do what I can for a friend I don’t look at their ranking.”

Ranking means nothing when it is someone you care for. Calvin might be someone new to me but I feel as if I could protect him and I will.

“Why are you mad? I did what I always do. I run my pack with an iron fist.” He looks at me as if I were an alien.

“That’s your problem you know that. You run it with an iron fist making your packs life a living hell.”

“They are living the life that many people would die for. They have an unlimited supply of money, a roof over their heads, food, and most importantly my protection.” He counts them out on his hand as if my mind could not register it audibly so he has to give me a visual.

“I would rather face anything out there by myself,” I point in a general direction, “than be abused by my ‘protector’.”

His jaw clenches and unclenches. He takes a deep breath from his nose and walks away not saying another word.

I take Calvin’s plate to him. “Here you go.”

“Thanks,” he mutters.

“How are you feeling?” He shrugs. “Your wolf will heal you in no time.”

“No, when its punishment from the alpha it takes about the same time as a human to heal.”

I turn and look at Derek at the head of the table. He is staring at me as well I narrow my eyes at him hoping he would choke on whatever he is eating.

“Mel, can’t you help him with your power,” Andrew whispers as his eyes dart around checking if anyone is listening.

“I don’t know, maybe? Would you mind?” Calvin shakes his head.

I take a deep breath calming myself. I lift my hands up place one on his bruised cheek and my other hand on the jawline on his other side. He closes his eyes and relaxes under my touch.

“Wow Melany, your eyes are beautiful.” I look over at Angie and she looks at me in awe.

“My wolf is stirring.” Calvin does not open his eyes. My body tingles.

You need more power since it was because of the alpha of alphas that he is hurt.

She jumps to my core again and Calvin’s eyes shoot open his black eyes somehow manage to go darker. His swelling starts going down right before my eyes as his lip starts healing.

Calvin seems lost, his eyes are unfocused, as he stares off to space. My wolf snaps out of my core and the sensation makes my hand flinch back as I gasp.

Calvin’s eyes focus on me, “That was amazing.” Calvin looks almost like his old self his eye needs to go down some more but at least we can see his eye. “Thank you, Alpha Blake.”

“You’re welcome.” I smile at him.

“We all need to eat up before we are sent out today.” Calvin sighs.

“What’s happening today?” Hunter asks.

“Today is the challenging round. Where ten names are randomly chosen and they fight. In human form to see who is the more powerful alpha other than...” His head nods towards Derek.

“So we’re fighting.” I sigh.

“If you get chosen some never get to fight while others fight multiple times.”

Let’s see if lady luck is on our side.

“How does this work?” Andrew asks.

“There is a container with each alpha’s name on a paper. There are five papers with each of your names.”

“Great,” Hunter and I groan in unison.

Melany this is going to suck.

I know it is.
