Chapter 47
Andrew tries his best to keep the two alphas on his table distracted.
Hunter seems as if he cannot relax even if his life depended on it.
I try to pay attention to the people around me but when I feel his stare there is no fighting it anymore.
Our eyes are on each other once again. His attention is on me until a blonde-haired girl walks to his side and wraps her arms around his waist. Her brown eyes go to me as they glare at me unhappily.
“She’s his date? Wow!” Andrew says and I turn to look at him as Angie looks at him. Her jaw drop. “I mean she’s pretty but she has nothing on you two.” He tries to recover but I hear Angie growl angrily.
“Why doesn’t he stick to his date instead?” Hunter seethes and sinks into his seat like a bored child.
“Because he is looking for his second mate,” Angie shrugs as if it is nothing.
What is up with this girl?
“What do you mean a second mate,” we all blurt out in unison. Angie looks at us as if we are crazy.
“Yes. His first mate turned out to be a slut or something, and when he found out he was next in line to be alpha he dumped her like yesterday’s trash.” Her lip turns down into a frown.
“Just like that,” I ask, “breaking the mate bond isn’t that easy. How do you know all of this?”
“I went to the bathroom where she was at,” Angie’s eyes go to the blonde and then she continues, “You know us, girls, once we hate someone we talk bad about her to anyone who listens. Some brunette told me she isn’t even here with him but he doesn’t want to come off as an ass at the Moonlight Ball and kick her out.”
“Too late for that,” I mutter.
“Speaking about the bathroom I still have to go,” she tells Andrew.
“You just went!” He states and looks at her as if she has a bladder problem.
“Well things in there got a little too heated and I had to leave,” she hisses at him.
“Heated,” I ask and she nods.
“Ken seems to not be able to read the sign ‘Woman’ hanging in front of the door and I left before I witnessed more than I had too,” she sighs.
“Ken is in the woman’s bathroom?” Hunter looks irritated.
Angie nods.
Three minutes later Ken and Blondie number one come and sit at the table. Blondie is fixing her dress as she sits down. Hunter glares at Ken and he knows that he messed up. They must be linking each other because Ken lowers his head even more.
The waiter comes to our table once again. “Alphas' your seats are ready. Betas' we will come for you when it is your turn.”
Hunter gets up and helps me out yet again he intertwines our fingers and we walk together to the dining hall behind the waiter.
There is a massively long table and of course at the head of the table is Derek with blondie to the side of him. There is two male behind him at a closer view they seem to be identical twins dark-haired, black hollow eyes, and young-looking wolves. They stand stiffly behind Derek their arms crossed behind their back as they take in everyone walking in. They must be his beta and omega.
Derek’s presence can only be ignored for a few seconds as my eyes go to him. His eyes go to us and then to our hands. Hunter’s grip tightens and I give him a gentle squeeze.
“You’ll be sitting next to the alpha at his request.” The waiter walks us up to Derek but makes no motion of helping me in. My name is written in calligraphy on a folded note atop the plate.
Hunter sits next to me as I am across the blonde.
“Hello I’m Britney,” she gives me a fake smile. Derek puts his forearm on the table and leans to the side completely ignoring Britney and giving us his attention.
“Alpha Hunter and Alpha Blake,” Hunter emphasizes on the alpha part on my name.
“How does it feel to be a big dog in a world dominated by males?” Derek asks suddenly.
The chatter around us seems to quiet down a bit. “Well with my pack I feel normal, here not so much,” I shrug and Derek smiles. He wanted me to falter at his question.
“In a world dominated by males, she still outshines most of us doesn’t she Alpha Storm,” Hunter states with a smug smile on his face.
“Does she,” he questions.
“Well think about it as you already know she has the second biggest pack and that’s because she gained a rogue pack. Even the most insane, ruthless, and animalistic of wolves decided to join the Moonless Pack. They saw what we all see a strong, confident, and courageous alpha when she needs to be and a kind and caring human all the time.”
“You don’t say.” Derek’s eyes lock mine once again.
“She is one in a lifetime type of alpha,” his hand covers mine warming me up all over.
Derek’s eyes are on me and I stare back at him not wanting to show him any more weakness. “That she is.” He mutters but I hear him clearly.
Melany? Andrew fills my mind.
Yes!
Are you okay? You look tense.
Do I?
Well, I am here if you need me.
Thanks.
I can feel Andrew’s presence within me and Hunter is by my side. I take a deep breath and relax.
The sound of the doors bursting open does not make me flinch. The waiters make their way to the people with plates in their hands. Blondie clears her throat and leans towards Derek draping her hand on his shoulder.
“I see that you are unmated,” she states the obvious. I look at her my expression impassive.
“As well as you,” I smirk at her and turn to look at Hunter, who smiles at me, he wraps his arm around me pulling me closer to him and he kisses my temple.
At least you have someone that shows affection towards you!
My wolf does not like her at all. She wants all the attention on her and she will do anything to get it. This is Alpha Derek’s first all-out party where he gets to meet all his fellow pack members and this girl just wants the title of Luna.
The true luna needs to be loyal, humble, and overall selfless things that appear to be missing from Blondie.
“And you’re not marked?” She tries to retaliate.
“I don’t need to be marked to let anyone know I am spoken for,” Hunter laughs but he tries to cover it with a cough and Derek’s eyes grow wide but he does not defend her.
“My scent is all over you,” Hunter says making my gaze go to him as he stares back at me with loving eyes.
“Mine is all over you as well.”
The growl makes me turn to the blonde and she rolls her eyes in annoyance.
Come at me, all I need is an indication and I’ll show you why we’re alphas!
She must know she is pushing it because she stays sitting with her head lowered. The waiters come to us with our plates. The alpha is served last as a sign he puts his packs needs before his.
We eat in silence. Britney whispers into Derek’s ear as he just nods back at her. Hunter keeps me entertained with his silly faces trying to make me not look at Derek.
“Alpha Blake,” a young man looks at me. His pale skin and dark eyes stand out. “Can I ask you some questions?” I stare at him unsure.
“You may,” I mentally groan at the man I cannot even have a quiet dinner with these people.
“You recently gained more wolves into your pack is that correct?” He states.
“Yes.” I want to add that he can ask anyone in my pack that and they can answer him as well.
“Is it true that they were rogues?” His eyes narrow and my eyes narrow back at him.
“That is also true,” I state rather harsher than I want to.
“I just want to know how you can trust them. I heard you killed some of them before they decide to join you.” Seriously now you want to talk about this.
Derek just like the rest of the people listening straighten themselves.
I swallow, “Well they know that if they try to cross the line I won’t hesitate to do what is best for my pack. I may be a she-wolf but they know not to take me lightly. I am their alpha at the moment and they were there when I killed some of their pack members but I never made them come to my side they decided that on their own.”
“Is it true that the rogues were being controlled by your mate?” The man asks.
“Ex, ex-mate and yes he was controlling them with his lies.”
“Hmm,” he narrows his eyes at me even more and I do the same. He is making me put my business out, making me air my dirty laundry. “So it’s true that you broke your mate bond and your pack killed him off.”
My jaw clenches, “Yes.” There is a gasp from most of the people around. The chatter starts up again with me being the topic.
You’re fine, Melany. You had a decision to make and you made it.
“You seem to be the center of attention Alpha Blake.” Derek grabs his glass of wine and swirls it around and takes a sip of his drink.
“Well I am an enigma,” I hiss at Derek but my wolf tries to control my annoyance.
It is Derek’s turn to be in the hot seat!
