Chapter 3779
Charlie had invited her in, so although Kathleen felt helpless, she had no choice but to enter.
Charlie turned to Julian and invited him to join them, enthusiastic. "Sir, why don't you come and join us as well? Don't be shy!"
Julian shook his head and rejected politely, "Thank you, Mr. Wade. I'm just a driver, so I should probably wait outside."
Charlie went with the flow and nodded understandings. "In that case, we'll leave you alone."
Julian quickly added, "Thank you, Mr. Wade."
Charlie gave him a small smile before entering the private room with Kathleen.
Though it was called a private room, in reality, it was just an ordinary brick house. The room wasn't very huge, but was relatively empty. There was a square earthen stove built against the wall facing the door.
The stove was full of firewood, flames burning vigorously. The large iron pot above was covered with a wooden lid, but steam was constantly bubbling out from all sides.
A strong meaty aroma filled the entire room. For some unknown reason, Kathleen started drooling uncontrollably as soon as the strong meaty aroma hit
her.
She brought out a small bottle of mineral water from her bag and took a light sip to hide her awkwardness. At the same time, she felt puzzled and thought to herself, 'That goose meat smells too good! Can food made in this place actually taste delicious?'
While Kathleen was busy being confused, Charlie pointed at one of the chairs and invited her to have a seat. "Ms. Jane, please have a seat. I'm not sure if the food here will suit your taste. I was initially looking for a high-end fine dining restaurant, but I heard people say that French food was just like the Rolls-Royce in fine dining."
"I was afraid that you might find the French food here mediocre, since you grew up in France. That's why I've decided to show you the local specialties instead. I hope you don't dislike it. Still, do let me know if it doesn't suit your taste. It's not too late for us to go to another restaurant in the city."
Charlie blabbered nonsense as he chatted, but his words moved Kathleen.
She thought that Charlie was being sincere and thoughtful. However, she had no clue that he was simply making up a story spontaneously. The truth was, he had never studied about the best fine dining restaurant in Aurous Hill. Besides, he had no plans to take Kathleen to any high-end restaurant.
Kathleen did not realize that Charlie was just bluffing. She was very touched, and replied politely with a delighted smile, "Mr. Wade, that's so kind of you. I've always wanted to try the local delicacy of a new place."
Charlie nodded, smiling as well. "That's great! This is our local delicacy."
Having said that, he removed the lid from the pot, releasing a large cloud of water vapor into the ceiling. A stronger meaty aroma filled their senses at that instant.
Kathleen watched the meat boiling in the pot. The pot of stewed goose meat was completely browned, and kept turning around. There were also some pork belly slices inside.
She had grown up in the United
States, and rarely ate pork. She mostly ate beef and chicken, and usually ate chicken breasts with low calories. The only pork she ate in her life was bacon, which was essentially processed pork. She was very concerned to see an actual pork belly, and found it distasteful.
But when she saw the pork belly tumbling in the pot, strangely enough, she became curious about the taste.
Charlie noticed her slow actions, and
helped fill the plate in front of her
with some goose meat. He
explained with a warm smile, "I was afraid that a lady like you would be concerned about your image when eating the goose meat, so I O specifically told the cook to chop the meat into smaller pieces You can give it a try first. Here, do taste it"
Then, Charlie added quickly, "By the way, I haven't used the fork yet. Please don't mind it." "No, don't worry. It's fine." Kathleen hurriedly shook her head. She felt a little shy when Charlie took the initiative to serve her food. In the meantime, Charlie picked up a piece of pork belly and put it on her plate. "The goose stewed with pork belly is delicious, but the pork belly itself is even more delicious. You should also try it."
"You must try the stewed beans here too. You won't find such a dish in France!"
