Chapter The Fairy
Peter felt at ease by her voice but soon he lost in her eyes as they shone worried and carrying. Peter gulped and stood up while dusting himself off while she was looking at him with a kind smile.
“Well, I came from a door and when I looked back behind me, the door was gone, so to answer your question I am lost and I came from a door. I know that sounds stupid, me coming from a door.” Said Peter while he was nervous and his hands fiddled around a little as she still smiled at him but had a little confusion in her golden eyes.
“Ah, I see, so I am guessing you lost this door. Am I right?” She asked as Peter nodded.
“Well, I can help you find your door um…” she said as Peter smiled a little.
“Peter, Peter Williams.” Said Peter as she giggled a little.
“What a funny last name Williams, my name is Raine Astar.” Raine said as Peter nodded.
“Just call me Peter, and your last name is funny as well. Astar, I have never heard a last name like that before.” Said Peter, while crossing his arms as Raine’s smile faded a little.
“Well, I guess you never have unique and powerful last names.” Raine told Peter as he nodded.
“Okay, you’re right, sorry. Now, how do we find the door?” Peter asked while Raine thought a bit.
“Well, I am a fast fairy and you are um… What are you actually? An elf with pointy ears?” Ask Raine as Peter laughed softly while shaking his head.
“No, I am no elf. I am a human. A man mostly.” Peter told her as she gasped and backed away from him a little.
“Human?! Around here? I thought all of the men were dead.” Raine said with fear in her voice and Peter saw this as he held up his hands slowly.
“I have not come here to harm you. I’m just lost and don’t know where I am. All I want to do is get home.” Peter said in a soft voice.Raine can tell he was telling the truth as she felt at ease but still has her guard up as there is a law about man. If anyone sees a man or a human, they need to report to the queen right away. But Raine helped Peter out as she can tell he was a nice man, not one of those evil men that kill things in their paths.
“Well Peter, let’s go find that door then.” Raine said with a smile and led the way while Peter followed but besides her so he won’t step on her wings.Peter and Raine walked out of the woods and back to the field of grass, as the sky was turning darker. Raine looks around the place with her eyes like hawks’ eyes that can see very far. Peter was looking around as he hoped the door would reappear so he could go home, but sadly, he did not see the door, including Raine. The sky was now pitch black and Raine knew what lurked in the dark so she led Peter to her place that was back in the woods and in a tree. The home was out of tree logs, sticks and vines with flowers on them. The inside was just like a normal home, but without electronics. Raine walked over to the firepit and started the fire. It made dry dirt for the chimney, including on her floor of her home. Peter looked around the place as it felt like home to him. Raine puts a pot over the fire and starts making something to eat while Peter looks around the place some more. There were books he had never heard and the words on the covers were in a different language that he had not seen before. Peter saw a picture of two people with the same king of horns but of different colors.
“Who are these two?” Ask Peter.Raine looked over and looked at the picture before focusing on the cooking food. So many things are going through Raine’s mind right now, how they raised her before they died by the hands on man.
“Those two were my ma and da, both of them were brutally killed by man, and that was during the war.” Raine said in a quiet voice and Peter looked at her with sad eyes.
“I’m sorry about that.” Said Peter as he walked over and sat down by the fire to get the warmth. “Is that why you were afraid of me when I said I was human?”
“Yes, you see… after the war all men were gone, and it’s only the folks that live in Zarlakarla now.” Raine said as Peter looked at her while listening to her. “But there is one rule: if anyone sees a man, they have to report it to the queen.” Peter gulped. He was afraid that she would turn him in. “But I decided not to.”It shocked Peter to hear this. He wonders why she decided not to hand him over to the queen. He wanted to ask but was afraid so he just looked at the flames of the fire that were dancing and clacking, he could smell the fire like he was at a bonfire. Raine looks at Peter as she looks at his clothes, that are a plain white shirt and jeans with white socks on. She also notices how his hair looks floppy and soft as she wonders what his hair feels, if it feels the same like hers or not, then she looks at his green eyes. They shine with pride, wonder and carrying. Raine wonders why she is not going to the queen and telling her that a man is in their world, but she knows it’s not because he is kind, but she felt some kind of power in him. Like magic. She looks away and checks the food as it is ready. (They are having some soup flavored water.) Putting in two bowls before handing one to Peter and holding the other one. Peter looked at the water in the bowl as he looked up and saw Raine drinking her soup. Looking back down at the water in the bowl, he places his lips on the bowl and tips it back and starts drinking it. The flavored water tastes like watermelon then the sweet taste of honey. Peter pulled the bowl away from his lips while licking his lips, as he never tasted that kind of water before.
“I will get something for you to sleep in tonight. Then in the morning we can go out and look for that door.” Raine said while getting up and placed her bowl on the counter near a sink.Peter stayed and put his bowl next to hers, then sat back down where he was till Raine came back. Raine was carrying pillows that are purple and big heavy comforters that are blue and orange, placing them on the ground as Peter looked at the big heavy comforter and looked at Raine.
“It gets cool at night, so these will keep you warm.” Said Raine. She heads off somewhere that her room is at.Peter stood up and walked over to the pillow and fluffed it up before laying down on the big comforter and then covering himself with it. He could feel the warmth of the comforter as his eyelids were getting heavy. He tries to stay up, but he slowly falls asleep. Raine came back but stopped when she saw Peter asleep. With a wave of her hand, the fire blows out, then she heads off back to her room to get some sleep.
