Chapter 28 The Ball
Luna awoke to the sound of music coming from the Alpha’s house. “What is that? I thought the ball was not until tonight?” Luna croaked as she dragged herself downstairs half asleep. “The DJ must be trying out the acoustics in the main ballroom. Everything has to be perfect. I forgot that was your first ball.” He smiled. “Things have been happening lately to threaten the peace among the packs and so it is very important that the Lycan prince finds a mate in order to take over in the event anything were to happen to his father. It is tradition that then the prince comes of age he chooses a mate. Since our packs have become one then we start within the pack and if a mate is not found then we extend the courtesy to the other packs.”
As she sat down having breakfast her uncle presented her with a set of diamond necklace with accompanying earrings. Luna almost fell off her chair when she saw them. “Are those real? Oh, they're so beautiful. They will fit perfectly with my dress.” She stared wide eyed at the set and smiled to herself. She wondered what this prince looked like but her thoughts wandered over to Luca. She wondered what he would think if he could see her all dressed up like this, whether he would be impressed. “Your parents would be so proud of you.” Lucian told her. She came back to reality and smiled at him. She left the breakfast table and went to shower as she had so many things to do to get ready for the ball tonight. She wanted to do her best if she didn't get picked then it wouldn't be for lack of trying.
She got dressed and went downstairs to await the beautician who had to do her nails, someone else had to come to do her makeup and hair later that afternoon. She had to brush up on her ballroom dancing with her uncle a bit later. He had so much to do. It was already after 10 and the beautician was running late. She called and was not getting through. She had to turn to her uncle for help. He made some calls and got someone that the alpha normally uses. As she was just done with the Alpha's companion, she would be by in about fifteen minutes. That was a great save. She couldn't afford to show up with hideous toes when everyone would be well groomed. She managed to have her manicure, pedicure and facial. She had a late lunch after which she spent the afternoon dancing with her uncle. That took them int a little after 5pm when she went to shower to await her stylist and makeup artist. She could have done her own makeup but her uncle insisted. After they were done with Luna it was almost 7pm and she had to get dressed. She put on her dress, shoes and accessories and looked at herself in the full-length mirror and couldn't recognize the person looking back at her. She looked like royalty. “Well, I never thought I could look this good. Damn” She heard her uncle calling to her and she knew that it was time to leave. As Luna emerged from the staircase Lucian looked at his niece with tears of joy in his eyes. “Luna my dear you look breathtaking.” He stretched out his hand to take hers and they left for the Lycan’s house in one of the cars provided by the Lycan prince.
When Luna emerged from the car she was escorted to the ballroom by her uncle and their arrival was announced by an announcer upon entry into the great hall. Her uncle then had to leave her to take his seat at the main table and as she was one of the contenders could not sit with him. Instead, she was led to a table with some other girls who seemed to be taking this too seriously. Luna introduced herself and it was only then that she realized that Nina was seated at her table.
Nina smiled or rather smirked at her and flung her hair back revealing her perky breasts through the nearly transparent lace dress that she was wearing. She was a beauty but could not compare to Luna. Luna thought that she looked confident leading her to believe that she may have already been chosen by the young Lycan. “Well then if this is the case then I may as well relax and enjoy the party. No sense going out of my way to please someone whose mind is already made up.” She thought to herself. She was surprised that she could hear Nina's voice though she was seated at the far end of the table. she thought to herself “This girl is so confident even snobby.” There and then, Luna was convinced that she did not like her. She could feel a negative energy emanating from her and she did not like it. She was not like the other girls at this ball she was almost evil. Luna shot her a glance and returned her gaze to the main table when the arrival of the Lycan Prince's son was announced. Everyone got up and looked toward the entrance
Luna could not get a look at him until he had taken his seat at the main table. As she looked to the table, she saw him wave at Nina as she smiled sweetly. All the other girls mumbled in envy. Right then as he saw Lucian and got up from his seat to introduce himself, he realized that Lucian was the coach. His heart danced with eagerness and he tried to settle himself as he itched to ask the question that had been burning inside him since Luna left Attica. “aren't you Lucian coach Lucian, Luna's uncle?” His father interrupted saying “Lucian this is my son, Luca, I'm not sure whether you may have met him as he attended Attica also. Luca this is Lucian an old friend from Full moon pack. His family like ours is very important and esteemed which is why he has been made one of my Alphas. We need all the help we can get if we are to avoid or win this threat.”
Luca smiled at Lucian and asked whether Luna was here. And before he could get an answer Soccorah approached and grabbed him by the arm and asked him to dance with her. “How bold!" one girl said with sarcasm and smirked. He followed her to the dancefloor, and they danced to a waltz. Everyone's eyes were on them. Luna sat at her table frozen as she realized that the prince's son, the Lycan was her Luca. Luna's heart raced and she could feel her blood boil. She was infuriated that Luca had a history with Nina and she was even more peeved that he was with her and hadn't yet noticed her. He smiled at Nina who was seated at her table but had not noticed her though she could not be missed. She got up from the table and walked out into the terrace.
