Chapter 44
Felicity POV.
The war between the alpha clans was just beginning, and I was caught in the middle of it. I didn't know if I would ever feel safe again or if I would be constantly looking over my shoulder, wondering when they would come for me and my child. But one thing was for sure: I would do whatever it took to protect my baby and survive in this dangerous world.
I held my precious little one close to my chest as I ran through the dense forest. The fog hung heavily in the air, making it hard to see where I was going, but I couldn't stop. I had to keep going, keep moving, to get away from the danger that was nipping at my heels. My heart was pounding in my chest, and my legs burned with exertion, but I knew I couldn't slow down. Every moment I spent on the ground was a moment I was vulnerable to attack.
Finally, when I couldn't run any longer, I stumbled to a stop and sank down onto the roots of a tree. My breath came in gasps, and my body trembled with exhaustion and fear. But my baby was safe in my arms, and that was all that mattered.
I shifted my little one to my b****t, and he latched on hungrily. I began to sing to him a sweet, soothing melody that I had learned from my own mother. The sound of my voice and the warmth of my body seemed to calm him, and I felt a sense of peace settle over me, even in the midst of this chaos.
For a few precious moments, I forgot about the war, the danger, the fear. All that mattered was this tiny, beautiful creature who depended on me for everything. I closed my eyes and sank into the music, letting myself be carried away by the sound of my own voice. But I knew I couldn't stay there forever. Eventually, I would have to get up and move again, to keep my child safe from harm. But for now, in this moment, I let myself rest and breathe and be present with my baby, cherishing these fleeting moments of peace in the midst of turmoil.
I was peacefully resting with my baby snuggled up against my back when I heard an unexpected noise. My confusion quickly turned to concern as I realized that the sound wasn't just my imagination. It was the unmistakable snap of a tree branch being broken. My senses instantly went into alert mode, and I slowly got up, trying not to disturb my sleeping baby. I quickly wrapped an old piece of fabric I had found in the forest around my body, placing my baby on my back, and tying him tightly so that he would stay safe. Through the thick fog blocking my view, I saw a shadowy figure approaching me. My heart rate skyrocketed as a cold shiver ran through my body.
My heart raced with anxiety.
My muscles tensed as I tried to prepare myself for any possible danger.
My heart skipped a beat as I heard a voice call out, "Who's there? Is it you, Felicity?"
It sounded familiar, but I couldn't quite place it.
There was a tick in my head and, suddenly, I recognized the voice as Maximus' voice. Oooh My God! I wasn't ready to face him yet, so I began to flee. However, when he started to pursue me, I stopped in my tracks.
I hoped that he wasn't following me with a weapon, so I made myself known and turned around to face him. I could barely make her out through the dense fog, but I knew it was him. My heart felt heavy as I prepared myself for whatever he would say or do. I started backing away, feeling a sense of fear creeping in.
As we moved deeper into the forest, I could hear the person's footsteps growing closer. I was trying to run, but my legs felt heavy, and I stumbled in the undergrowth.
As she got closer, I instinctively stepped back. He called out for me again, and I continued to retreat until we reached a crevasse. I couldn't bring myself to speak, so I just stood there silently, praying that she wouldn't hurt me.
I didn't know what to do, and I could hear my own breathing, heavy with fear.
He stepped closer, very angry.
"Who are you?" He demanded, his voice harsh and angry.
I couldn't speak. I was too scared, and I didn't know how to explain myself. I just stood there, frozen, as he shouted at me.
"Answer me!" he shouted, taking a step closer.
Still no response.
I could feel his anger rising, and I knew that I had to do something to calm him down. But what could I say?
I couldn't bring myself to respond to his messages.
As I looked up at the person walking towards me, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was him, the person I had been trying to avoid for months, the person who had hurt me so badly.
My heart started racing, and I felt a mix of emotions that I couldn't quite put into words. Fear, anger, confusion, and something else, something that made me hesitate for a moment.
When our eyes met, I saw the surprise and shock on his face.
"Felicity?" He whispered, his voice barely audible. "Is it really you?"
I knew I couldn't keep running forever. I had to face him eventually.
As he came closer, I could see the anger in his eyes turn to confusion and then to a strange emotion I couldn't quite place. "Felicity," he said again, as if he couldn't believe I was standing in front of him.
I didn't want to face him, didn't want to let him back into my life, but I couldn't deny that I still felt something for him. "Yes," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
But before I could say anything else, another person got between us, blocking his path. "Who the hell are you?" he demanded, trying to push past her.
I knew this person, knew that she had been trying to protect me from him.
As Maximus tried to push past the person, I watched in relief as she stepped in between us. My heart pounded with recognition as her face turned to me, and I could barely believe my eyes. "Ava? Is that really you?" I asked, my voice trembling with shock and relief.
My voice was laced with concern but relief was evident in my eyes.
She flashed me a small smile, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions. "Yes, Felicity. It's me," she replied.
My mouth hung open in disbelief, I nodded my head, feeling tears begin to form in my eyes as I tried to process what was happening. "Ava, I can't believe it's you. I thought
"I thought you were..." I trailed off, unable to finish the thought.
"I know! We'll talk about that later. Let me take care of you first!" She said in a confident voice.
My mind raced as I tried to understand what she was saying, but before I could ask any more questions, Maximus spoke up.
"Get out of my way and let me through, whoever you are," he snarled.
Ava stepped in front of me protectively. "I won't let you harm her, not again," she said, her tone firm but trembling slightly. "Please, let me talk to him," I said, my voice shaking.
But she refused, insisting that she had to protect me from him.
I had to intervene. "It's okay, let him through," I said, touching Ava's arm gently.
"You don't understand," Maximus said, his voice rising in anger."I need to talk to her. Now."
I didn't know what to do, didn't know how to handle this situation. All I knew was that I couldn't let him hurt me again.
Ava stood strong, defying the tyrant with a fierce glint in her eyes.
"I know who you are," she declared, her voice unwavering. "You're the reason behind all of our suffering. You won't lay a finger on Felicity."
I felt a pang of fear for us,I had experienced firsthand his cruel and merciless treatment of us Lycans who dared to oppose him. Yet here I was, powerless as he approached us once again.
But Ava did not flinch, standing her ground against the towering figure before us.
The king sneered, his lips curling into a malicious smile. "You dare to defy me, little rebel?" he spat. "I am the Lycan king, and you will pay for your insolence."
But still, Ava did not waver. She stood strong, her eyes burning with determination.
"You're making a mistake," he growled. "Move out of my way, or you'll regret it."
But Ava stood her ground, unafraid. "I'm not afraid of you," she said. "You're nothing but a bully."
He laughed at her insolence, and pushed her aside. "Get out of my way, or I'll make you regret it," he said, advancing towards me.
But Ava got up quickly and put herself back in front of him, preventing him from passing. "You're not going anywhere near her," she said, her voice firm.
He was getting angrier by the second. "You can't stop me," he said, trying to push her aside again. "Felicity is mine."
As Ava waved at me to run away, I knew I had to trust her. I turned and sprinted as fast as I could. But as I looked back, I saw the rage in the eyes of the Lycan chasing after me.
I could hear his footsteps getting closer, and my heart was pounding in my chest. Suddenly, I heard a loud thud and a cry of pain. I turned to see Maximus standing over Ava, who was on the ground writhing in pain. "You'll pay for what you did to my friend," Ava spat, her eyes flashing with fury.
I knew I should feel grateful to Ava for saving me again, but I also felt guilty leaving her to face the Lycan King alone. I wanted to go back and help her, but Ava signaled for me to keep running.
As I ran, I could hear Maximus taunting Ava, telling her that she couldn't face her alone. And at that moment, I knew that Ava was indeed strong and brave to stand up to that monster.
I kept running, determined to find help for Ava and to make sure that justice was served. I knew that we couldn't let Maximus get away with what she did to us.
