Chapter 38
Felicity POV.
Suddenly, I heard a loud noise coming from another part of the factory. I guessed that Alpha Zander's henchmen had found something. They all ran in that direction, leaving me alone. I waited a few moments before daring to peek out of my hiding spot. Thankfully, the coast was clear. I guessed that whatever they found had diverted their attention.
I breathed a sigh of relief as I hugged my baby close to me. We are safe, for now. But I knew we had to keep moving and stay one step ahead of Alpha Zander and his henchmen. "We have to keep going, baby," I whispered to my son. "We can't let them catch us."
I gently placed my baby back in his makeshift carrier and began to make my way out of the factory. With every step I took, I knew we were one step closer to freedom. "Hey, are you okay?" I heard a voice outside the factory.
I panicked, not knowing what to do. I held my son close, trying to keep him quiet.
"Please, I need help," I whispered, knowing that I had no other choice.
The man cautiously approached the factory, his hand resting on his weapon. He saw my son in my arms and stopped.
"Please, help me," I begged, tears streaming down my face.
The man looked torn for a moment before finally nodding. "I'll help you," he said. "But we have to go. Those men will be back soon."
I nodded, clutching my baby tightly as he helped me to my feet.
Together, we made our way out of the forest and to safety. It was a long road ahead, but at least I had my little boy to protect and care for.
I know I had just been caught by Alpha Zander because I had trusted him, but now I had no choice, it was trust or die, and I had chosen to trust him.
"Thank you so much," I said, wiping away my tears. "I don't know what I would have done without your help."
"It's okay," the man replied. "No one should ever have to go through what you just did. I'm just glad I was able to assist."
We walked in silence for a while before I finally asked, "What's your name?"
"Adam," he said with a small smile. "What's yours?"
"I'm Sarah," I replied, smiling back at him. "Thank you again for everything, Adam."
"No problem, Sarah," he said. "We'll get through this together."
As we continued walking, Adam suddenly stopped and turned to me. "Sarah, I know this may sound strange, but would you like to come to my house? You and your son can stay there for as long as you need."
I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I could trust another stranger, but something about Adam made me feel safe. "Thank you, that would be amazing," I said, feeling grateful for his kindness.
We arrived at Adam's house, and I couldn't help but feel a little nervous as we approached.
Adam led me to a small house nestled in the trees. As we approached, I could see a woman and three children running out to greet us.
"Who's this, Adam?" the woman asked with a kind smile.
"This is Sarah, she needs our help," Adam replied.
"Of course, come on in," she said, ushering us inside.
As we entered, I could see that the house was small, but cozy.
However, as soon as we walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles from Adam's wife and three children.
The woman gave me a warm hug and introduced herself as Martha. The children, two boys and a girl, gathered around me with wide eyes.
"Sarah, this is my wife, Maria, and my children, Michael, Emma, and Gabriel," Adam introduced them to me. "They're excited to have new guests."
"I'm Emma, this is Gabriel, and that's Michael," the oldest girl said, pointing to each of her siblings.
"We're happy to have you here," Maria said, leading me to a seat at the table. "Can we get you something to eat? You must be starving!"
I nodded my head in agreement as my stomach growled loudly.
"Thank you so much for having us," I said, feeling relieved to finally be in a safe environment.
"It's no problem at all," Martha said. "Come, sit down and let's get you and your son something to eat."
I couldn't help but feel grateful for the kindness of strangers like Adam and his family. For the first time in what felt like forever, I relaxed a little, knowing that there were still good people in the world.
As we sat down to eat, Adam and Martha filled me in on their lives. They had been childhood friends and married shortly after high school. They owned a small farm outside of town and were raising their children in the peace and quiet of the countryside. I couldn't believe my luck in finding such kind, welcoming people after what I had just been through. As we talked and laughed, I felt a sense of hope for the first time in what felt like forever.
"How did you end up all alone with your baby?" Maria asked me, and Adam stopped eating to hear the answer. I was embarrassed and tried to come up with a lie.
"I was betrayed by someone I trusted," I said softly. "He took everything from me, and I had nowhere else to go.
Adam and Maria exchanged a skeptical look, and I could see their disbelief in their eyes. My heart sank.
"That's a bit vague," Adam said. "Can you tell us more about who this person is?
was?"
I swallowed hard, racking my brain for a convincing response. But then Maria cut in, sensing my discomfort.
"Adam, let's not interrogate her," she said gently. "We don't know what she's been through."
I looked up at Maria, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over me. She was right. I had been through so much, and the last thing I needed was to be grilled like a criminal.
"We're so sorry that happened to you," Maria said, trying to sound sympathetic. Adam nodded in agreement, but I could tell they didn't fully believe my story.
Feeling defeated, I tried to change the subject, feeling grateful that they were being polite enough to pretend to believe me.
After dinner, Martha showed me to a cozy guest room where I could finally rest my weary body. As I climbed into the soft bed, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the kindness of strangers.
Later that evening, as I put my baby to bed, I couldn't help but feel relieved that they had bought my life. But at the same time, I felt guilty for not being completely honest with my new friends. I knew that I would have to tell them the truth eventually, but for now, I was just grateful to have their support.
Tomorrow was a new day, and with these new friends by my side, I knew I could face whatever was to come.
In the middle of the night, I woke up. I sat up in bed, rubbing my tired eyes as
feeling parched. My throat was dry, and my mouth felt as though it was filled with sand. I rolled over, expecting to see my baby sleeping soundly beside me. But when I reached out to touch him, he wasn't there.
Panic set in as I frantically searched next to me.
Tears streamed down my face as I realized what had happened.
Someone had taken my baby in the middle of the night, and I didn't even hear a thing.
