At her words, everyone turned to face the door. A group of people walked in led by two very insanely good looking men and a girl.

The first guy had an air of mischief around him. He had curly dark hair and light brown eyes and he had a face that looked like it was made just for sin and he knew it. He would wink at the girls and the moment they swoon or were caught in his trap, he would smile to himself and look away.

The girl had long silky black hair that was silk pressed until it reached her waist. She was wearing a form–fitted black dress that looked like it was made from the stars and a look on her face that all but screamed ‘stay away from me“.

The last guy, who I know is the prince judging by the air of power and superiority surrounding him, looked like an Adonis carved from stone. His features were chiseled and he was in a dark purple suit that screamed loyalty. He kept his eyes ahead and his nose high like everyone was beneath him. I couldn’t help the magnetic pull I felt towards him and I didn’t take my eyes off him, not even when he took his seat.

“Looks like someone has a crush,” Rachel teased and I lightly punched her in the arm, “it’s okay; you’re not the only one; the prince is easily the hottest guy here.”

“I agree,” we giggled to ourselves but were interrupted by a loud growl. I turned to see Derek who was staring at me with fire in his eyes.

“What is your problem?” Rachel asked but he stayed silent and stared at me intensely.  Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

His eyes told what his mouth wouldn’t. I was his and he didn’t appreciate me talking about another man like that in front of him. I tried to convey with my eyes that I wasn’t his and I didn’t care about his feelings but he didn’t take too lightly to that because he shattered the glass cup in his hand.

The contents of the glass poured all over the table and on Alexis‘ expensive dress

making her shriek. Everyone turned to our table and she rushed to her feet and tried furiously dabbing at the stain but it only made it worse.

“Trouble in paradise Alexis,” Anastasia teased and her face grew red as she ran out. of the hall, “You should go after your girlfriend Derek.”

“Shut up,” he spat in her direction.

The table went quiet for a while save for the whispers between Kate and Alexis‘ other cronies. Their conversations mainly centered around Alexi’s ruined dress and the prince. After a while, Kate stood to her feet.

“I’m going to ask the prince to dance,” she announced, “He could be my mate and this is my

Chance to find out.”

“Good luck,” Rachel began before she dropped her voice to a whisper, “I bet your ten dollars that he rejects her.”

“You’re on,” Anastasia responded with a smile.

I couldn’t join them even if I wanted because I didn’t have enough money but I watched with the same rapt attention as the entire party as she made her their table. She stopped a few feet in front of the prince and spoke to him.

We couldn’t hear what she said but he pointedly ignored her and leaned in to whisper something in his best friend’s ear. She stood there for a full minute even after it was painfully obvious that he was ignoring her.

“Why are you still here?” It was the girl who spoke, “I thought you would have taken the hint by now.”

Kate flushed pink and ran past our table, past a confused Alexis who was just returning and out of the room. Anastasia laughed and handed Rachel a ten dollar bill.

The entire room broke out into whispers and one would have thought that Kate’s embarrassment would be enough to deter other girls but instead it only made them more brazen.

At least four other girls approached the prince to dance and received the same treatment. It made for a great laugh and even greater entertainment. It was the talk of the ball until the guy who came with the prince stood to his feet.

The room went silent as he started walking around and made his way over to our table. His eyes were on me and I silently gripped Rachel’s arm.

He stopped right in front of me, “I’m Lucas,” he extended a hand to me which I quietly shook, “The prince would like for you to join our table.”

“Is there a reason he couldn’t ask by himself?” Derek sneered from his seat, “If he’s so powerful then why can’t he ask her himself.”

“He would rather not bother himself by interacting with lesser beings like yourself.” Somehow he kept his voice cheery and happy as he blatantly insulted Derek then he turned to me, “Will you be coming?”

I turned to Derek who was obviously steaming from the insult and was promising dangerous and painful results should I go with Lucas but my curiosity was greater than my fear of him and I nodded.

He smiled and helped me to my feet and led me over to their table. I cast one backward glance at my table and I saw my friends give me a thumbs up and bright smiles. I kept my eyes off Derek because I didn’t want his bad vibes to ruin my night.

We got to the table and looking at them up close, I felt the hair at the back of my neck stand. The raw power exuding the prince felt almost unbearable to stand. Never in my life have I stood next to a single individual who exudes so much power and authority.

His hair was as dark as night and his eyes were a stormy gray- almost black under the right light. He had long thick lashes and I felt my wolf stir up inside me and begin to murmur. I didn’t want to believe what she was saying and it wasn’t until Lucas coughed that I realized I had been staring at him for too long..l mumbled an apology and took my seat.

“This is Zander and Helena.” Lucas said, “And this is-,”

“I’m Lyla.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Lyla,” Helena stretched out her hand and I gingerly took

She didn’t seem overly affectionate but she wasn’t being as rude to me as she was to the other girls so I took that as a win.

“Would you like to dance Lyla?” I would have never guessed who that voice belonged to if I didn’t see the prince holding out his hand for me to take.

I stared at his hand for longer than I should have before I took it. He clasped mine in a firm grip and led me to the middle of the dance floor.

He positioned one hand at the base of my back and took the lead of the dance. I tried my best to keep up with him and meet his pace. When he realized I was struggling, he pulled me closer and slowed down until I matched his pace.

He towered over me as he danced but he kept his eyes locked with mine and I couldn’t bear to look away. It was like the entire room faded away and it was just us on the dance floor. Everything about him appealed to me and my senses and I wondered how that could be considering I had a mate.

When the dance came to an end he smiled at me, “I want you to leave with us.” I was shocked by his request, “I will explain it all later. Will you come with me?”

I was about to give him my answer when a hand wrapped around my wrist and pulled me away from the prince.

“Like hell she will.”
