The Luna’s Hidden Destiny(Book 2) – Chapter 24
(Mila)
After calling Finn and updating him on the whole situation..he was more than willing to help us out. In fact, he even seemed thrilled about the idea. I don’t know why, but something just didn’t feel right. The urge to stay in our room and order room service became more appealing by the minute.
‘What’s wrong Mila?’
Sadie’s calm voice filled my mind, drawing my attention towards her as we began walking to the elevator.
‘Something feels..off.’
I admitted, maybe I was just unsettled by this whole thing, to begin with..but I am beginning to realize my gut feelings are usually right.
‘Just stay by me no matter what.’
She reached over, gripping my hand gently before squeezing it in a comforting motion.
‘By the way, we have a lot to catch up on.’
I peered over at her while a sly smile formed on my lips. I couldn’t help but admire the mark that was now branded on her neck. She wore a white sweater with jeans and her hair was styled effortlessly. Her curls were always so gorgeous and untamed and her skin was practically glowing. She looked flawless and I knew I wasn’t the only one who thought so. Tristan hadn’t stopped gawking at her since the moment they arrived.
It was the most amazing thing to witness because Tristan was never one to reveal his emotions in front of others. So seeing him k**s her or hold her hand, it was almost jarring and hard not to gawk at their displays of affection. But I loved how Sadie brought this side out of him.
‘I will tell you after breakfast. It’s almost hard to believe myself..and I was there!
She giggled into the link, making me smile even wider as I couldn’t help but feel complete happiness for my friend.
We all entered the elevator, that anxious feeling beginning to rise once more as Rowan pulled me into his side before whispering in my ear.
“It will be okay, after today we will contact the elders and present our findings. If he is the rogue king’s brother, he seems to have some type of plan and wants us to lower our guard. So I doubt he will attempt anything today.” Rowan encouraged me and I nodded my head before resting it against his chest.
This anxious feeling was making me want to crawl back into bed and cuddle up with my mate for the rest of the weekend. What was wrong with me?
Once we reached the first floor, Finn and Genevieve were already waiting for us in the lobby.
‘Mil, stay by my side the whole time okay?’
Blake linked me, he and Lottie would be watching over me while Rowan and Tristan would be “breaking up” the fight. We had to make it seem like Rowan didn’t have any clue Finn would do that and react how he would normally.
I glanced around the room, seeing people walking towards the event hall that we rented as the smell of bacon wafted toward us. I was starving..I felt like I hadn’t eaten in days even though we just had coffee and pastries. At least all this stress wasn’t affecting my appetite..
Rowan gripped my hand tightly, glancing over toward Finn who gave him a quick nod and proceeded to walk into the banquet hall.
Welcome Alpha Rowan, Luna Mila. A man in a black button-up shirt and slacks bowed his head to us as we entered. He must have been one of the servers but as soon as we passed him, something felt off. Like he didn’t have a scent or something..I swear he was a werewolf but he smelled human.
I eyed him carefully, unsure if anyone else noticed that as I glanced towards Sadie who seemed to stiffen as well.
‘Did that man seem unusual to you?’
I asked her, seeing the tight dip of her head as she focused her eyes forward.
The weird thing though was that no one else seemed to pick up on it but Sadie and I. Even Tristan was scanning the room for Alpha Ozzy I suspected. Maybe it was nothing..but I started thinking otherwise as every server in this place had the same scent.
‘Mila..something is wrong here.’
Sadie hastily linked, and before she could explain Alpha Ozzy and Chloe walked up towards us.
‘Baby, something doesn’t feel right.’
I relayed to Rowan, feeling his hand tighten around mine as his body tensed.
‘What is it? What’s wrong?’
He linked back hastily, his eyes searching mine as I swallowed hard.
“Alpha Rowan, Luna Mila, it’s wonderful to see you one last time before we have to leave.” Alpha Ozzy interjected, drawing our attention.
‘The servers.’
I hoped that was enough..I didn’t want Alpha Ozzy to see us linking because then he might get suspicious. Whatever this was..I had a feeling it had to do with him.
Sadie must have told Tristan as well because he was now checking the servers out while his eyes kept clouding over.
“Thank you for hosting this breakfast. I hope we can move forward from last night and continue to get to know one another.” Rowan said cooly, but I could feel the tension building inside of him.
“About that, I was wondering if I could speak with Luna Mila, I would like to apologize for my behavior.” Chloe spoke up, surprising everyone around us as Rowan and I exchanged a look. That was very hard to believe..Chloe apologizing? That made everything seem even more suspicious..
“I realize there has been some animosity between us and maybe it is time to put that behind us. If you would allow me to explain.” Her eyes met mine, the blue in them swirling with something I couldn’t quite decipher. What game was she playing? I had never seen her act this respectful or reasonable since the moment I met her.
‘What do you think?’
I whispered to Rowan, unsure of this whole thing.
‘Seems like some type of play to me.’
Rowan responded, voicing my concerns as I couldn’t agree more.
“Of course, you don’t have to go alone.” She blurted, glancing over towards Sadie who was scowling very openly at Chloe.
“I also wanted to speak with you Alpha Rowan, to discuss a few things business wise.” Alpha Ozzy interjected, his eyes landing on Rowan as he seemed slightly different today..like his aura was more reigned in and he didn’t feel as threatening as he did the past two days.
“I think we might have gotten off on the wrong foot and I would like to discuss this as well.” He added, making Rowan glance towards Tristan and Blake.
“Very well, Blake, Lottie, and Sadie will go with Chloe and Mila, I’m sure you understand how we might have trust issues. But Chloe, you are to not touch Mila in any way..if you do, I cannot be responsible for what my Gamma Sadie does to you. Do you understand?” Rowan’s voice was deep and serious, his threat coming across loud and clear as Chloe nodded her head vehemently.
‘This is our opportunity, Blake, Lottie, Sadie..you three stay with Mila. One weird look from Chloe and I want Mila away from her as far as possible. John and Dan, you guard the room they are in and Tristan you are with Finn and I.’
Rowan quickly linked our group as everyone agreed with the plan. Rowan bent down, his hand resting against my cheek as he searched my eyes carefully.
‘If any of those servers come into the room, you tell me right away. I don’t know what is going on with them but after we get the b***d sample, we are getting the hell out of here.’
He pressed his lips to mine, kissing me fiercely before pulling away and nodding.
“See you in a little bit baby.” Rowan whispered into my ear, causing me to smile softly as I reluctantly pulled away..something in me not wanting to be away from this man for one single minute. Something I always felt but right at this moment it was stronger than ever.
This was our only chance to get Ozzy’s DNA..I know we needed to go through with it so we can find out if what I feel is true. If Ozzy is the Rogue King’s brother, then what are his plans? Does he want to get revenge on Rowan for killing him?
The more I thought about it the more my mind was screaming to drag Rowan out of here. I can’t let anything happen to him again..
I paused, Making Sadie stop right next to me as I glanced back toward my mate.
‘Something doesn’t feel right.’
I linked her one last time, watching as Alpha Ozzy led Rowan to a table. It was the most subtle gesture..one that no one would notice if they weren’t looking for something suspicious but I saw it..I knew right at that moment we needed to get the hell out of here.
Alpha Ozzy nodded slightly to one of the servers, his eyes flashing black before they scanned the room, landing straight on me and that’s when the most wicked smile pulled at his lips..one that the Rogue King also used right before attacking me..
“Rowan!” I yelled out, drawing his gaze towards me as panic filled his expression. Before I could even move, a loud explosion trembled through the room, making my eyes widen in fear as realization dawned on me..this was all a setup and we walked right into his trap..goddess help us..
(Sadie)
The room began to spin as a high-pitched noise rang through my ears, causing everything to become muffled and rendering my senses completely useless. Glancing down, I noticed Mila below me, my eyes trying to focus on the woman who needed to be protected at all costs.
‘Sadie are you okay?!’
Tristan’s urgent words filled my mind, the clarity of his voice a stark contrast to what was going on around me that it caused me to jump from surprise.
‘I’m okay, where are you, are you okay?’
I began to panic..I could feel Tristan’s pain..I knew he was hurt and the urge to go to my mate was becoming unbearable..
‘We were close to the explosion, I am fine but I need to know if you are with Mila.’
Tristan asked urgently, making me glance down once more as I tried to recall exactly what just happened. One moment we were walking to the other room and the next I jumped over Mila, protecting her from the explosion that went off somewhere in the room.
‘Yes..she is right here and safe.’
I informed him, feeling relief flood through our bond.
“Rowan.” Mila g*****d, trying to move from below me as my eyes began to adjust to my surroundings.
That’s when two dark figures came into focus..two large wolves began stalking towards us. Their red eyes shimmered through the smoke and ash, settling right on Mila as they bared their teeth in a snarl. Rogues..it had to be those servers. f**k I should have known. They must have used some type of magic to mask their scents.
Without hesitation, I shifted, knowing I needed Savanah more than ever right this moment. Her determination to get to our mate was almost too overwhelming that I couldn’t hold her back any longer.
“Grab the Luna!” The voice of another unshifted man pierced through the air, causing the two rogues to charge forward. Before I could even react, Eris, Blake’s wolf zoomed past me, colliding into one of the wolves and taking it down without a single hesitation.
Glancing back I realized Mila had shifted and was now running through the crowd. Panic began to fill me as I watched someone chasing behind her..someone that I vowed to make their life a living hell from his day forward.
Chloe was right on Mila’s trail, her hand fishing into her purse for something as she came closer to where Calypso was.
I watched as Calypso tackled down a rogue, her movements elegant and precise as she clamped down, ripping the rogue neck open. I could tell all of our training had been paying off and felt a moment of pride for how amazing my friend and Luna was..but that quickly faded as I witnessed Chloe pull out a syringe and grip it in her trembling hand before lunging toward Calypso.
I sprung into action, racing across the room as Savanah tackled Chloe down, knocking the syringe out of her hand. Chloe’s eyes widened in shock as fear began to take over her body.
“P-p-please..it wasn’t my idea! He made me!” She cried out, making me growl and snap my jaw closer to her face, causing her to sob uncontrollably.
‘Take her into custody, we need to bring her back to Black Stone.’
I linked two of our warriors that had just run into the room and spotted me.
‘John, Dan, stay with our Luna no matter what.’
I commanded, earning a “Yes Gamma” in response. Luckily we were only affected by the aftershock of the explosives and were not directly hit by the blast itself.
I needed to take control of this situation. I don’t know where Tristan was but I could feel his presence not too far away.
Swiping my paw down, I hit it across a blubbering Chloe, tired of her bullshit, and knocked her out cold as the two unshifted warriors apprehended her and began dragging her off. I had plans for her later..
We needed to be careful, humans were all around this hotel so any movement outside of this banquet hall needed to be done in human form. Even though the hotel was most likely being evacuated as we speak, we still needed to be careful.
‘I can’t reach Rowan and Mila is losing it.’
Blake linked, making my eyes flash back towards Mila as I witnessed her taking down three large rogues at once. s**t, this wasn’t good. I have never seen her like this before.. I swear her green eyes were glowing and her body was pulsing with pure raw power..power unlike anything I had ever felt in my life. I knew right at that moment that the goddess in her was surfacing and the outcome could be catastrophic. She could kill every single person in here if she wanted..and she might just do that if she isn’t careful.
‘s**t, Genevieve is hurt bad, Lottie is trying to stop the bleeding. f**k!’
Blake cursed, making my heart clench as the chaos around us continued to unfold.
Another rogue charged at me, making me jump on his back and scratch down his side in one long motion. A loud yelp escaped him before I scratched down the other side until I felt him motionless beneath me and moved on.
‘Mila, you need to come back, there’s too many.’
I linked her, feeling her shut me out immediately as she closed the link altogether.
f**k, she wasn’t listening..this was not good.
‘Tristan, Where is Rowan?’
I linked Tristan, he was the only one who was with him from our pack when the explosion went off.
‘They f*****g took him..I am following the car now.’
Tristan responded with a g***n, I could tell he must have lost a lot of b***d because he sounded weak, and our connection was wavering.
‘Tristan..please, you need to heal.’
If he continued to push himself Hadeon won’t have enough strength to heal him.
I lept over a fallen table as I began weaving through rubble and debris that littered the floor.
I could tell Calypso was following Rowan’s scent as she lifted her head and locked her gaze on a door that led outside.
There was no sign of Alpha Ozzy or Rowan. Most of the Rogues were already slain and all that was left was those who had been injured and the people caring for them.
“Genevieve..wake up..you need to wake up.” Finn’s voice cut through the air, finally breaking Calypso out of her trance as her eyes shot towards Finn.
I raced over to them, Genevieve was pale and had a large gash through her stomach, the b***d pooling out as Finn tried his hardest to keep it in. His hand was placed over the wound, his eyes growing frantic as the realization set in that nothing would stop it. He looked around helplessly, unsure of what to do as Lottie held Genevieve’s hand and began to sob. Eris was close behind us as his teeth sank into another rogue’s neck, continuing to rid us of the threat as he too was out for b***d for what they had done.
We could hear Genevieve’s heart slowing by the second. Knowing she wasn’t going to live much longer as Finn gripped her limp body tightly against his chest. Suddenly Mila stepped through the smoke, she had shifted back and was now in human form.
She gently placed her hand on Finn’s shoulder, drawing his attention away from his mate as Mila lowered to her knees.
“It’s okay.” She whispered, her soothing and calm voice washing over all of us and seeming to stop Finn’s spiraling completely.
“Let me have her Finn.” Her voice was ethereal as she took Genevieve’s upper body into her own small arms.
Closing her eyes, a single tear spilled down her cheek before placing her hand above Genevieve’s stomach, making us all watch with bated breath.
No one could fully comprehend what was going on when a bright white light illuminated from Mila’s palm, confusing all those around her as we watched a miracle happening right before our eyes. Just like that very same day Rowan was brought back from the dead. No one could explain what happened..no one knew why or how..no one but me of course. Mila was capable of many things, things that she didn’t even know she could do.
Our eyes were glued to that wound that was no longer there. Then they rose in unison to Genevieve’s chest as a deep gasp of air filled her lungs, making it rise and fall steadily before Mila pulled her hand away and began to sway.
“She..she will be okay.” She spoke weakly, her eyes growing heavy as Finn looked down at his mate in disbelief.
“How..” he mumbled but was quickly cut off by Mila’s body going limp as she passed out right in front of our eyes. Blake had shifted mid-run and scooped her up in his arms, placing her close to his chest.
Finn did the same with Genevieve as he bent down, kissing her head and face. Relief seemed to floor through him as a loud bang sounded behind us. I was met with the sight of my bloodied mate, causing my heart to drop as Savanah stood. Ready to run to him..but before we could take a single step, Tristan spoke, and what he said caused my heart to drop.
“They took him..he’s gone.”
