The Luna's Alpha

Chapter 31

"And where the fuck did you get my DNA?" Cody fumes at my dad and Grandpappy. "Cody, we've been fighting with knives for weeks. I just saved a drop." Grandpappy tells him.

Cody throws his hands in the air. "You two are unbelievable. You had no right going behind my back like that. Willow is my daughter, you already fucking knew it the minute Tess and I mated, we were both brought into your pack." Dad leans against the front of his desk. "I knew it, but I wanted to make sure there was proof."

"You should've come to me. Asked me. I'm her father for fucks sake. You went behind my fucking back!"

"You're right, Cody. We're sorry, but it had to be done." Grandpappy answers.

"Had to be done? Willow was scared shitless. She never should've been brought in."

"She made the case, Cody. I had to make sure my daughter was safe." Dad answers.

Cody growls. "So you sacrifice my daughter. And that's bullshit, you don't know that she had anything to do with making the case! No one even suggested she's not my daughter. Tess told them the exact same fucking thing!" Dad looks at me. "Hey, leave me out of this. I'm on Cody's side. She's just a little girl and you exploited her to get your way unnecessarily."

"We did it to save your ass." My dad growls.

I shake my head in exasperation. "You don't get it do you, it's not about us, it's about using our daughter, your granddaughter. You used an innocent little five-year-old. Didn't you see how scared she was, she was shaking and almost in tears. She didn't need to be put through that. I don't care if it looked like I might not win. I still wouldn't have put her through that."

A knock sounds at the door and Leslie enters with Willow holding her hand. I glare at her for being in on this whole charade. I'm closest to the door so I squat down to pick my daughter up. "Hi, sweetie. Are you okay?" I ask then kiss her cheek.

"That was scary."

I lay her head on my shoulder and pat her back. "I know. I'm so sorry your grandpas did that to you."

Willow pulls back. "I wanted to help. Grandpappy said I was really brave."

I hold back a growl and smile at her instead. "You were very brave. But they should not have made you do that. That was no place for a sweet little girl like you."

I kiss her cheek again and Cody wraps his arms around us. "Hey, Sunshine. How would you like to go play at the lake? I think the three of us need a little break."

Willow squirms out of my hands. "I'm going to get my bathing suit." She says as she rushes up the stairs.

Cody takes my hand and leads me away from the office. "This conversation is not over." He warns before pulling me behind him up the steps.

It only takes me a minute to grab my bathing suit and head back downstairs. With a basket in hand, I load a picnic for us while Cody gets the towels and rubs sunscreen on Willow. I can tell he's still pretty pissed, but so am I. He takes my hand and the three of us head out.

The lake is fairly busy as it's a nice summer day. To avoid the crowd I head to my favorite hole. It's kind of a walk, but provides excellent rocks for jumping off of, and a little alcove to sit under. "This place is beautiful, Darlin'." "I'm glad you like it, but is it okay for Willow?" I wonder knowing she's only five.

"Of course. She's been swimming since she could walk."

We unload our items then all hold hands to jump in together. The water is perfect and so refreshing. Cody loves jumping off the rocks and starts doing some masterful flips and dives. I do a gainer into the water and Willow cheers. "Can I try, Mommy?"

"I think it would be easier to start with little things first." I tell her then start teaching her how to drive. Once she has that mastered we move on to a back dive. Willow is a natural and I think I'll start her tumbling during training on Monday. After a while, we settle down for lunch and messing around. I rub more sunscreen on Willow and Cody then we swim together some more. It's dark when we finish loading everything up and Willow falls asleep in the truck. Cody decides he's hungry again. I shake my head, but we get burgers and shakes. Willow stays awake long enough to eat a few bites of her burger then falls asleep with it still in her hand. I giggle as I pull the food from her lax grip. "She's sure tired." Cody chuckles. "Yeah. I think she had a fun day." Cody clears his throat then speaks. "A while ago, Willow made a comment about a baby brother. We've never discussed it before, but are you interested in having kids?" My smile spreads across my face. "Of course, I would like more. I love Willow, and I think she would be the best big sister. Though among werewolves they're called pups or tots. Like Willow is a tot, but that's just her age group." "Pup." He tries to get the feel of the word by saying it to himself a few times. "Why are they not just called kids?"

I kind of giggle. "You can call them kids. I just thought you should know in case you hear others refer to them as pups. Regardless, I would love to carry your children, Cody."

He takes my hand and gives it a squeeze. "You know, since I met you, I've been so happy. My life has become perfect."

"Same for me, Big guy. Although I did kind of put our life in danger." I admit as I hang my head.

"I wasn't the one on trial." He reminds me. I lay my head against his shoulder and hum in perfect tranquility. Our lives really are perfect.

"Tess. Wake up." Cody brushes his hand down my face and I open my eyes. I didn't even realize I had fallen asleep. Stifling a yawn, I look around to see we're home. Cody softly smiles then gives me a soft kiss. "Can you get the basket, I'll get Willow and the bag?"

"Yes, of course." After unloading, we take Willow to her room.

"We'll shower in the morning, it's too late to wake Willow anyway." He whispers.

"Agreed."

Cody holds my hand as we move through the hallway, but my dad is there waiting for us. "Not now Micco. It's late and I need to get these girls to bed."

"I just wanted to apologize. You're right, Cody, we should have asked. I'm just used to having things done my way, especially when it comes to protecting my daughter. If anyone tried to pull that stunt with her, I would rip their throat out. I love Willow and I never meant her any harm. I'm sorry for my part."

Cody nods but doesn't say anything. I give my dad a kiss on the cheek then we walk around him to lay Willow down in her bed. I quickly change her into a large t-shirt then we sneak away. My dad has left the hall so Cody picks me up and carries me to our room where I slip into one of his t-shirts and we call it a night.

It's our day off of school, but Cody and I still wake early for training. Holt is waiting for us in the back yard and joins us on our run while Val is inside with Willow.

Dad is in the corral wearing his fighting shorts when we get back. Cody has become excellent at fighting with knives against a wolf, so now my dad wants him to fight two at a time. Cody always has his pocket knife on him, but now he carries a set of Karambits. He started using them because the kunai were too small for his hand and they're more of a throwing knife. A Karambit kind of resembles a wolf claw so Donny thought it would make sense to use it against wolves. I was able to get him a set made with Wolfsbane, but he uses a safer set while practicing new moves, like today.

"Fighting multiple partners takes complete focus and control. You have to know what both opponents are doing, where they are, and any combinations they are going to use before they use them." I tell Cody. Dad and Holt are in their wolves ready to go.

"Not to mention you have to watch your front and back at the same time." A new voice says and I look over my shoulder.

"Councilman Lancaster." I greet. Cody steps closer to say hello to him, Jared Hudson, and Grandpappy. "Jared." I greet him with a smile "Uriah, please. Holt told me I would find him here. He said he's been training with his human friend under the skilled eye of the Dentons. He wanted to show off to his granddad. I hope you don't mind an audience, Cody?"

"Not at all. Holt has been most helpful, but we still have a lot to learn. I've never fought off two wolves, so I hope you're not bored." Cody responds as he adjusts his gloves.

"I was told you're quite promising as the next Alpha. I'm impressed. Not many humans can take on a werewolf, especially in their wolf form." He comments.

Jared nods. "Cody is an impressive young man. He was a great husband to my daughter and he's an excellent father to my granddaughter. His fighting skills were quite advanced when I last saw him. I'm interested to know how much he's improved." He praises. Cody tries not to show his bashfulness, but I feel it through our bond.

Holt's wolf gives a soft growl. "Well, by all means," Uriah says to Holt. Cody steps back into the circle and begins working. Grandpappy makes a few comments here and there, but otherwise, the older men leave the training to me. Dad and Holt move slow at first, but once they're used to working together, their speed and skill increases, causing Cody to work that much faster.

Cody is focusing on my dad, Holt takes the opening and gets him from behind, knocking him to the ground. Cody quickly recovers with a slice to Holt's side. "Son of a bitch!" He cries out as soon as he shifts and gets to his feet. Blood is dripping all down his leg.

"Sorry man. Are you alright?" Cody asks as he grabs a gauze pad. We're used to cuts and gashes every now and then, but this looks like a pretty bad cut. "Yeah, I'll be alright, it just stings a bit. You went a little deeper than I thought you would." Holt hisses at the applied pressure.

"Cody knows not to hold back. That was a good move, Cody. Just because you're down, doesn't mean you stop fighting." Grandpappy says as he watches on.

Cody dresses Holt's wound. "It's a good thing I'm only using my training blades or this would take a week to heal."

"That's what he gets for getting cocky," Uriah comments. "You are much improved, boy. Your dad will be glad to know you've come into your own."

"Thanks, Granddad."

"Cody, I think it's time to join the guards in the weekly training sessions." My dad says as he pulls his fighting shorts back on. "We run two a day to accommodate the different shifts. Guards have a mandatory three days of training, three days of guarding, and one day off. Since you're working at the school, I'm not going to be as strict. One day a week with the guards for now."

"Yes, sir."
